By all accounts Coachella is selling well this year - is this really going to move the needle much further? I guess it doesnt hurt to try, but it looks pretty silly.
To be fair, they’ve been constantly building steam for a while now and I knew they were bigger outside of the states. Their only headlining show in the US last year was at red rocks and it sold out fast. I thought they were a couple nights at a theater big though, not arenas. Polo & Pan was the billing that shocked me the most. I saw both acts at a 400 person venue in 2019 and neither was sold out.
Polo & Pan were the sub before Eric Prydz at Portola '23 - billed in the same spot as Labrinth that year - and their crowd was massive. I only walked by it, they are not really my thing, but this might be more of a "they are really huge for our core fanbase" type billing but after Portola I was expecting second line for them for the next time they were going to play Coachella.

Yeah but by the end of 2019 they were headlining the Novo. Then in 2022, they started the year by headlining the Shrine and by the end of that summer they were headlining the Hollywood Bowl, and then subbed at Portola and Crssed last year. I didn't expect them on the lineup, but the second line billing wasn't too shocking. They've been on a consistent upward trajectory since their 2019 Mojave set.
What side of Outdoor and Sahara will the new VIP sections be on we thinking?
I'm assuming the Outdoor Section will be near the market/an extension of it, and Sahara will probably be an extension of the existing food/bathroom area (hoping it doesn't cut into the hill though, I'll kill them) or it might be where the first aid and water station were and be up near where Quasar is separated off

Yeah I could see the Outdoor Section being where the Nike Pop Up was this year to the left (facing the stage) that area tends to always be less crowded. In 2019 that's also where they had the Cup Cake Vineyards. And i am with you....please for the love of god...don't fuck with the hill...that is seriously one of the best additions to the venue

They can just convert the beer garden area to vip since theres no need to enforce anyway. But you just eliminate the eating area for people in general.
ACDC tour announced and they’re playing rose bowl around chella dates. Would be an absolute dream if they were a surprise act the first weekend but I doubt, at their age, they care to add extra dates in their rigid schedule of 1 show every four days.
Would be a huge bucket list act especially since they’re not coming to my city on this one

wasn't it the gobi? crazy trajectory
Yep, it was definitely Gobi. As was Khuarangbin that year who also has seen a similar rise to outdoor slotting.
I think I'm just super biased because I caught both in Gobi, but the magic of both anywhere else feels unachievable.
That LiB lineup is fucking amazing for me personally. Everything on it though that I'd want to see I've either seen the past two Portolas or I will see at Coachella this year, but if I was going I would have a blast.
Quick Q - am I correct in remembering that GV now has more input/ownership of Do Lab/LiB or am I pulling that out of my ass? There is a lot of Coachella/Portola overlap on that poster - know some of the smaller names will likely end up on the Do Lab, but trying really fucking hard to manifest Jamie xx and/or Four Tet for Quasar.
Looks like Eric Prydz is gearing up to play Dreamstate SF the weekend before Coachella W1. My #1 DJ, and I promised my financial planner (lmao) I would go with him to the next Dreamstate SF. At 37 I am feeling extremely intimidated by the thought of doing two back to back festivals lmao.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
What side of Outdoor and Sahara will the new VIP sections be on we thinking?
I am guessing that they are going to be connected to the guest pit entrances and with access from the behind the scenes road, just like it is at the main stage. So, assuming that no guest entrances will be moved, the outdoor is likely to be an extension or an annexation of the beer garden between main and outdoor, as the outdoor entrance is right at the exit of the GA beer garden. For the Sahara, the entrance is at the far left of the tent facing the DJ, and there is this ENORMOUS grass space outside the entrance that was completely empty - no bathrooms/vendors, no sightline of the tent so nobody was ever there even if the Sahara was packed, etc. You'd crawl through the crowd and then it felt like half an acre to an acre of dead space, then the guest pit entrance. I am sure that is where it will be, and it's nowhere near the hill (on the other side entirely).

Is Dreamstate not a trance specific festival? surprised theyre booking prydz.

I am (pleasantly, because I committed to go but am not the biggest trance guy) surprised also but it seems pretty obvious. Dreamstate SF announced today that they are 4/4 and 4/5 in San Francisco, sale on Friday, no lineup yet. Prydz announced his Pryda tour today with a 4/4 date in San Francisco with the venue blurred out.
If that's legit I wonder why it's blocked off. If they're waiting for Just Like Heaven and GV put RK there instead of Coachella I will be immeasurably annoyed. Really anyone getting them and not Coachella will make me annoyed but that would be the most annoying GV cannibalization from JLH ever for me.

GV said "Miike Snow is the crossover you're getting and you'll like it, braun!"
And hey theres always the possibility of Rilo Kiley b2b The Decemberists at Quasar
