Imo this is where this game should stop thinking "who's up next?" and look more to the long term future. What will festivals look like in a decade? Will headliners be the biggest thing around, or will budgets drop? Will they go for established fanbases, or hotshot whoever is on the charts?
out of these four, the possibility of fading out is strongest with noah imo. theres no telling how long indie folk will keep having a moment and he could easily fall off in 10 years

Agreed. No one will remember Noah Kahan in 10 years.
The folk pop stuff has the most loyal crowd. We are well into decade 2 of Mumfords as headliners and I don't think they even release albums anymore.
Female solo stars have the most fickle audience because we, as a society, love to tear people down.
Honest question- what big fests have Mumford headlined lately? I thought they had slid into B tier headliner range but I also haven’t been following them closely

I think they headlined ACL last year while not really even promoting any discernible new material.
I guess I'm also going on the basis of the Lumineers playing stadiums (!?) last tour and Hozier playing sheds 10 years after the Take Me to Church song.
Not saying I understand society, just saying people love their folk pop.

ACL '23, we are stuck with them
There are going to be plenty of people online complaining about Noah Kahan headlining fests in 2034, but there will also be 25yos who are happy with it because they feel like they grew up with him.

I can’t hate on Noah after SK. He’s good live. He writes catchy songs, the band is good and he can sing it live. Going to be hard for him to mess this up.

maybe a hot take in a world where everything is changing, but i don't think the music festivals of summer 2034 will look that different from today. since the dawn of humanity we've enjoyed getting together and dancing to music and consuming intoxicants. think about what's changed in the past twenty years or so. yeah we have phones and more amenities, but at bonnaroo 2003 i was standing in a field staring at a stage listening to amplified music and i did the same thing last summer.
niche genre festivals will continue to pop up. most of them will fail, some will survive. smaller regional multi-genre festivals will continue to give it a go, some may find success with smart budgeting and bookings. coach, lolla, acl, jazzfest will still be around. bonnaroo is a tougher call, for real, being in the middle of nowhere doesn't have the appeal it for some reason did 20 years ago.
as to who they'll be booking in ten years we'll just have to wait and see the results of this survivor.
It's good Kacey got this far. She could outlast Kahan as a HL type ten years from now and I think she will but this is fair enough for what's left. The most egregious stuff already happened.

She does her thing. And I like it which is atypical
