thank you again T3ddy F1a1r for the idea and thank all of you for participating in White Rapper Survivor. it's been a nice balance between absurdity and substantive discussion.
seems fairly certain El-P will win this, but my vote goes to Eminem because he just holds a larger place in my mind. El-P has had a better career, creatively, and has been a more consistent part of my pop culture life, from Company Flow all the way to Run The Jewels, but Eminem's highs have had a bigger impact on me overall.
I shudder to think if Radiohead was an option though.
if you think about it the opening track off of "In Rainbows", the greatest album of all time, is kind of like the first really good rap song ever recorded. all respect to the artists that recorded raps and beats before 2007, but all of that was basically just a precursor to when Radiohead released "15 Step" on the world, equal parts club banger and cerebral glitch beat, with Thom Yorke's inimitable flow showing his dominance on the mic
Honestly... either could win - Eminem has more bangers, El-P has more artistic and consistent albums. I'm on the fence because as said above the Em highs are big - but the lows are damn near tragic (one of the few What Stage shows I left after 20 mins). But also how many times can I listen to RTJ really? It is good that we picked two people who also produce a lot of their records. So

Over the weekend I listened to almost every EL-P produced album because of this survivor. What a great career. I said it before: If the wording was “favorite rap artist” I would heavily consider EL-P. “Favorite rapper” makes me want to weigh in the quality of their rapping more and to consider other aspects of a rappers artistry less.
That said, EL-P is a great rapper on Funcrusher Plus, Fantastic Damage, I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead and Run the Jewels 3. On the other 3 RTJ albums I think he hovers around “pretty good.” Cancer 4 Cure hes pretty average but i need to listen again.
This is kind of an obvious statement but the line that jumped out at me most all weekend was, “even when I say nothing, its still a beautiful use of negative space.”
I might do a bigger post on his production discog in the hiphop thread.
All that said, the way Em was rapping in his prime was absolutely worth wondering if it was nearing “greatest ever” stuff. If you were to think about if you subbed in El P on MMLP instead of eminem it would be an embarrassing loss in quality. Sticking with Em here.
Last contribution before the results is Weird Al representing YT rappers everywhere. Starting off with “I like small butts and I cannot lie. You honeys can’t deny it can’t miss. It’s also probably his funniest song

Should automatically win on the strength of "Amish Paradise" and "White & Nerdy" alone.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

I bitched in an early round that we left Harry Mack off. But there’s nobody at his freestyle level. I’ve been watching some of the guerrilla bars series he has on YouTube. He’ll walk up to a group of people on the street and ask to freestyle for them. Catch is they have to supply some random words for him to work in which he always does. And he’ll shout out others in the crowd while he’s doing it. Music. Comedy, street rap, whatever. People that can improv on the spot always amazes me.
I know it’s been around a while but here are some of the dozens…
