@ that one user claiming Fred is bigger than Charli… the numbers prove otherwise.
Fred tried (and failed) to sell out an arena tour. The upper AND lower bowls were blocked off in some cities. I doubt we’ll ever see a boxscore for that tour.
With Fred, his hype seems extremely industry-fueled. Charli’s is much more authentic; she’s had a cult following for years and Brat was an unexpected mainstream success. Her arena tour, despite initially underselling, is consistently sold out unlike Fred’s. In terms of the zeitgeist, no one is talking about Fred, everyone was talking about or exposed to Brat summer even if not familiar with the actual music, and unlike someone like Calvin Harris in the dance music scene, Fred has had no mainstream crossover hits.
With that being said, I’m not mad at him headlining because the talent and ability to put on a headlining show are there. But let’s not act like he’s more popular than Charli XCX.

Cool. He will still have a bigger crowd than Charli
But we like how you had to re word your position to make it seem like youre right. Fucking kids these days.
I don't know why you're being weirdly hostile to someone who was clearly expressing support for a people facing devastation not seen in years, not their fault you misunderstood what they said
radiohead is his favorite band of all time so i assume he’s just upset that i painted them in a negative light. whateva

Would Michael Jackson have headlined by now if the big man was still with us?
He would have cancelled more of those 75 London shows than played. He already blew off the first week and looked terrible in the rehearsal film. Some of the film was the only take he did in rehearsals - some Ortega testimony in the AEG lawsuit were yikes. I think only 12 minutes in the show was intended to be live vocal. not a single insurance company in the world would touch MJ. London arena shows could be date shuffled but Coachella cant.

Fred is visiting markets he hasn't been to yet, all of which are not EDM-heavy markets. Like I said, his popularity isn't really gauged by his ability to sell tickets in East Troy, WI, it's gauged by his ability to continually sell out shows in major markets like LA and NY.
He practically sold out a stadium show in 5 days in SoCal despite doing like 10 shows in CA in the past year (which also all sold out and were not small venues either), Charli doesn't have that same pull.

All evidence tells us that MJ was a complete mess at that point and wasn't really going to be capable of anything.
It's a somewhat interesting question on what his career trajectory could have been if he kicked the drugs and got clean and focused, but everything we know about him suggests that he just had enough money and ability to make bad continual bad decisions. Even setting aside the allegations, it just doesn't seem like there was ever hope for a happy ending even if the fan demand was always going to be there.

Fred will have a bigger crowd than Charli, 100%.
The crazy thing for me is my group of friends all love electronic music and the electronic lineup at Coachella is always a big piece of why want to go. That being said, none of us would care to watch Fred but would all be charli.
I really don’t think he would pull a bigger crowd than Charli. Maybe pre-brat…Charli gained a ton of new fans because of Brat and most of them probably did not spend $500+ to see her on tour. So they would use Coachella as an opportunity to catch her.

I mean sure, tastes are subjective, but stadium show numbers (from a show that happened post-brat release and long after 360 and the brat marketing dropped) don't lie. I don't think Charli could do 10 shows in CA in the next year and then sell out a stadium show unless she put out an album that was just as big as brat, if not bigger. SoCal (and CA in general) is Fred's market, and who makes up a majority of Coachella attendees?
Don't get me wrong though, I'll be at both.

i wish i was as passionate about anything in my life as some of you are about charli vs fred
Yeah this argument feels like looking down a railroad and arguing if the freight train barreling down at 60 miles an hour is going to hit you from the front or the back.

I honestly think if Charli announced a single show she could also sell out the Coliseum.
But this topic is boring and it’s time to move on.

I don't think anyone's mentioned this, but an important thing about Fred headlining: He's kinda hand-in-hand with Coachella. Like, Frank Ocean dropping out did wonders for his visibility. Coachella, if they're smart, may use that to their marketing advantage.
but i'm tired of Charli vs Fred. any topic to move onto? How's Taylor looking?

Bad Bunny was outselling everyone, but arguably drew the smallest crowd out of all the headliners in 2023. I dont know that you can just simply go by the touring numbers and definitively say he will outdraw Charli. Let's say Charli is the final set of Sunday, for instance, I could see an almost PHM-lite final hurrah rager situation. BRAT has the cultural cache I think to draw in a lot of curious eyes and if placed at the end could create something bigger than Fred's act could (especially with how sleepy it can get)
Funny how those "everybody already had a chance to see them" arguments have suddenly vanished when talking about Charli.
I think the argument is valid for the latest tour. While a lot of the older fans would’ve already had tickets, many of the shows were sold out by the time of show and new fans wouldn’t have been able to scoop tickets at a decent price.

Or maybe consider that her tour was booked when she was much smaller and massively sold out, so there is obviously still huge demand for her. In stark contrast to Fred right now, who has been giving away tickets. Charli's surge in popularity is more in line with Cardi B (though obviously not nearly as huge) back when she performed than just some mid-tier act with a passionate fanbase. Her music is everywhere, she's the hot thing in pop music right now and would pull a ton of people to the fest just to see her who wouldn't have cared about her a year ago. She could subheadline and I wouldn't be surprised if she outdrew Fred, who has clearly lost a lot of steam (the only time I hear him mentioned outside Coachella topics is how his latest album is kinda lame) and has saturated SoCal specifically.
Funny how you act like you are amused by this "animosity between Fred and Charli fans", which you totally aren't part of, but you come off as the staunchest Fred fan on the board (following your logic that having an opinion about crowd size is an indication of fandom).
