the case to vote off opiates:
i recognize piggy pablo and some others made some good defenses of opiates yesterday. they are an unabashed good when used medically, they are a massively important invention when it comes to pain management. for that reason alone i am glad they exist. i had gallstones this past summer and was in the hospital for a week and i am SO glad opiates existed so instead of crying in pain for days i could watch Veep on my tablet and shitpost on inforoo.
but i am seeing the context of this survivor to be more about recreational use since most of the drugs on this list are used recreationally and this is a drug festival forum. as a recreational drug opiates are absolutely one of the worst on this list. they isolate you, offer no spiritual or emotional benefits, and you can build a physical dependence on them in a few short months of regular use. meaning you basically stop getting high and are just taking them to not get sick. and get sick you will! i've abused opiates but luckily never used them enough to develop a physical resistance, but i've talked with lots of people in the throes of opiate withdrawal and it sucks shit.
totally down with getting salvia out of here soon, it's the worst psychedelic by far. lame ass drug.

The best case against opiates is that they've killed like 20 people I've known. Even with that though, y'all acting like you've never enjoyed a good nod. Probably the best high on here. Plus, the actually medicinal factor. Not saying they should win or anything but voting them off this early is kind of whack.
i always enjoyed salvia. it was never a big part of our party regimen, but it was fun to blast off for bit every now and then. If it were longer then it would be a lot more terrifying but usually I just find myself lying on the floor laughing my ass off whenever I come back from Deep Space 9. granted it's been at least a decade so maybe I just have rose colored memories.

Remember like 15 years ago Miley Cyrus got caught on video smoking a bong and her response was “I wasn’t smoking illegal marijuana, I was smoking perfectly legal salvia.”? I talk a lot of shit about Miles but she was wild for that one

Just brushing right by 20 people you know dying.
Yeah, both opiate use and 12th step recovery in Western PA will do that. My assumption is that most people were voting for opiates because they knew people that they cared about who died from ODs, fentanyl particularly
my college roommate got cancer our junior year, so he had a pharmacy in his room. he couldn't drink because of chemo but he'd take a couple xanax, be the 'drunkest' one at the party for an hour, and then pass out for 12 hours.
I cannot wait to come to bat for nitrous in 12 rounds
Yeah. My last dentist (jailed for shooting at the police) would give me 20 minutes on the tank before drilling. Drill all the fuck you want. I don’t get whipits or balloons because there’s not much of a point beyond a few seconds of rush. But if you can go down for an hour or so, it’s pleasant regardless of what they’re doing to you. I’m surprised it’s gone out of favor but I’m guessing that’s because of the medical sales industry
I've been on the front lines, from the beginning. I've seen what the abuse of opiates does. It's a great class of drugs, don't get me wrong. I have needed it a few times when I had surgery. But thanks to the Sacklers, and all the others like them, the abuse has destroyed more lives than all the other above drugs combined.

I just don’t get it because when I’ve taken it for legit pain it only makes me sleepy or sick. Nothing else makes me sick. So I can’t imagine doing it for fun.

The only time I remember being prescribed any opioids was when I got hydrocodone after I had my wisdom teeth out. I took one dose and it made me throw up (which is great with freshly removed teeth), so I didn’t take any more. But I’m sure it’s not the same for everyone.
They'll often get you on an empty stomach, but wtf are you supposed to eat if you just had your wisdom teeth taken out? Maybe a smoothie king smoothie or something. But IDK
