actually this helped me realize a problem with the way I was trying to schedule (read: staring at my Clashfinder like an idiot for an hour) acts for a mock: there actually more artists per day than there were last year! Anyway, I really hope there's not a Go-Go's/Missy conflict 😭😭
I can't have the Prodigy or Go-Go's conflicting with Missy. Parcels I can live with. FKA I don't have a damn clue, it's gonna be a shitshow
Currently I have twigs closing outdoor between Missy/Gaga since Coachella loves an "R&B" closer and Marías make a lot of sense for a sunset slot
the Sunday electronic run will feed families if they do it right Kraftwerk on Outdoor around sunset, Basement Jaxx in Mojave at 8, Virji in Sahara 930-1020, Chase & Status closing Mojave

Pretty fun lineup! As an old guy, id enjoy 2/3 headliners and plenty of bucket list acts like prodigy, kraftwerk, gogo’s, Green Day, misfits, etc. I live in San Diego so not too far, not sure if I’ll snag a ticket or not but I don’t hate this

As an oldhead #hipster thats been going since 2008 (with a gap in the late 2010s) I quite enjoy this lineup thoroughly. I just need maybe only one headliner and then a deep undercard mixed with old and new. It pretty much checks all the boxes and checks them well imho. Do your research xoxo
here are some of my less obvious undercard recs just based on what I already know
Friday: Glixen (very good new shoegaze), HiTech (extremely hype detroit ghettotech), TOPS (lush jazzy indie rock/pop), SPEED (good ol fashioned hardcore complete with karate jumpkicks, flute, and POSITIVE VIBES), julie (another great new shoegaze band that sounds like early MBV/sonic youth), add in vs self, kneecap, and the legendary Suen Kuti and you got a crazy set of bottom lines there.
Saturday: actually light on the kind of bands I was just talking about (pre-research) but we got Beth Gibbons, Blonde Redhead, Japanese Breakfast, Jimmy Eat World, Darkside, and the LA Phil just holding those middle lines down so well. Shout out Infected Mushroom tho lmao.
Sunday back to bottom line gold: Kumo 99 (obsessed with this ravey punk duo think like Trance Hardcore Crystal Castles), GEL (another standout nasty hardcore band with cult starpower), wisp (the queen of nu-gaze), and ya got both Snow Strippers and Fcukers for some more high level weirdo indie sleaze.
really just skimming the surface too
lots to love here top to bottom
Charli, Gaga, Missy, XG, JENNIE, LISA, Tyla, Amaarae, twigs, Arca for the weirdo alt-gays is very fun to chew on as well
Not enough? oh they got Kraftwerk, Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, the mfin Go-Go's and the og Misfits
Embarrassingly long time lurker chiming in to see if anyone can speak to the value of VIP. My friends are leaning toward it and I wanna know if it's worth the price bump (or what your experience was like in general).
And for my two cents, I have a gut feeling Charli would be fine passing on a sunset main stage set if it meant she could have a longer nighttime set commanding Sahara.
Zedd seems really overbilled at 3rd on his day. Yeah he's one of those legacy big-room era acts that always pull a crowd, but I don't know if I've seen an artist in his lane drop a dud as big as his album this year. It came out nearly 3 months ago and there isn't a single track on it that has broken 10 million streams on Spotify. Obviously people are still gonna show up for his older stuff, but that is a crazy lack of even any curiosity about his big comeback release. He's basically done nothing that literally anyone is interested in since the music he's played (often) for the last 7 years, and (correct me if I'm wrong) it doesn't feel like it's the sort of stuff that has continued to catch on with younger generations. There's no way he's gonna draw hype or crowds the way that the John Summits or Fishers do, and they were middle/second half of the top line.
All this to say, I can see him being shoved into the Sahara, especially if all his booking sway was spent getting him that high up on the poster
Yeah it’s just seems boring. Hasn’t he been there like 4 or 5 times in the past decade? Why couldn’t they go after Kaskade and/or Deadmau5 or something. I like the Above and Beyond booking because at least they haven’t played before(or at least recently)
Zedd just feels like their usual, safe DJSnake type booking. Except at least Snake was in the Sahara and didn’t take up valuable Outdoor/Main Stage set times like Zedd will.
Look last year we had bebe fucking rexha on the main stage in this same slot, I hate Zedd but still an upgrade

So you think parcels in the Mojave?
Currently yes during Missy/twigs, but I also have Chris Stussy twice on my mock so I'll need some time to flesh out a couple ideas. (hopefully by the end of tonight though. ironically may need more beer to focus, I've been listening to too much of the Go-Go's for the past 45 minutes)

Agree on Charli, closing Sahara >>>> third on Main for the day, and Brat commands a nighttime performance.
On VIP (despite never having gone), from what I've heard it depends. You don't get any special viewing experiences (there is an area at Main, but they aren't the optimal spots like Guest/Artist, which is the beauty of Coachella and how much of a value play GA is), but you get access to better food (although GA food is more than good enough), more bars, A/C bathrooms, and a lot of seating and shaded spaces. They're adding new areas with said things to Sahara and Outdoor this year, so there is more value in it this year, but largely VIP to me seems like a channel to get you to spend more money (those better food options and extra bars aren't free) and is a good option for older attendees (like mid-30's up) with more disposable income who want a more comfortable experience. This year there will be VIP (non-viewing) areas at Main, Outdoor, and Sahara alongside the Rose Garden, with IIRC a VIP viewing area at Main.
Oh wait and I forgot the short express line into Yuma. If you spend a lot of time there then it might be worth.

Previously, VIP was 100% not worth it in my opinion unless you're really into the Yuma (has a dedicated line). This year, they have 2 new VIP areas, so hard to say if that would add enough value - IMO probably not.
Mostly what you're paying for is nicer bathrooms, better food options, and some areas to escape the crowd. In the past, there's no close to the stage dedicated VIP viewing areas, just one off to the side of main stage.
realizing now I skipped Together Pangea at a college show I attended 10 years ago. If only I had known the lineup then, I could've avoided this perilous conflict now.

Yeah from the email it doesn't seem like they're adding viewing areas to Outdoor/Sahara, just food/alc/bathrooms, so definitely not worth.

Thanks both, appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately might be something I'm backed into if I want to go with this group. I haven't felt like I've missed out on anything when I've gone GA but luckily this is a lineup I'd personally pay a premium for
Finally went through the lineup and even at first pass this is stacked with names I’ve never had the chance to see. Acts I would check out with no research
Friday: Lady Gaga, Missy Elliot, The Maria’s, The Prodigy, Parcels, FKA Twigs, Mustard, YEAT, The Go Gos, Djo, Thee Sacred Souls, Three Six Mafia
Saturday: Green Day, Travis Scott, Charli XCX, The Misfits, Above & Beyond, Clairo, Beth Gibbons, Darkside, Gustavo Dudamel, Jimmy Eat World, Glass Beam, The Dare

Regardless it'll still be a good time, just enjoy the luxuries if you end up doing it :P
How the f were Fontaines DC, Royel Otis, Confidence Man, Kelly Lee Owens, Pretty Girl, Caribou, MK.gee, Coco & Clair Clair, Magdalena Bay, and Joy Orbison not booked ?
Pretty Girl not big enough yet. I thought Barry Can't Swim should have made 2023 and then he popped up on 2024 and it was like "no this is the moment" and I feel like this is kind of the same. I saw her at portola, she fucking killed it, but she didn't have the buzz that all the Portola acts that did make it on here had and the crowd was not that big. One more year and she'll have the momentum for Coach.
