I hadn't remembered this, but Daft Punk was barely a late add; they're on announcement articles from Feb 2 like this one. I think they just weren't on the text lineup that psychicfriend put on the message boards (same with a few of the others, but I've added the rest!)
They were not included in some lists proliferating or that were announced on January 31, 2006 (not in poster form). PT confirmed or had an interview at KROQ that it was not really ready (?) or at least total 16 artists short but they ended up adding those artists (excluding Kanye) with everyone into a poster form the following days.

What date PF posted it in the message board? I was only mainly lurking then in that older board. I loved her avatar! Haha For me, it was an add because when I first find out they were not in it.

Haha yeah I’m not sure the best way to handle those. I decided to go with “late adds are acts who weren’t on the initial poster drop,” since the message board drop was so weird, the poster is the more “official lineup release,” and we can’t know what late adds other years fall into the same “we’ve got more coming but they’re not settled yet” bucket. If they’re added after the initial poster, they’re a late add.
At this point they ain't adding shit. WhyTheLongFace is right, not enough time or motivation to get housing and flights just to see a bunch of third liners. Also there is the chance that this isn't selling as horrifically as we thought and they've hit whatever profit margin they want/need and while this year is surely a disappointment, they may not feel like they need to pump it up at all and are just going to move on to next year.

I hate to say it, but I totally agree with this.
TBH at this point I don't even care if anyone gets added or not. I already have so many people I want to see it would just add another conflict for me.
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.
