Still trying to keep this semi-updated, even though we are mere DAYS away from the drop
Lineup out in June per an email response from the festival. I guess someone who is autistic and has been fretting/losing sleep over when the lineup is releasing emailed Riot and got this response.
I'm all for diversity and inclusion, but there has to be other coping mechanisms for things out of your control, even for those with some level of neurodiversity. I sympathize, but this guy basically weaponized autism against some poor social media intern.

Wait till you find out people from this board used to email booking agents posing as pregnant women to find out if specific bands were booked for Bonnaroo.

….what?
Years and years ago but still. The gist was “I’m broke but wanna see xx REALLY FUCKING BAD. Are they playing?”
Also IIRC the gist of the emails was also “we’re deciding between traveling between xxx festival and Bonnaroo but the pregnancy is going to make that hard. Are [xyz artists] playing Bonnaroo?” There was never really any pressure for anyone to respond; a lot of managers were just readily willing to give up that information. A simpler time! That email is a lot different and I agree is way more uncomfortable.
And reading back through that, it’s more just that everyone was willing to email managers, fake pregnancy or not. We took all that energy and put it into making realistic Coachella a posters lol.

Well, I mean there could never be any pressure. It was a yes or no lol
And agreed on the differences in the email subject matter but that one was one I remember in particular.

Exactly, I wanted to add on the story because *that’s* what made it so perfect - sympathetic and urgent at the same time.
Remember everyone don’t do this even though it was really brilliant and awesome.

Gwen Stefani instead of No Doubt," Sublime" and The Sex Pistols with Frank Carter. That tracks.
I can't see why Riot Fest would want to book No Doubt again seeing as how they get them on the last reunion tour, but is it some big loss if it's just Gwen? I don't remember Tony Kanal being Yngwie Malmsteen.

I mention Gwen because it would just be a sight to see if Riot had booked her 6+ months ago without one inkling of No Doubt being possible at the time. She is a perfectly capable solo performer and its 90% ND songs during her shows. But really, itll probably just happen next year when they just go get their bag from a Tragic Kingdom 30 tour. Not as if Riot hasnt had repeat headliners before. Lots of time has passed and theres plenty of people who didnt see them in 2015 anyway.
Last year, The Cure was our surprise (not leaked) third headliner. In hindsight, it made sense: they had a single, sold out show at the United Center, where every other major city had at least 2 shows. It was also in late spring (June 10th), having plenty of time between it and RF in late summer.
I'm starting to think this year's surprise third headliner is/was Neil Young. When it was announced his Chicago stop was at Northly Island, my initial thought was that seemed... small? But now it kinda lines up with what happened with The Cure, down to the show being in the spring (May 23rd). HOWEVER, the event was CANCELLED for health reasons (I think?) and now negotiations have to be revisited. Maybe there was something about a solo Chicago show needing to happen before a fest appearance in the contract? IDK how any of that works.
Anyways, I'll take off the tin foil hat for now. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

The Neil Young show was only postponed, not cancelled, and no ticket refunds have been offered yet. I don’t think it’s him, and if it is him that’s an insanely shitty thing of him to do.
