If that's legit I wonder why it's blocked off. If they're waiting for Just Like Heaven and GV put RK there instead of Coachella I will be immeasurably annoyed. Really anyone getting them and not Coachella will make me annoyed but that would be the most annoying GV cannibalization from JLH ever for me.
GV said "Miike Snow is the crossover you're getting and you'll like it, braun!"
And hey theres always the possibility of Rilo Kiley b2b The Decemberists at Quasar
They gotta move tickets for JLH. Rilo certainly more compelling than Miike Snow.
Granted it's buttrock, let's hope that Sick New World failing means single genre festivals are fizzling out and Coachella reabsorbs JLH bookings.

I just wish they’d throw us a bone, you pop New Order or Rilo Kiley on this lineup it’s so much more elite. As much as Coachella wants to segment indie music to its own fest they have to remember it’s one of the genres with the strongest crossover appeals.

They went big on indie this year, it's just current indie that appeals to 20-30 year olds. From lines 2 and 3 alone, you have The Marias, Still Woozy, Artemas, d4vd, Japanese Breakfast, Djo, beabadoobee, Clairo...that feels like more than recent years. My guess is based on the wild success of Portola and then the fact that Gwen and Co were the savior of their weak 2024 sales, for the 30-50 year olds they seemed to pivot to rare electronic bookings and then 90s alternative rock to move tickets instead of indie.

Live Nation got too greedy and combined it with a booker that destroyed their budget it makes sense it folded. And that person left LN anyway. Also Besame Mucho was a big hit too. I think LN doing their thing just shows how they go after so much too fast and arent thinking longer term. Jlh and Cruel World are still doing fine cause they arent destroying wallets in the same way. And La is easier to travel than Vegas cause Vegas is a money pit.
So wtf. Aeg can book Con Man at Electric Forest but not Coachella.

you say that like it's not the massive Serbian turbofolk audience that drives 95% of Coachella's ticket sales every year 😂😂

Damn you are right I am just not 20-30 so it went right past me. My issue with The Marias, Japanese Breakfast, beabadoobee and Claire is they all sound the frickin same!

So much hype for Confidence Man here so I have to wonder, are they that big in the States? Or are they just an ellusive booking that hasn't toured the States much.
Because they're an Aussie band and as much as I love their albums, they have been awful the times I've seen them. Almost certain they were lipsyncing, didn't play much off their newer album (TILT) at the time, and way too many interludes without them on stage.

Yea it all sounds the same to me too lmao. The Marias do have one fucking banger though, Hush - that is a vibe that sounds unlike a lot of the other indie out right now.

Following aside, I have been thinking they would be on the poster every year since 2018 and would be a great Gobi daytime party. I have to conclude that somebody at GV hates this band, tbh. They've said yes to way lesser fests and it feels almost certain Coachella has never offered them a spot.

But this year's crop of indie acts seem rather perfect to me to pair with a Rilo Kiley reunion! Heavily female indie pop rock! And we're lacking in reunions this year unless I'm missing something!

People could've said the same about all the indie bands of yesteryear. A lot of them sounded alike, only difference is people here actually liked them.

I am endeared to them by how amateur the leads are. It gives living room routine to some great songs. I love a mediocre live show with soul. Seen them at Glastonbury in 22 and on a mini US tour Dec 2023

this is true af bc i love all those groups and for the most part can't stand most of that 00s indy stuff
I think a vast majority of Rilo Kiley fans would much rather go to Just Like Heaven rather than Coachella.
You could say a "vast majority of {insert band name here} fans would much rather go to {insert single-day, single-genre festival}" about a lot of acts on this lineup. Every year when the lineup comes out, you see a ton of comments from band instagrams like Misfits, Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Green Day, etc complaining that they're playing Coachella when those fans want to see them anywhere else.
And I'm actually not sure that's as true for RK as it would be for most acts on a JLH lineup. Those lineups run a lot more indie sleaze than Rilo Kiley's sound.
(It's entirely possible RK won't be on the JLH lineup either, though, and it's also entirely possible they're not actually on Kilby Block Party lol)

Eh, sorta. Sure there's more indie on this lineup but it's indie that directly appeals to a younger crowd. As much as I would love to see them at Coachella, I'm not sure if the younger crowd really cares about Rilo Kiley (or even knows who they are).

I suspect they do not generally know Rilo Kiley, no; my point wasn't that they have fanbase crossover, it's that it's thematically good crossover. (And it's entirely possible they'd discover they love Rilo.)

They have essentially toured the u.s once on their own since they even became a group. So yeah, the elusive part is there. And people here are upset because they are a great festival act. High energy, costume changes, bangers on bangers. You need some straight up fun and they fit the bill on that. Its just shocking how the festival has either tried and failed or not tried at all to book them when its clear that they fit perfectly.
It's cool modern indie has so many women at the forefront. Indie bands of yore like Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire had prominent female members, but for the most part, it was a white dudes with beards genre

Are these wook festivals really finally moving past dubstep/wook/chainsmokers-Edm sounds or am I becoming washed because they’re starting to book solid lineups that warrant the experience

If they are, the wooks are not happy, I thought this lineup looked pretty good at first glance or at least better then Eforest had booked the past few years, but I’ve never seen such a negative reaction to their lineup on Reddit.
Eforest was one of my first camping festivals in 2014, it’s wild to see how much the lineups have changed since then for this festival.
