So if bino is really out (i'm not giving up hope) then what other rap acts could headline? It feels like there aren't many options out there, maybe eminem and tyler, but I can't think of many other rappers being big or relevant enough to headline in 2025.

The owl said there was a very real chance there is no rap headliner
Rufus seems like the logical/safe choice if they're going to continue the Thursday headliner trend. Wouldn't be smart to experiment too soon if they saw 2024 as a succes (which I think it was).
Regarding big EDM bookings that are too big for The Other, I think only Skrillex or Deadmau5 are big enough to play What/Which. I fail to come up with other artists that they would realistically book.
JUSTICE’s new tour set up would make for a perfect Thursday Headliner booking

No rap headliner would be pretty disappointing since last year also didn't really have one (unless you consider posty rap, but i think of him more of pop), but i guess there just might not be many good options out there rn.
If Gambino is out the only other rap headliner I want is Tyler The Creator. Who else could do it, Drake or Travis? I really don’t like either of them. Would love a legacy rap headliner like Dr. Dre or bring Jay-Z back. It’s been long enough. No Eminem please. I don’t wanna listen to him rap about cancel culture.
EDIT: Would also love Missy Elliott. But could she headline? Probably not. Give her a late night Which spot.
I'm thinking in place of a rap headliner next year we will get the first female pop star to ever headline bonnaroo. As for who it will just depend on who is hot next year with new material. Owl said that EDM was the biggest request by a lot so I am sure they will keep giving us an EDM headliner. Third will be an actual band with guitars of some genre or another. I'm thinking Blink 182 but would love to be surprised with something non-obvious.

does it kind of feel like hip-hop is on a bit of a downturn in terms of popularity? weird to say because it feels like it's been the dominant popular music genre going on, shit, twenty years?
not saying it's taking a significant dive like rock music did in the late 00s, but if you made me rank the big broad genres in terms of popularity, i'd probably put hip-hop behind pop and country at this point.

Yeah I'm fine to miss eminem, travis and drake. Tyler would be a fun show, but I think he is still touring his old Call me if you get lost show that he's been doing for like 3 years. Jay or Missy would both be cool but I don't know if they have enough headliner pull for the gen z's
TV On The Radio are teasing something. Maybe a new album and tour. They’d fit the early 2000s indie rock slot nicely the last couple of years like Franz Ferdinand in 2023 and Interpol in 2024
It's like we speak their name and they IG tease/post. 😍❤️

I think it probably depends on what your metric is. I don't think rap has ever really been a touring ticket mover like other genres but streaming wise I feel like it's as big as it's ever been.

unfortunately yes, i think it’s gotten oversaturated with artists that blow up quickly then have no idea how to consistently put out GOOD music and preform. rap / hip hop has a ton of mid and lower card names rn but there hasn’t been a huge headliner name come into play recently
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

To me it feels like rap is more compartmentalized than ever, where there can be lots of successful rappers with their established fanbases on spotify/soundcloud/youtube, but they never are able to to grow their audience or appeal. So we get lots of hit singles, but very few rappers able to build the popularity and fame to become festival headliners. We're still looking at the same limited pool of rap headliners in 2025 that we could've projected back in 2019 or earlier.

yeah, and this might just be my perspective, but it feels like the way pop artists or country artists absolutely explode in popularity now is how it was with hip-hop artists 10-15 years ago. like i feel like one day i woke up and Drake was the biggest artist in the world, same thing with Future and Kendrick Lamar. in more recent years i've had that experience with Olivia Rodrigo, or Zach Bryan, or Chappell Roan. just seems like pop or country is making more big stars than hip-hop, even if hip-hop is clearly still a popular genre.
not saying any of those artists i named were over night successes, just speaking about how quickly they become huge. going back pre-2005 that happened more with rock acts. i guess it's like if i wanted to become a huge mega music star today what genre would i go into? i'd probably be a country guy, more likely for me to be the next chris stapleton rather than the next jack harlow, even if i look more like jack harlow.
