What albums did you try? Their sound ranges greatly between the first two albums, the 80's hits, and the later stuff.
I'll make a movie to Elliot, Schitt's creek is definitely his best role, but he's mainly just in stuff to be a weirdo creep. also of the SNL Chrises he's definitely the least memorable.
