The xx probably get enough of a comeback bump that they could headline the majors, but the real question is would it be a temporary LCD thing or something that could plausibly last through 2034.

I think Gizz will headline Bonnaroo one day. A Phish type situation with multiple sets. Have already built up such a live following.
The XX would need to really deliver on their next album to get the bump above a sub. I could see them getting the RTTD type billing, but would need a really big hit or two to get above that. It also doesn’t seem to be a priority to any of the members, and all the bands from that era are trending downwards on fest placements.

actually, a more comparable act would be Pretty Lights. 2 marathon sets, one Thursday, one sunrise.
john summit has almost grown to headliner level in like 3 years
everything about the dude screams flash in the pan though, he's trendy right now but once the next big things happens he'll be forgotten just like every other DJ who just barely breaks through to headliner level (see Griz, Skrillex, Deadmau5, Diplo, Zedd, Marshmello, The Chainsmokers, etc). You really think he keeps this momentum up for the next decade?

these have all been huge for a decade+ at this point? worse case he'll take a break for 3 years and come back even bigger like pretty lights

I was ready to defend Lil Nas X as a future headliner, but surprisingly his new song has not been blowing up that much. He’s still got 4 5 billion stream songs, with Panini likely being a 6th, so I think it’s possible.
Would Lil Nas not be top 8 at Lolla this year if he had been booked? Doesn’t that make him a headliner already?
if the question was “who will be a headliner next year”, sure but his music just isn’t great and I don’t know anyone who actually listens to him. Every single he drops requires some fake controversy to stir up hype. The dude is 3 years away from being like a number 2 at whatever 96.1 Jingle Ball arena tour IHeartRadio wants to send to every arena in the country.

and none of them headline the big 4 festivals, which is the question at hand
