Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.

Bizarraps tour this spring isn’t big. They’re playing a relatively smaller venue in nyc (terminal 5)- 3k capacity. For reference, Noname played their last fall and had a mid-day Mojave set last year

I don't think it reflects Bizarraps popularity. He's not going to have a Metro turn out but it should still be huge

Funny enough last year people were pointing to Metro DJing to a small crowd at an MLS launch party as a reason that the show wouldn't be that busy.

Prime time Sahara in mocks, they better. Don’t think they’d have an earlier main stage set like Burna boy or pusha t last year?

Super surprised flight facilities is going to be a dj set with owl eyes and ric rufio doing live vocals. I’m sure this is going in the Yuma like whomadewho last year

Well this is disappointing. I was really hoping they were going to be live. If it is a DJ set I probably won't even watch it.
NGL- I was really wanting to see crave you live in a tent. Call me basic, I don't care.
I am shocked it’s not live as they dj’d the do lab last year too. Getting nervous now Gorgon City might be a DJ set
I didn't think the lineup would get more disappointing after sitting with it for a month, but if Grimes, Skepta, Gorgon, and Flight Facilities are all DJ sets then they somehow managed to pull it off. Barry Can't Swim too, though I only started getting hope for that to be live when he did live sets at the end of 2023. (Note: yes, sure, there are some acts I've discovered that I'm excited for, but it feels like fewer of those than usual too.)

I agree with this in regards to the DJ sets vs live sets, but I have discovered so many others that I am excited for that I am still happy with the lineup. Honestly, as long as I get 1-2 legit EDM sets a day I am usually happy supplementing with bands/singers.

Agree with you on all that.
Fingers crossed since gorgon is playing m3f fest next month and that sets a dj set and GC liking mostly every comment asking them if they are playing live at chella that it is a live set. Barry better be live or that is such a freaking let down.
This is likely a stupid question, and one that I should honestly know considering how long I have been going... but how do you know if it is live or DJ before hand? I know Yuma is all DJ but other than that how does one tell?

There's no way to know for sure unless they're in the Yuma or give an indication ahead of time (as FF did, or prior tour dates make it clear). Definitely an advantage to going W2. I miss the days of (DJ Set).

Follow-up question...honestly, what the hell is really the difference between a DJ set and a "live" electronic set, from a performance standpoint? Is it all smoke and mirrors?

DJ set uses mixing and turntables and often very few songs by that artist incorperated in the set. live involved implementing some kind of live instrumentation and the material all being music by the artist

I've been in the Yuma less than ten times over the years but I do remember Ross from Friends having live guitar and saxophone so I am not sure if having an artist scheduled for Yuma would guarantee it being considered a DJ set vs their live set

If anyone has a youtube video explaining what's being done in a live set, I would love to see it, if only to send to friends who comes to something like Chemical Brothers or Justice and think it's just them hitting play lol. Like I know the Chem Bros setup is incredibly complex, but I have no clue what they're actually doing up there, and whatever it is, it's gotta be somewhat pre-set to fit with the videos? Or are they mixing in the videos live also?
I generally prefer live sets simply because I want to see the act's own music in most cases, but especially enjoy live sets with some instrumentation; just easier to get into when I have some concept of what they're actually doing.
