Not to beat a dead horse here, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare 2017 to 2025 as the booking environment is dramatically different.
The reality is there would be so much less relative budget left over (vs. 2017) to book acts if they had someone like Paul playing in 2025.
Obviously I would love it if they booked Paul, but we need to reframe our expectations for these sort of bookings as Roo does not have the same flexibility to book these type of artists as they once did.
Roo went from being one of the big three 10yrs ago to now probably being below Lolla, ACL, Coachella, and OSL in terms of lineup strength/uniqueness.
I think we have to be a little realistic that this is kind of one downside of being just one part of a big corporate umbrella. When Roo was AC and Superfly, it was kind of the crown jewel of the portfolio. But now that Roo is just one of many, it doesn't necessarily get that same type of priority.
But it's a pro and con situation. If Roo was still only an AC and Superfly property, it most likely would not have survived the pandemic.
There was a moment where we almost said something about it on the podcast this week, but we had to stop ourselves since it's not really "safe" to hint at or leak just yet. II feel like it'll be pretty awesome for a lot of people, maybe just a little divisive for a few.
I've got Cory and Brad confirmed to be on the Roo Bus podcast in the coming weeks. It might be Monday, it might be the week after next, we're just waiting to get a few things figured out.
I let the What Podcast cover the music business / back of house stuff since Barry knows that way better than I do, but if you've got any questions about things from a campground / front of house / attendee perspective, let me know and I'll make a list of things to pass along.
Don't know if y'all have recorded this yet, but last year's survey contained some bigger questions about ways they could change the festival (moving to two weekends, direction of bookings in the future, adding/subtracting a day, etc). It would be great to hear if there were any takeaways, or things they're considering based off of that.
I think the issue with artists being more expensive is that they know they can do their own tours, while offering platinum seating for all 20+ shows. Why travel 60 miles outside of Nashville to perform on a farm in the middle of nowhere, when you can do a whole tour and make stupid money on the greed of TM and LN? Artists have no real reason to play festivals anymore if they don’t want to.

How do the other LN festivals consistently book better lineups? If it’s because they blow all the budget in other shit then just cut the Outeroo stuff.

Will take fifth best lineup in the country if it’s both far and away the highest attended and best lineup for a camping festival. It also helps that with some changes it could very reasonably go back to being the second best lineup on the country.
Come see King Gizzard for 60 minutes and Vampire Weekend for 75 minutes but stay for Luke Combs. The magic of the farm is alive and well lol
Feels like multiple sets or a marathon set is in play. Give Gizz the MMJ late night spot, let em do 3 hours.
Nah. They gave them 75 min in a tent last time. I just don’t see roo booking a marathon set. It’d be cool but roo doesn’t seem to be that cool these days. But 3 hour marathon late night would be a huge get and possibly get me back to the farm for one last shindig
To the point of Roo isn't booking big acts, I think we forget that they tried and almost got Talking Heads which would change how we view modern Roo even if it was a LN package deal. As for Luke, despite you maybe not liking him, for Roo to book a man who can sell out residencies at FOOTBALL stadiums for Thursday is nuts. We talk about getting Gaga etc, but within genre this man is among the 3 biggest at the moment.

he's really bad
Not saying he is or isn't. I don't enjoy Phish, but they can get people to Roo.
Upcoming Shows: 11/8 - Goose @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 11/13 - Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w/ The Wolfpack & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall 2/14 - Alan Walker @ The Fillmore Detroit 4/15 - Ben Folds w/ The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall
Imo if they can sell a ton of day one Thurs tickets for Combs and then some of that crowd stays for the weekend thats a huge win for Roo. That's how you build new fans.
