I'm an Ambien girl on any day and do the same at Roo. However, I found that sleeping at any time while the sun was up nearly impossible with the heat - no amount of Ambien helps with the heat. This year I hope that lots of fans help.
It's prescription and fairly expensive @ $90 per month = $3 per pill. I love it, though, because when I take one, it only takes 10 minutes and I'm out.
I catch an occasional nap in the midday laying out in centeroo. It's a good way to recharge for me, and I've usually worn myself out from the morning (I start the party at sun-up) that I don't have a problem dozing off for a sec. I just find a chill act that would be great to hang in the back, listening to their tunes while dozing in and out. Don't ever try to rest in the 30min-hour downtime before the late night acts though - you just gotta keep the party going strong!

lol.. im bad so dont follow my example.. but. i took half a xanax and half an ambien before sleep last year and it worked perfecto for me. (both legal prescrips in my name thank ya)
On the staying up side of it, I drink lots of Sugar Free Red Bull at home. The down-side of Red Bull, though, is that it can sometimes leave you draggy when it wears off. Definitely don't want it to take the place of tons and tons of water, which is much more important if you want to keep going.
WHATEVER you do, make sure not to take too much xanax or benzo's and such (especially if you are drinking) or else you will not wake up for many many hours.
One Tylenol PM before I go to sleep, don't take 2 they will make you groggy in the am...It doesn't knock you out just helps you stay asleep. It will make you tired but it takes an hour....

I take Melatonin (3-5mg) before I hit the sack every night because I have sleep problems. I'm planning on bringing some to 'roo for me and my fiance. It is completely healthy for you, your brain produces melatonin (the juice in your brain that makes you sleep) and this way you're creating more for yourself and upping your chances of a better sleep. One of those gets me to sleep fast and keeps me asleep, it doesn't even make me groggy in the morning. You can get them at Whole Foods if you have one of those around you.

^^^ Prelude's right. This stuff works. The kind I have is like 1.5mg, I think, and it's loaded w/ Niacin and some B vitamin as well. Very useful - but as the bottle says, don't take it unless you have 7-8 hours to devote to sleep.
I could use some of that right now. I work overnights, and I'm usually asleep by now. But I think I'm too excited from buying all my Bonnaroo stuff this morning, and Radiohead tomarrow, and Rogue Wave on Saturday. I should stop posting and try sleeping again.

Melatonin is not that expensive, as far as I know. No real need to get it online, you can get a big bottle at Walgreens or whatever. Make sure to check out the mg dosage, too. They usually come in 1 or 3mgs. 3 is better, there is no need realy to take more than one of those, though being able to take one or two is nice if you just want to take a quick nap. The cool thing about melatonin is the lack of grogginess in the morning because it resets your sleep cycle. Its not nearly as powerful as, say, Ambien, so its not guaranteed to knock you out, but it certainly helps
Man those prescription sleep aids sure are sketchy....
I agree I sleep with earplugs and if you really need it I suggest just taking a allergy medication that causes drowsiness like benadryl. *Benadryl doesn't cause drowsiness in everybody*

No sh*t -- it makes me feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin!

I'm just lazy -- that's the only reason I'm looking on eBay. I'll try to run by Walgreens today. I need to stock up on vitamins anyway.

I never have to much problem sleeping, but what keeps me Really Really awake is 24 hour allergy meds. I dunno if they work for anyone else but they are over the counter and long lasting. Clerinex-D 24hr or Cleritin-D work pretty good. Just look for the *Pseudo-ephedrine dosage (60mg/120mg/240mg)* It's time released so it literally take around 3 solid hours till it starts working in strong but then it works for around six hours, so it would be ideal to take'em around 4 or 5 in the late afternoon so you can easily stay up for the late shows.... The only downside is that it leaves you a lil bitterly when it wears off,(Uncle Herb has the remedy for that!)and it does make you tired and ready for sleep so it's yer upper and yer downer. Take 60mg and ya really don't notice anything for awhile except an enthusiasm boost, Take 120mg and you get noticeable awakeness ... 240mg is pretty strong for me, and i wouldn't take any more than 480mg(two-24hr pills) cus then it makes you overly-jittery and really won't help yer cause. It's best to take'em progressively so the body doesn't get used to the dosage. Again I may just be the only person who's body converts allergy meds into energy so if it don't work for ya i'm sorry(smoke some crack)

I decided today that I'm going to stop on the way down to Manchester around 11 PM on Wednesday night in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and get 5 hours of sleep in a hotel before I make the back end of the trip to Manchester. I'll be rested, drive the last two hours, and pull up to the Wal Mart around 6:40 AM to meet my buddy who is coming from Boston and get in line right on the dot at 7 AM.
Last time I drove all the way through the night on Wednesday and just ended up being exhausted by the time I arrived, didn't really sleep until about 2:30 AM that night, and ended up crashing by mid-afternoon on Saturday when it started to rain, and sleeping through a couple of great sets because I hadn't played it cool and kept up on sleep. There are not many sets I feel I can miss this year, so I need to do it right. Plus, since I'm driving alone, I think I need to stop just to make sure I can stay awake at the wheel for the whole trip.
I bought some 3mg tablets of melatonin and it helped get me a little drowsy.
I slept soundly, so that's a good sign. I'll keep taking it up through Roo. The fact that it's not too strong, has major B6, anti-oxidant, and calcium benefits, it's hard to really see the downside to something like it.

Downside: Sleeping aids are the number one cause of insomnia. Whatever you do, do NOT get into a habit of taking pills to sleep on a regular basis
