After sitting on the lineup for a few hours, here are my thoughts. It's missing a little extra ooomph in the indie/alternative realm. the 1975, yeah yeah yeahs, beach house, bands of that nature would elevate it a fair amount. However, Friday and Sunday are really good in my opinion, and knowing there's gonna be a million other things to do outside of the music, and I'll be bringing a big group of friends, so I'm excited as always for another year on the farm.
Yeah Fred Again seems to be the one baffling most of the people on the socials. Which is great because if all those people leave early Sunday then you get more room to dance. Opening the main stage with edm and closing it with edm. Definitely an edm year, which you know you either dig or you don't.

my thoughts exactly. a 1975 or boygenius would’ve been incredible. my biggest disappointment is rap. MIKE and big x are really great bookings, but other than joey it’s just too dry. i will say i’ve really warmed up to the idea of fred closing it out. during foo fighters i mainly sat down and watched from afar, but i know fred will keep me moving.

honestly i'd be thrilled to find enough EDM i like to spend most of my time at The Other. trying to guess what artists are EDM but i'm clicking artists here i think are EDM and it's just another girlfriends and boyfriends duo folksynthpop act from brooklyn with maybe their friend playing a small little drum kit. and the album cover is a picture of them in a field and they are generally good looking.

The toughest spot on this lineup at first glance is the 2nd line of Saturday. I like Cage enough, but it just feels brutal otherwise, and cage shouldn't have #2 on their day.
But I wanna have fun so: Melanie Martinez: Has anyone seen her set? It looks wild enough that it could be fun Cigs After Sex: Any fans here? Can someone give me a few songs to start out with? I feel like I should be into them by now. Diplo: Maybe he'll break his leg and Kx5 will fill in! Jon Batiste: Same request as Cigs after sex

Raising the prices & getting rid of single-day passes is starting to makes sense. I hate to say it, but it's not because they were investing a lot in the lineup. It's damage control, since they don't think people are going to show up for this one. It seems like 2022 caught them off guard, and they don't want to lose money again this year.

Hamdi makes old school UK dubstep style stuff
Edit: also thought ISOxo was great when I saw him open for RL Grime
thursday schedule concerning: do we think PL will be unopposed? possibility of PL/bigxthaplug/eggy/gwar conflict?
my first thought was opposed to FISHER on the Other? but if they're opening What then they don't' need to worry about crowd control really. so maybe unopposed.

The indie/alt is gold below the top two lines, fwiw. Jap House works closely with 1975/Bon Iver, Bonny Light Horseman is affiliated with Bon Iver’s lil label PEOPLE, Yves Tumor / Roisin / Geese / Ryan Beatty could all be at pitchfork next year. Cage / Interpol / TV Girl / Carly Rae / Maggie Rogers are all at least indie-adjacent top liners that are quality bookings.
LCD / Boygenius / Arcade Fire / Vampire Weekend would be kindve a weak headliner or too expensive of a sub im imagining.
jumping back a couple of days but interpol is one of my kind of irrational hatred bands. i actually listened to them when they first started and didn't think it was that bad, but then the press showed up and said "they are today's joy division" and i got really really angry about that. like i try to be chill now about stuff but at the time i was in my early 20s and i was not trying to listen to some asshole at Spin magazine equate fucking INTERPOL with Joy Division just because their music is a little gloomy and the spin writer wants to go out into new york and find interpol and do cocaine with them.

i really liked Jon Batiste's latest album World Music Radio. it's eclectic and fun imo.

They're the exact same band as the National in my brain but a little worse bc they're not from cincinnati
I rate the lineup a 3/10 for my tastes. No way I’d pay for this though. Checked with 2 of my kids. One (he’s been goiing since 13 or 14) said it was bottom 3 Roo lineup which I agree with. Daughter said kinda flubish but we will still have a good time. I also agree with this. What I’m missing is something big to be excited for. I love this version of Pretty Lights, but that’s really it of the bigger names. I haven’t listened to bubblegum since grade school. So acts like Carly Rae Jepsen are not acts I have even a little bit of interest in. I could see myself at Maggie hoping to dig it though. Seems like Bonnaroo is hitting that 4th festival wave now and looking to appeal to the people who it holds a lot of interest for - people born around or after the turn of the century. And you see that in some of the posts here. I’m glad many of those people are excited.

oh wow, yeah listening to Hamdi now and i've definitely heard some of these tracks on other electronic playlists. thanks for the heads up, i enjoy the OG dubstep vibes.

also they've probably never written a song with 1/10th the emotional heft of "Bloodbuzz Ohio".

I think this lineup will be a lot like 2018 in that it was bad looking but had a lot of artists that were huge a few years later. My predictions on those artists:

fingers crossed that happens to Diplo lmao.
Second the Jon Batiste rec. Look up his live sets, his tiny desk in particular is very fun. He was a studio musician for a pretty long time before making his own music and hes quite talented. Only thing about him is his lyrics can be kinda childlike-basic, sorta like Teezo. But that set will definitely be a fun little dance party.

fwiw i'm 35 and i'm super excited lol. i am much happier today than i was a year ago on lineup day. also all my friends who are mid 30s are pretty pumped.
as far as Carly Rae Jepsen goes- she has an incredibly deep catalogue and is prob the most underrated pop artist today. she puts on a great show and her last two albums- The Loneliest Time and The Loveliest Time are gems. and she plays Call Me Maybe in the middle of the set so it's not the bubblegum pop of 12 years ago or whatever.
Maggie Rogers is great, i'm super excited for her set, esp with the teases of her new album i've seen.
i do think this lineup is missing one artist that makes it a "WOW" but i only ever had that feeling one time with a roo lineup and that was 2020. this is a very solid undercard that has a lot of exciting new artists.

There are a couple okay acts I haven’t seen, but that pool is shallow for me since I don’t like most house or pop. There are a couple grime/trap/dub/bass artists, but most of what’s on there doesn’t go hard enough for me. The D&B set should be cool anyway.

I checked out Teezo Touchdown a while back and was actually mildly impressed, but then I saw that his live performances are just him singing over a backing track, and that's lame AF when he put out an album that's begging to be played with a band.
