Does anyone know how many tix they are selling this year? I have heard that they greatly increased the number of available tix from previous years, somewhere in the neighborhood of 125,000-150,000. Does anyone know if this is true?
I don't remember the articles exactly, but there have been a few I have read that stated the ticket sales this year would be 90,000. They could be wrong also.
I also remember seeing some sort of official statement that they would be selling 90,000 tickets. According to Superfly, this is the same amount that they sold last year. Of course there were people who claimed (from aerial estimates I think) that there were 120,000 people in attendence last year.
I'm not very good at estimating crowds, but if the first year was 70,000 and the second year was 80,000 (these were the number of tickets sold), then I think last year had to be over 100,000.
I don't think Bonnaroo could logistically get much bigger than last year, and it seems by announcing that they are selling the same number of tickets they are acknowledging this. My hope is that the attendence may get a bit smaller with the same number of tickets sold and better control of non-ticket holders getting in or whatever it was that inflated the attendence vs. tickets sold numbers last year, but we'll have to see.
I really hope it's not more than 90,000. The second year was great and last year you could tell it's getting too big. Not necessarily because there isn't room but it just takes away from our enjoyment of the festival. The more people there are the more great artists they have to put at the same time to control the crowds. Not to mention longer lines and walks. I love bonnaroo but with this krewe of roo bullshit it seems like they are just worried about money. Bonnaroo was the one event that showed everyone that you can have a larg scale festival and everyone can get along without riots and fires and shit. I would just hate to see that change. Sorry if this turned into a negative post. I just hate to see something so great start to head downhill.
I read (but of course now can't find) an article that said they're sticking with 90K. Agreed that hopefully they can get a handle on "freebie/gate crashers" to keep the quantity truly to 90K. In searching for the article that confirmed quantity of tix for sale, I found the following, which seems to reflect that the quantity of bands will be smaller this year (from www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000767238): >>> Edited By Jonathan Cohen. Bonnaroo Sets Initial 2005 Lineup
The Dave Matthews Band, Modest Mouse, Joss Stone and Toots and the Maytals are among the first acts confirmed for Tennessee's fourth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Set for June 10-12, the event will return to a 700-acre farm in Manchester, about 60 miles south of Nashville, to present more than 60 artists on multiple stages. …
Bonnaroo 2004 was the second-highest-grossing concert of the year, according to Billboard Boxscore, taking in $14.5 million for a lineup that included the Dead, Dave Matthews & Friends, Trey Anastasio, Bob Dylan and nearly 80 other acts. >>>
Wonder if the quantity of acts will indeed be fewer? I wouldn't mind, as I had to miss a lot of good shows last year -- or see partial shows -- because of the number of acts on all 5 stages.
My boyfriend saw Ashley Capps (of AC Entertainment) on CNN, and he said they were planning on keeping both ticket sales and artists at about the same level they were last year.

Interesting 2004 stat:
"The Red Hot Chili Peppers, with James Brown and Chicks On Speed, headlined the top engagement at the year, three nights at London's Hyde Park that grossed $17,187,324 and drew more than 258,000 June 19, 20 and 25."
