interpol was too dark and gloomy for me when they got big in the early 00's. but i came around on them eventually. they aren't a band i was hoping to be on the bonnaroo lineup in 2024, but they're probably gonna be a can't miss for me.

i love how the yearly response to this is basically something like "its not that great, [insert day here] is pretty bad, i really hate [insert headliner here], but i dont really care if i see all that much music, i guess this is fine, see you all at the farm", and I mean that sincerely. you're all a bunch of sickos and i respect your illness.
I checked out Teezo Touchdown a while back and was actually mildly impressed, but then I saw that his live performances are just him singing over a backing track, and that's lame AF when he put out an album that's begging to be played with a band.
apparently Sean Paul plays with a full band and brass section

appreciate that. i used to snicker at people who talked themselves into going to bonnaroo until i got older and began talking myself into going to bonnaroo.

some smaller artists I recommend:
Geese: they changed up their style a lot and they're like a more rough-around-the-edges St. Paul and the Broken Bones now? I like it. Military Gun: good punk Nation of Language: new wave revival Say She She: haven't listened to enough to give Dan accurate description but very good
49 Winchester: good country, not mind blowing but if you like Charley Crockett, Childers, type country, it's solid Baby Queen: I thought this might be corny Yungblud type stuff but I think she has a unique sound and some nice hooks. Kinda Rodrigo-y but more musically interesting. Mdou Moctar - African psych rock, little Hendrixy Half Moon Run - good indie folk, not too boring either
Gregory Alan Isakov - folk but kinda boring, good songwriter MIKE - lo-fi Earl Sweatshirt type alt rap, not to be confused with the other mike on this who is atrocious
The Garden - punk? ska? I can't describe them but super unique sound with a ton of energy. They look cool too. Yves Tumor - art rock Irreversible Entanglements - jazz Armand Hammer - same as MIKE
I rate the lineup a 3/10 for my tastes. No way I’d pay for this though. Checked with 2 of my kids. One (he’s been goiing since 13 or 14) said it was bottom 3 Roo lineup which I agree with. Daughter said kinda flubish but we will still have a good time. I also agree with this. What I’m missing is something big to be excited for. I love this version of Pretty Lights, but that’s really it if the bigger names. I haven’t listened to bubblegum since grade school. So acts like Carly Rae Jepsen are not acts I have even a little bit of interest in. I could see myself at Maggie hoping to dig it though. Seems like Bonnaroo is hitting that 4th festival wave now and looking to appeal to the people who it holds a lot of interest for - people born around or after the turn of the century. And you see that in some of the posts here. I’m glad many of those people are excited.
fwiw i'm 35 and i'm super excited lol. i am much happier today than i was a year ago on lineup day. also all my friends who are mid 30s are pretty pumped.
as far as Carly Rae Jepsen goes- she has an incredibly deep catalogue and is prob the most underrated pop artist today. she puts on a great show and her last two albums- The Loneliest Time and The Loveliest Time are gems. and she plays Call Me Maybe in the middle of the set so it's not the bubblegum pop of 12 years ago or whatever.
Maggie Rogers is great, i'm super excited for her set, esp with the teases of her new album i've seen.
i do think this lineup is missing one artist that makes it a "WOW" but i only ever had that feeling one time with a roo lineup and that was 2020. this is a very solid undercard that has a lot of exciting new artists.
Another lack for me is hard acts. GWAR is there and a couple rappers I like and DJ’s. But instead of metal or hardcore they went Emo which annoys me as mich as hairspray metal did. So I’m kind of fucked on how I’d prefer to spend my days popping in and out of genres. I’m still going though. As noted above by Larry and Post.

Say She She: haven't listened to enough to give Dan accurate description but very good
The Garden - punk? ska? I can't describe them but super unique sound with a ton of energy. They look cool too.
I can cosign these. Say She She will be an amazing Thursday tent set. I want them in the Sons of Kemet bonnaroo meetup slot tbh. Just a total euphoric dance party.
The Garden is going to be fucked in a really good way
i been saying for years bonnaroo needs to book more american business managers and owners. can't believe we are getting a legend who spent decades with Occidental Petroleum.

i can't wait to drink beers at camp
Yeah but people go on cruises u know
yeah i mean and whats the alternative to bonnaroo? spending a nice weekend at home relaxing with my wife and dog and watching tv and cooking new recipes from NYT Cooking wait
I'm hoping with Mars Volta's billing they are late night tent. It was cool seeing them at Shaky Knees but it still being light out on the main stage wasn't ideal. 90 minute set in a tent would be a much more magical experience.
You will get 1 hr and you will LIKE IT! But seriously, last time I saw a TMV festival set, they spent half of it playing an extended version of Cicatriz ESP. At first you'll be like "this is self-indulgent af!" but it gets good again around minute 24 I promise!

yeah that description put them immediately in my do not see/do not listen to/do not google/immediately forget they exist category.

Go to Napa for Bottlerock. But it's Memorial Day, and I already have plans.
After letting this sink in, I'm personally liking it a degree more or two than I did initially. I'm finding a lot of acts that I knew, but didn't know that I knew if that makes any sense.
I also think that the one main thing that this lineup is missing that would push this over the top for some people is one or two of those "I can't believe that they booked them" kind of acts, it feels like it's missing that.

knocked loose was a really big factor in my attending last year for this reason. i just knew that set was going to be unforgettable at bonnaroo. and it exceeded my expectations!

This really threw me too lol, more like the Stones and Led Zeppelin funneled through The Strokes imo
