we've left out the cultural impact of LSD as well. Like half the music we like on this dumb board arose from psychedelia in general if not acid specifically

Alcohol is also the only physically addictive substance left on the list. I'd typically call that a mark against, but I'm not sure how that rates by Inforoo logic.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 11/21 - Caribou @ Avant Gardner 11/23 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center 11/25 - TV on the Radio @ Webster Hall 12/5 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center 12/7 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center 12/14 - LCD Soundsystem @ Knockdown Center
I'd love to see those numbers? the graphs and shit you posted the other day were definitely based on alcohol being way more consumed
i honestly thought you were just goading me this whole time; i did not think you truly reject the facts around alcohol's health risks and how prevalent they are. an estimated one in five deaths of people ages 20 to 49 is attributable to excessive alcohol use.
these comments about "acid can rot your brain" are equally true of abusing any drug, very much including alcohol. but acid and shrooms and weed are not huge risk factors for 9 different types of cancer, alcohol is. they dont harm your liver or heart the way alcohol does. this isnt a thing of "alcohol leads to more people getting cancer than acid does" by way of alcohol being consumed more, it just literally causes the damage by its consumption??
i didnt know any of this was considered debatable info.
I never argued alcohol isn't harmful or is healthy. I just said one of the biggest reasons for saying it causes so much more damage is that so much more people partake in it. And by that same measure, since so many more people are doing it, it also causes the most good, fun times. you're the one that has been arguing acid, mushrooms, molly is healthy in some way for your brain chemistry.

Where is the evidence of this? How many examples do we truly have of people who do a shitload of LSD 3 different times a week for years straight?
there is nothing in the compound of LSD or shrooms or THC that causes the diseases that alcohol does. like, i can try to call up some scientists for you? but again, i thought this wasnt a debatable thing among the masses. i drank regularly for years and years, now i basically have stopped entirely, but at no point in my years of regular drinking did i not know how horrible for our brains and health it is.
"The ethanol in alcoholic drinks breaks down to acetaldehyde, a known carcinogen. This compound damages DNA and stops our cells from repairing the damage. This can allow cancerous cells to grow.
Alcohol can affect levels of hormones like estrogen. These hormones act as messengers that tell our cells to grow and divide. The more cells divide, the more chances there are for something to go wrong and for cancer to develop."
this just quite simply isnt true of hallucinogens. i dont know what else to say. ethanol is poisonous to human bodies.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

you wont be able to quote me anywhere in this thread on saying molly is good for your brain because i definitely didnt; i wanted to keep it in because it is extremely fun and has enhanced some great experiences/memories for me. it does have therapeutic benefit for complex PTSD and will soon be available in clinical settings for this, esp for veterans with C-PTSD from serving in active duty, because they have found ample enough evidence of its positive impact on the condition.
for shrooms and acid, yeah, ive said that hallucinogens can help repair neural pathways which has also been proven. i got called a nerd for linking studies and shit, but then even with linking them, you're like "you're the one arguingggg hallucinogens can be good for the brain" because yeah, it's been proven.

From the NIH: "We identified no associations between lifetime psychedelic use and either lifetime cancer diagnosis or hematologic cancer diagnosis. Sub-analyses of lifetime lysergamide, phenethylamine, and tryptamine use also revealed no associations with lifetime cancer or hematologic cancer diagnosis."

I’m just voting based on what’s the least fun and weed is the least fun here. Acid is also too crazy for me to do more than like once a year but i respect that tripping balls is actually such an insane experience.

you can also Google the health benefits and negatives of all of these and they all exist.
I will say I've drained exponentially more money on booze than anything else on this list. Worst bang for buck by a long shot
The problem with bars is that they’re a lot of fun in spite of the fact that you end up spending way too much there. They should invent a bar where you just buy a bit of molly upfront, buy nothing else the rest of the night, and then spend the next 8 hours annoying the shit out of your friends.

I've reframed my point / question a couple of times and I just don't know if there is a way for me to get it to land. But I'll try again.
I wonder how much damage (or assigned damage) would be done in the world and to people's brains from acid if there were north of 60 million people in the US alone that did 1-2 tabs, 3 times every week. If every social venue in america was created specifically for 1000 singles to meet up and do acid together late at night every weekend.
on L right now because just at the point in my life where it just doesn't do it for me anymore. it's boring doing it at home, I get too anxious doing it elsewhere.

I had to read that a couple times before I figured out you weren't currently tripping

i hear you and understand you -- no reframing needed. what I and a few others have tried to convey is that the primary point of comparison at this point in the game shouldnt be "which of these can you do in excess multiple times a week and still feel OK."
but if we are gonna compare weekly "moderate/smaller consumption" of alcohol vs shrooms/LSD, as someone else already pointed out you can absolutely microdose LSD or shrooms 3-4 times a week and be better for it. that seems a much more fair comparison to a similarly "very low risk of harm" consumption level of alcohol, having a small glass of wine with dinner a few times a week.
you keep pulling out this thing of "but could i take 4 tabs a week and go to work on that and what would happen?!" as for your last point, i mean most music festivals are in fact where "1000 people can meet up and do acid together" but since it is illegal, it has to be hidden and is harder to get, in comparison to the legal but v overpriced drinks you can freely order at that same festival.

i think maybe we are getting a bit tripped up by lumping all these different things into the broad category of "drugs" or "intoxicants". taking LSD or mushrooms is a fundamentally different thing then having a few drinks or tokes. you can have a drink or two or hit a vape pen and getting a little feel good going on then stop and take a shower and go to bed. there really isn't a corollary to that for tripping.
it's kind of like saying which is better, watching a movie or going to a music festival? obviously going to a music festival is a larger and richer experience, but it's not something you'd want to do every weekend. it takes time and energy. sometimes you just want to watch a movie instead you know? at your house.

Yes but I stand prepared to compare apples and oranges.

as is survivor tradition. i wouldn't have it any other way.

Also tbh because there’s more than the 10 people discussing in this thread voting it seems sort of obvious alcohol and weed would make the top 3 because they’re the most readily available. Thems the breaks.
