this is the first year since i first started going in 2013 that i won’t be able to go to bonnaroo because one of my best pals is getting married and i’m djing his wedding on top of that. anyone have tips on coping with missing out on your favorite thing for the first time? i think i’m just going to watch phish and goose more
I’ve watched a few of my favorite festivals get killed off over the years and even then, it’s not easy just knowing they don’t exist. Knowing it exists and not being able to go is a conundrum but it’s ok. I don’t focus on a lot of negativity in my life but I remind myself what I hated about Bonnaroo when the lineup drops so I won’t get too upset. Everyone has different things they hate so I won’t digress. You’re with your friends on one of the most important days of their lives. That’s kinda what Bonnaroo is supposed to be, imo. Be happy just watching them be happy.
This really is one of the funniest videos. I think we’ve had this conversation before like a year ago. Danzig sucks as a person. He’s a clown but I love The Misfits.
yeah, the Dez era is okay. I absolutely boycotted Danzig legacy in 2012. I hate that fucking guy - samhain, danzig, misfits, etc.
Danzig legacy set in 2012 was pretty fun. But Bad Brains stole the show that day.

Go to a different fest
it seems like there aren’t that many that are similar to bonnaroo with the camping and campground programming and late night and whatnot. the new version of summer camp isn’t too far from me and seems similar and e forest sounds fun but i’m just not a big enough edm fan to really want to go. i’ll be happy wherever i find myself

You can probably still watch the parts of the sets they stream on Hulu or whomever they are going with next year. Also you can read the thread and keep up with the Jones's while you are indeed jonsing.
I haven't gone since 2017 and I love following you all on here. It's a lot of FOMO but still really enjoyable to me.

I’ll definitely do both of these. i’ll miss catching you man
At this point would people be more disappointed if QOTSA or VW wasn’t on the poster?
I’d say VW for me. I’ve never gotten into QOTSA, and I had tickets to the Asheville VW show which got canceled due to Helen
I'm the opposite. I really don't like Vampire Weekend who I watched for a few minutes and thought was wimpy. I also once saw Queens, and it was pretty rocking though circumstances were sucking balls which is too long of a story but I'd see them again whereas I wouldn't see Vampire Weekend

this is good advice and perspective i really appreciate this. may your schedule not have any conflicts

Yeah, the camping and immersive element are definitely unique about Roo and hard to replicate. You're right there. I started doing smaller city fests after I quit doing Roo, then ACL again, then COVID happened, then I fell in love with Primavera, which won't help you this year, but there's different ways to scratch the itch. Like Cincy said, e Forest is probably the best comparison or camping at Coachella

Hulaween sounds like the closest substitute for what you are looking for.

this is what I did in '21 when fall roo got hurricaned

yeah, we did have that conversation. I think I told you, but I hadn't slammed/moshed in a couple of decades. But the guys I was with knew the history of me doing handstands and cartwheels across pits to piss off violent people. I took the dare, emptied my pockets and hit the circle with a handstand knocking some pissed off chick's hat who would have punched me but instead shook her head when she saw it was my feet. haha. That was a good day. But we saw Bad Brains again in Pensacola Beach that September or October and HR had aged another 10 years in those few months. Dr. Know still ruled, but they were better at Bonnaroo. /iagainstiagainstiagainsti
Shit. I found the schedule. I think that was the night Spectrum Road played which was my favorite set of the weekend besides Phish double set close on Sunday. Bad Brains > Flogging Molly > Puscifer > The Roots (somehow missed Dispatch) > Red Hot Chili Peppers > Spectrum Road > Skrillex > GZA & Grupo Fantasma. Yeah I loved that day outside of the Red Hots who were whatever.

Same. But I don't think we ever crossed paths this past year. Maybe we did briefly? I remember the year before we finally ran into each other at Umphrey's Sunday afternoon.
No bro I buy my tickets from cash-strapped drug addicts two weeks before the festival. And we just voted for an administration that’s sure to make the poor poorer.

yeah i didn’t see you last year but had the couple years before

I too also used to do cartwheels across pits decades ago hahaha!!!! Last pit I was in was No Redeeming Social Value around Christmas time last year. My neck was F’ed up for months.
Also 2012 was definitely one of my favorite Roo’s. I look up that lineup from time to time. We were spoiled back in the day.
I love GA but I am old (30) now and the shade and unlimited showers are worth it lol plus a ten minute walk to centeroo saved me money on beer and food!
