I am so hungover from my birthday dinner and then my 4 year old climbed into bed with us last night which she never does and pretty much kicked me and stole my blankets all night, and I am fucking struggling lol. Driving up the hotel soon and going to rally but it's a rough start. So excited for everybody here, this is going to be such an amazing weekend.

Some of us just stayed up til 4am after Soulwax and are struggling like NORMAL monsters (that sounds rough tho but also cute?)

Soulwax destroyed last night but that venue was a freaking sweat box. Moving from the intensity of Soulwax to Floating Points was tough. Volume at Floating Points wasn’t anywhere near the levels of Soulwax and it was pretty muffled in the back. We moved in close for John Talbot and the volume was significnatly better. Really enjoyed the hour of his set that I caught before tapping out for the night.
Boiler Room was a lot of fun last night. Fcuvkers were a great start, Jpeg was decent, and SG and Tove Lo were a big sweaty dance party. Peaches might’ve been the start of the night, though!

That’s great to hear, I’d seen some live videos of her this year that were not great lol.
Btw I’ll be wearing my unicorn horn and glossy hat today. U know where 2 find me
Having shit reception lol, maybe the worst of any festival I’ve been at in 10 years. It is also crazy fucking windy so I took off the horn. Still wearing my shiny silver hat and Ibibio sound machine shirt

As expected, a shit ton of amazing music.
VIP is a mess though, oversold, long lines just to get into the VIP areas when all you have to do is show a wristband, all the portapotties in both areas ran out of hand sanitizer and paper towels almost immediately. Really gross.
Way more crowded than last year in general, and the stage volume is so low that I actually took out my ear plugs at the end of the night. I know its for Alameda but still.
Still had the time of my life and so hyped for today.
Vip at the Warehouse was great; at every other stage - not so much. The music was worth it though. Soulwax lived up to the hype, Jessie Ware truly is mother. Natasha was a cleansing moment.
Yeah this VIP area was legitimately great, and useful. My brother and I cracked up the first time we used it though when we realized how far you had to go to get to the entrance.

Its crazy that pretty much any other Gv fest currently is guaranteed to have not so good sound except Coachella. Same sound systems and likely same engineers and its always meh.

Great first day. I figured VIP was oversold and as others have commented basically useless for the ship tent. We just went in GA for Joy Orbison and were packed like sardines. However, outside of Jamie XX I always felt like I had plenty of room in the VIP section for a sold out festival. Got forth row for Jessie Ware and she literally walk through my group of 4 while singing Cher. My spouse may never recover! Franc Moody was next to us at Four Tet and their drummer was going crazy the whole show it was fun. Definitely glad we swung for the VIP upgrade. Also because VIP is always in front of the speakers the sound always feels good to me.

Maybe a hot take but the time I spent in the warehouse sounded a lot better than the last couple of years? Turning the volume down a bit was good for the actual sound quality imo.
VIP at ship/crane sucked getting into but I had no issues once I was in. Def more crowded than the last two years on a whole though

I think my only Pier VIP shitshow was Rufus because that was fucking packed. Even Jamie xx I thought was packed but navigable, but Rufus was a mess. But, I don't want to harp on the negative or sound like I didn't enjoy myself, because overall that was a super fun day and today's lineup I like even better so I am extremely excited.

Jamie and Rüfüs made the day for me. Neil Frances was great, but my group was in a bad mood after getting crushed and shoved around for Joy Orbison so we didn’t have a great spot.
Interplanetary Criminal was ok, Mall Grab much better but they had the wrong visuals on for him? Lol
We didn’t make it to Soulwax or Gesa after the Joy Orbison/Neil Frances shitshow as we thought it was a waste of time running back and forth to Pier and Crane with the long ass VIP line to get into Pier

Wait that was throwing me off - was that actually mall grab playing with interplanetary criminal showing on the screens? Lol

Wait yes that confused me too. I left early because I did not get what was happening lol.

Mall Grab started very late. They had Interplanetary Criminal play longer until he got there
Getting home last night was probably the worst of any festival I’ve ever been to. The trains were insanely packed, the shuttle line was impossible, and the buses were overflowing to the point that they weren’t even stopping. We ended up walking about 2 miles before we could find an Uber for a decent price.

Definitely leaving early tonight
We just walked the 2 miles to the hotel. It wasn’t fun but ultimately was the best move. Already dreading that walk again tonight.

Threw a lil afters last night with LP Giobbi and I'm the most exhausted person on the planet. Hopefully see some of you at the Pier today, I'll be wearing a black and white LP Giobbi Femme House shirt (it's cold) Portola 2022 zip up w/ a clear backpack, and will be the guy who looks JUST TERRIBLE.
Panjabi Hit Squad -> Jersey -> LP Giobbi -> Busy P b2b Braxe + Falcon -> first 15 of Rebecca Black -> Barry Can't Swim -> either first 20 of Chase & Status or good spot for Disclosure -> M.I.A. -> Justice
