Hey guys and gals, First of all cant wait to see you all there! yes yes, only one month!! Just wondering if getting there as soon as the gates open will pay off in getting a closer car campsite.
Historically, it has been exactly the opposite. You hear about exceptions every so often, but generally speaking, the earlier you get there, the farther away you're going to end up. That said, I was a little closer to Centeroo in 2004 driving in there at 1:00 am on Thursday, than 10:00 am last year.
We arrived on wednesday the last 2 years. I do not think that it was that bad of a walk back and fourth. Arriving early, you can get set up and rested by the time the festivities are starting up, you are not rushing to get settled. I like to get situated, get to know the neighbors, and the layout and be ready to go when thursday night comes around. So we like to get there early. Plus last year, I think we partied harder on wednesday night then the rest of the time. Early for us is the way to go. No stress then.....enjoy the Roo.
plu swhen you have one of those BFE spots = there are really nice neighbors on the farms next door that will let you cut through their field to get to the highway on Monday

I've never stayed in BFE, so I don't have the best perspective, but I dunno how it could be better. If you're closer, you can come back to camp b/t sets (or more often in general), you waste less energy walking, and you can hear the main stage well from your camp. We've always left on Monday morning, and have never had ANY trouble getting out of 'roo in more than 5 minutes using the main exit, so I dunno what the big deal is about cutting thru a farm to get to the highway.

Yeah i cant imagine there being ANYTHING "better" about being centuries away from centeroo... If you dont mind it and make it work for you thats cool but its so damn far away... Keep in mind that waiting in the traffic line to get in isnt really that bad, you might wait all afternoon or whatever(at most) but its bearable, alot of people i talked to the past two years said they practically rolled right in... I think trying to "beat the rush" is pretty over rated, especially when they stick you in BFE... Bonnaroo is a VERY well laid out festival, just be patient and you'll get there...

Werd, Lucid. I'd add that, even if you get there Thurs. morning (which is my plan, always end up close), and you sit in traffic & don't get parked until like 2-3pm, you'll be set up by 4pm-5pm, and still have like 4 hours to get oriented, meet neighbors, have a beer, etc. before ANYTHING starts in Centeroo at all.

I camped in BFE last year and part of the benefit, for me at least, are the memories that resulted from walking to and from centeroo. Also, it seems kind of like a seperate private camping area since you must basically walk through the woods to get there. You and all those around you in BFE are out there, on your own, kind of secluded, with forest surrounding all, like an island of people. Something creates nostalgia for BFE, at least for me. Some feeling of pride, accomplishment, uniqueness. I dunno, just my .02. Again, I have nothing to compare it to since I haven't camped any closer, and yes I admit I would like to see how it is being camped 5 minutes away from centeroo.
Ok, so my friend and I are arriving by Greyhound bus, and most likely will walk the few miles to Bonnaroo from the station, but we are waiting to know what day and time would be the best to arrive. So far it seems like Thursday is the best day, but I couldn't really tell if morning, noon, or afternoon would be better. I assume we won't have to deal with the traffic since we would be walking in, so I'm kind of lost as it comes closer for me to buy my bus tickets.

Well if you're coming in by bus, you will be camping in the tent only area right? As far as I can tell (haven't been to 'roo yet) there's just one big tent only section, so I imagine it wouldn't matter too much when you came? I could certainly be wrong though...guess i'll let the vets give you a more definate answer
Awesome! Thank you so much! Prior to last week I had no idea people arrived the day before the show (Thurs)! Are there any performances or anything Thursday night, or is just partying?
Post by sawgrass17 on May 17, 2006 13:12:31 GMT -5
A bit of both. Thursday is when you just cant stop smiling. It all begins to set in and the switch is flipped. Roo mode i guess you can call it. Get to know your neighbors and familirize (sp) yourself with your surroundings. Go ahead and get fully set up. Have a blast!

I came by bus the past two years and it definately doesnt matter when you show up if you're going to be walking in... Anytime thursday during daylight will be fine... You'll probably even find a ride from some locals right from the bus station to the gate for $5 or so...
Have some water handy for the walk from the gate to tent only cuz it will be hot as hell and its a decent hoof... Get a pack cover or use waterproof stuff sacks for your stuff in case its pouring when you gotta hike in... Go to tent only, set up, chill out... There are a few shows on Thursday night but nothing too major, definately some stuff to check out and get familiar with centeroo though...

If by BFE you mean Bum Fuggin Egypt, then I'll say that I had a great time in BFE...Besides the 1 hour walk(sometimes 1 and a half at night searching for "red and green moons" with a head full of...unsoberness) it was nothing but wonderful.
Wouldn't mind to be a little closer, but make the most of it where ever you end up.

got there at 6am friday in 07'. not by any means, early but we were still in the far back. about a 45 minute walk. Friday, got lost, I think the walk back from STS9 was all in all about 2 1/2 hours. All very good times Although the feet didnt agree.
I always get there about 8am Thursday and have gotten decent sites. Odds are though that the earlier you arrive the further away you are. I did a survey and a chart on a thread somewhere that demonstrated this. But there are always exception.
I've known people to arrive on Friday and be in BFE on Brushy Branch too so I just say get there when you get there and hope for the best.
A lot of people like being far away for the shade and quiet.

In '06, we arrived at 6:00 am Thursday. We were lead to the camp behind the wooded area to the left of centeroo... about a 15 minute walk.
Last year, my friends (a group of 11, that left a day before us) got there on Wednesday for the Wal Mart crowd, and said it was only worth it for the social at Wal Mart, and early phase Roo. When they were allowed onto the farm, they got put pretty far out, about 25 minutes toward the highway from Centeroo.
And, finally, me and my friend's girlfriend got there at 10:00 pm thursday night. We were parked RIGHT on the outskirts of the interstate. So we walked to our friend's spot...
My assumption would be to get there between Dawn and Noon, Thursday.

the graph is awesome.... Last year we got in around 9 or so, right as the sun was setting because we were RUSHING like hell to get everything put up before the last of the light was gone, then we went right to Rodrigo y Gabriela. I hope they come back.
Oh, and does where you come in (ie Highway or Bushy Branch) have an impact at all of whether you get placed in BFE or not?

great question. We were in the line straight off the highway.

we came in on 24-south, passed ROO, went about 10 exits down, exited, and took back roads for a few miles and wound up in the tolls by camp austin powers

Doesn't Bushy Branch empty into the 'Roo lot right in BFE? I would think that if you entered right next to BFE then you would be put right there so people wouldn't be driving everywhere.
First of all when does the exit from the highway open up? Secondly, has anyone entered from the highway and made to drive all the way to BFE?
