Got a message saying the Mojave schedule I posted is outdated, and that Anti Up are actually closing the Mojave. When I asked about a specific time, they said "Times are changing daily right now".
this kinda thing is hard for me to believe. Is it that Anti Up was always going to be in the Mojave, or that they recently were switched from Sahara to Mojave? If it's the latter, doesn't that have an impact to their plans on setting up the stage and their light/visual show?
like I know to some degree light shows are adaptable to different stages / venues but logistically it just seems like a mess to have that significant of a change decided slightly over a week out

I took the initial list with a grain of salt anyway. We have years of experience seeing acts switch stages and times last minute; it felt a little suspect to me that they'd have a full list for the Mojave a week before regardless. Maybe an act or two where the setup might need to be oriented specifically for a given rig, but there's no reason the people setting up would need to know Young Fathers or Last Dinner Party will be there lol. We'll see!
I guess really what I'm saying is it just seems weird to switch a primetime DJ artist at night where there's a focus on the visual experience from Sahara to Mojave this late in the game. I can understand it with bands, that's just a matter of staging, but are we really saying it's trivial to port Sahara EDM production seamlessly over to Mojave production? shouldn't the Sahara tent be decked out with cool bells and whistles for a set exactly like Anti Up?
Coachella had a hard enough time booking headliners this year yet y’all still wished they would’ve turned away Lana for a lesser shittier headliner in favor of keeping underattended sets.
I would bet a frozen lemonade if there were a way to measure this that by the halfway point of Lana's set there will be like 40,000 people there at most, leaving more than half the festival (2/3 in a sellout!) to go home if there's nothing else, so yeah, I'm fucking complaining about it. Either way, weird thing to defend GV for in general but especially when prices are going up and the lineup is going down.
I'm just saying that a headliner asking to go unopposed probably isn't as huge dealbreaker like people here making it out to be. If they really want a certain headliner and they demand a couple more stages be closed during their set than normal then it's probably worth the sacrifice to secure the headliner they want. Probably not worth dying on a hill for. I also feel like the narrative would be different if we learned they missed out on a headliner this board really likes just because GV wouldn't shut down the Gobi and Sahara for them.
Not saying I'm a fan of the move, I always like more options but I at least understand where they're coming from. Having one or two more options is nice but people are acting like this is going to ruin their entire weekend. It's kinda lame but people are being overdramatic about this.

I got about 75% of the way through a mock poster and set times in July and got bored and never finished it but I had Anti Up closing the Mojave on Friday and I'm feeling vindicated

For me it's not even about whether it's a headliner I like so much as the nature of it being Lana specifically. If this were some rare or exclusive or massive booking that I don't personally like I would be bummed but not reacting this way. If it were a more upbeat artist, I don't think most attendees would care that much. If it were Sunday, it would be understandable. But it's someone who was a sub at festivals last year and only the second billed headliner at Hangout this year, and it's downer music to close out the first night of the festival. People will not be happy, and for the amount of money they're spending, they'll be justified in that. Beyonce didn't even shut the festival down, and they're doing it for Lana? Gimme a break.
If someone has the time and ability to turn the "Lana playing unopposed" controversy into one of those Hitler meme videos I'd be willing to watch it. Feels like there's a lot of potential.

I would say prep the video and then wait for times to drop to confirm this. The endless laughs would come.

Cmon supre just do it. You can take credit on reddit even. Endless karma for the taking.

I've already done my hitler meme video for the year. Need a new format to jump back in the game. (Also does Reddit know about this Lana situation yet?)

Can you relink the Hitler video for this year haha - yours from the other year was so good.
And yes Reddit knows about it because it's from Reddit which is a sign that maybe we should take this with a *little* grain of salt haha. If Anti Up is closing Mojave, what sounds more realistic, Anti Up vs Justice, the Mojave shutting down before Justice even takes the stage, or Anti Up vs Lana?

Ahh right you missed it!
2024:
I personally prefer this year's to 2023's but they're both a little dependent on being in the heat of that moment of panic with a bunch of very well adjusted music festival message board people.

Thats where it came from and how we have been arguing for the last 18 hours.

A good friend of mine did the visuals for the Outdoor for the last couple years, and confirmed things to me like that The Hu was playing there at 3.
I’m hoping whatever unknown act- if it’s reall- is SAULT
that would be both unexpected AND very cool, a real feather in Paul's cap
That’s how SAULT would do it, and this is the time for Coachella to get them. The band teased their first live shows in LA and NYC, finally debuted to soaring reviews. Would be on brand for both Coachella and SAULT to have them pop up at Coachella and then announce nyc dates
do y'all really hate Lana that much? The woman is nothing if not enigmatic... I'm fairly certain she's going to put on a beautiful and epic new show.
I enjoy listening to her music, I think she's a great artist, but she's not a good live show. Maybe she'll do something visually to mix it up, but I doubt that she's going to all of a sudden become a good performer. "Chill" music artists can be engaging live, but she hasn't shown that she's one of them in over a decade of performing. Her vocal prowess isn't strong enough to make up for the lack of everything else on stage. I enjoy listening to Lana at home, I may even enjoy a Lana show at a more intimate venue (with seats). But I don't think I'd want to be standing for 90 minutes on the fields after a long day with her type of show. It definitely promotes sleepy lol
One thing that really bugged me when I saw her, is that she sung underneath the backing vocal track like 80% of the show.
But who knows, like I said she may do something visually engaging and/or have other talent on stage with her like dancers, etc.
She has a dedicated following so I'm sure a lot of people will love her set, she deserves to be there. But I think it's also valid for people to not be interested in her type of show (and people's preferences in general are valid, I'm sure some people don't wanna see either Tyler because maybe they think he's too hyper)
As a huge Lana fan, I do hope there is decent counter programming during her set. Totally understand people not wanting to end their day with something that I find compelling and beautiful, but others might find slow or boring. If some (many) want to end their Friday by jumping up and down and getting wild to Anti—Up or Gorgon City, or whatever, they should be given that opportunity, and let the people who want to be engrossed, be engrossed. There’s room for all.

Sault on the hill would be more to their liking. But who knows, it would be much better than Glass Animals.
