Oh and on top of a super sparse Mojave, with Lovejoy out that leaves us with only 6 poster acts in the Gobi on Friday too. Last year had 9 poster acts in the Gobi, 9 in 2022 too. So, between the two tents we are down 5 tent acts compared to Friday of 2023 and down 7 tent acts compared to Friday of 2022. Of course we could be very wrong about how many acts are slotted and where, but it shows at least a few venues will be really light this year. Haven't checked Sahara, outdoor stages, etc but that alone is wild. I actually like this year's lineup a lot, but so much downtime especially on "kick off" day is bizarre and a bummer.

2 hour Deftones set confirmed 😈
I wonder if thats gonna be a thing if you have more time to give artists and the closing ones get a full headline set now. Nobody would argue against a 90 min Deftones set. That could just be a new thing they try. Tent closers who warrant a long set get it. At least they can justify being booked rather than just getting 50 minutes.
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.
IDK who said it, but outside of the headliners I actually like the shorter sets. Like I want to see what you have to offer then it's on to the next.
Totally. At a festival, I want to keep it moving. Give me your best 10 songs then I'm on to the next thing. For the ultra rare stuff like Chemical Brothers then yeah, I get the 80+ minute sets because you don't have a million changes to see that act, but if I want a full set from an undercard act I'll go to their own show. For me part of the fun of a festival is getting a lot of quick hits on a lot of different genres, the way Bonnaroo used to give every act 90 minutes, even the tiny undercard acts, would be way less fun for me.

Aphex Twin getting an hour 45 was totally worth it. I wish Jamiroquai got a longer time overall even thiugh they had 75 mins. If Blur only gets 50 mins that would suck though. But last hear we had a ton of acts barely break 40 minutes, it was kind of jarring. Losing out a couple songs is sort of telling when youre used to most acts playing 10 songs in a set.

I agree with you and Travelfan- there are some sets that leave us unfulfilled and wanting more. That is why I said with the exception of head liners, but that wasn't a fair statement. Subs I always want more (IDK the last time I actually watched a head liner tbh).
That is too generalised, though, as there are undoubtedly sets that aren't HL or subs that need more time. I suppose what I am trying to say is as a rule I like shorter sets, however there are always exceptions to that rule.

Like some Sonora acts I totally understand if they play 35-40 minutes because its all they can pull off. And the turn around is quick anyway. Wouldve been interesting to see if they had booked Zulu to have them play 20 minutes then onto the next act
Yeah, I was thinking Chappell in the Carly Rae slot, or at the latest maybe in Remi Wolf’s spot, in the Mojave. Or really: just re-organize the Mojave so it’s in billing order for Skepta, Brittany, Chappell, and Deftones. Not sure why we have it the way it is right now.
Doing this would put Chappell and Sabrina Carpenter on at the same time. I think Deftones in Blondie's Mojave slot makes a lot of sense, as both acts had the same exact billing, and as someone else pointed out, them conflicting with someone like Everything Always makes a ton of sense, vs going against the #2 on Friday or Justice or something.
But (as always) if I'm alone here, we can make this happen.

I think another alternative to artists having longer set times is bigger breaks between artists. Especially with new stage/john summit/sub headliner mega-pulls
Weekend 2 really did get Fat Joe instead of T-Pain. Sucks for y'all. (I respect Fat Joe lol)
Really hope T-Pain doesn't conflict with anyone for me
I mean honestly I think you'll need to get there hours ahead of time and camp out to make that show, so the conflicts will be for the few hours before his set too.
There's never been a single set in the history of the Heiny Dome that justified the time wasted to actually see it.
Yeah you look at that and say, hey, Bob Sinclair at sunset for 30 minutes would be a vibe, then realize you have to get there hours in advance. I've never even been in there. Maybe I'll try to walk in at 1:30 or something this year when nobody is there just to check it out.

Good point about Sabrina, I def agree. If you want to keep Deftones there that’s fine - I think they work in either spot - but I’d still switch Chappell and Skepta at least. Skepta’s already done a daytime tent set and it didn’t work great (Sahara), plus he’s billed a line higher.

Right, but this would again put Chappell at the same time as Sabrina.

Wait, then I was confused by the earlier comment. My original proposal was to just do that portion of the Mojave tent in billing order, which would be Chappell -> Brittany -> Skepta -> Deftones. I wrote them out of order but what I said/meant was “follow the billing.” Put Skepta and Deftones however you want, but Chappell fits a trend of late afternoon indie pop ladies (like Carly and Remi Wolf), and that first slot of the four. That’s mostly what I’m getting at. If she is where Brittany is now, no Sabrina conflict, and Brittany is both billed higher (barely) and has no issue going against Sabrina.

Ah I see. I made these changes, and put Skepta after Deftones, mainly because putting them in Deftones slot means we would have literally every stage with a DJ on it (if Skepta is indeed DJing, which it seems more and more like he is) except the Sonora during that slot....which I guess stranger things have happened, but I think the way we have it now after these changes makes a bit more sense.

For what it’s worth - I mentioned this earlier but Skepta’s performing live at Big Smoke fest in the UK this summer, and it’s billed as his only live UK show this year, which implies more live shows outside the UK. And he’s performed live as recently as 2022. I also think he might’ve been in the Yuma if he were DJ’ing. I slightly lean that he’ll be live, but neither would surprise me.
