note that graphic is also pretty old. at the time it came out, kendrick didn't have enough material to meet the threshold for inclusion (first 35k words, or ~3-5 albums)

Just another example of Inforoo spreading misinformation
I liked Aesop Rock a lot back in my college days. I remember listening to his stuff a lot to prep for Bonnaroo 2007, but ended up skipping him for STS9. Did see some of El-P before DJ Shadow though. Coffee was my jam. The video was kinda cool too.
generally we didn't include rappers who are primarily part of groups. beasties etc. only included the creamy crew guys for fun. because One Take Jake is a legend on the mic and should've won and i included the other two so they wouldn't feel bad.

To be honest that rap vocabulary thing never really sat right with me. It’s an interesting thought experiment and I can certainly appreciate verbosity for its own sake but the idea but when I’m listening to rap I don’t always care if someone’s giving their thesaurus a workout or not.
Like, some of my favorite rock songwriters use a metric fuckload of words (Ezra Koenig, Craig Finn, Molly Rankin etc) but sometimes I just want to blast AC/DC or Japandroids you know?

You could probably use it to say "being at X number makes it more likely that you are an interesting lyricist." It's one of the last things I would look at to determine how good a rapper is though.

there’s also a certain point that if you go too far it’s like they’re jacking themselves off though

Yeah I was careful with my wording there. Meaning to point out that being at a minimum benchmark number probably makes it more likely you are an interesting lyricist. Lets say like 3800. But once you reach a certain number, anything after that doesn't seem indicative of how good of a lyricist you are. Other than that it's kind of interesting to see who has a big vocabulary.

it takes all kinds, i exclusively choose what music i listen to based on number of unique words used. everyone is so busy these days, who has time for low-verbosity singing?

Yeah, my apparently no-talent, no-vocabulary-having rap ass had to look it up. Then I'm like why the fuck did he work that word into the song
How does Slug have more votes than Fred Durst. Do people know what they're voting for? Wes Borland is the best part of Limp Bizkit. Fred Durst is not a good rapper.
