Hate to admit it but I am addicted to java. I've never found a good solution to making coffee while camping. I've tried substituting Mountain Dew/Pepsi and it just doesn't do the trick. Is there a place at 'roo to get a cup? I am imagining a long line. Any other solutions? Has any body come across a decent way to make a cup while camping - like a batterey powered coffee pot or something? I've make instant on top of the camp stove but that wasn't the greatest. Thanks! Beth
I've tried a french-press for Nalgene bottles - best coffee I've ever had camping, bar-none! Just heat up some water on a stove, add coffee grounds (the good stuff, not instant) and the water to a Nalgene, insert the press, and push it to the bottom of the bottle. Then pour out a cup and get your Java freak on!
In Centeroo, at least last year, they had a small kiosk selling all types of coffee drinks (frozen too). Not any more than a Starf*cks either ($5 for a 16oz frozen caramel coffee - similar to a Frappachino).
That nalgene French press looks great! Wish I had known about it last year, I picked up a regular French press which works fine, but it's glass and needs to be handled carefully.
Have you seen the self-heating coffee you can buy now. No stove or coffee maker is required. There are several brands. Here's a link to the first one Google threw back at me.
Yay! The french-press is way cool. I've never seen that before. Thanks for sharing. Has anyone tried the self heating coffee? I am wondering if it's any good. Thanks for the info man!

if your a real coffee fan you might even give up you fancy brewing equipment and start only using the french press. I know my brother only uses that, somehting about the coffee is better..

The french press doesn't filter out the essential oils like using a paper coffee filter does. You can substitute a screen filter for the paper in a regular coffee maker for a similar effect. But the french press method is really minimalist and kind of fun (except for cleaning out the press & container).
That's one of the reasons expresso has such a full flavor (that and they use steam instead of hot water).

I know that some major coffee brands make special camping coffe thingies, that are basically the same as a tea bag, but with coffee inside instead of tea. I've had this a few times and I thought it was great, though I'm not a huge coffee person, I like a good espresso rather more.

My wife likes to use those coffee bags. They contain about 1/2 instant and 1/2 grounds, so it's definitely a blend between instant and brewed. Very convenient!

Yeah, i was going to mention these. THEY ARE GREAT!!! all you need is hot water, and whatever else you desire in coffee. They really are good, as long as you leave them in the water long enough. It might look black enough, but it still might be tooooo weak
last year i brought my camping perculator, and it worked well on a small propane stove.. had a fresh strong pot every morning .. worked well for me.. and i shared w/ my neighbors..)
the real coffees in centeroo in the tent across from brooers tent, its pretty cheap from what i remember and its not bad either, ill see u there in the morning, its not busy till 11:30 or so when centeroo picks up and bands get ready!! they have some good eats too!!
I just tried to quit the coffee and I totally gave up after three days of intense headaches in the afternoons. (ugh i'm such an addict) So, seeing how I don't want to experience those at roo and I don't plan on cooking AT ALL at the fest, I tried to find the self-heating coffee at K-mart (where it's supposedly sold) yesterday to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to look for those suckers in the NYC area?
ETA: oh, and i'm lazy as hell, so i don't want to walk all the way to centeroo for a damn cup of coffee

Yea, I'm trying to find a battery-powered coffee maker that heats the water w/ the battery power b/c I dont' want to bring a stove if I can help it. Anyone heard of such a thing?
Yeah, in my experience (last 2 years) we were never that far from a vendor selling coffee. If you're a real coffee addict, you might want to bring something to make coffee just in case, but it was never a problem for me to walk a couple minutes and buy a cup when I wake up.

At one festival where I camped by the car, I brought my coffee maker. I turned my car on for a few minutes each morning and plugged in the coffee maker to an inverter that runs off my car battery. I stored the coffee in a thermos.
We have a lexan french press that made it's debut at Wakarusa last year, and it rocked! My wife bought it for me, I think it was from Gander Mountain. Now I don't camp without it!
We'll be bringing a two burner stove and a french press. We'll be up in the morning making coffee, possibly breakfast, and definitely bloody mary's.
We're camping in VIP. Anyone there, feel free to stop in for a cup of camp coffee. I think I'll have to go without my regular half and half as I'm sure dairy and 4 days in the TN sun don't make a good combo.
Yeah, I'm jonesing for a french press, but they ain't got none at my Wal-Mart.
I haven't shopped at a Wal-Mart in years and refuse to step foot in one. That said, they're not the only store. Target up the street from us had a french press for $20. We'll be trying it out for the first time at roo.

I love my french press; it's stainless steel, so it won't break and it keeps the coffee warm. I'm still thinking about running my coffee pot off the car battery with my little inverter.
I currently don't own a camp stove, and I was thinking about eating food that does not require a lot of cooking at my site, and then supporting my friend who will be selling food.
