Well, with tickets in hand, I guess it's time to get over the excitement and start actually getting ready. We're pitching our tent in the backyard tonight and are gonna hang out with a cooler full of beer, cook some food over the camp stove, and sleep in our new cots (oh they're so comfy ) just to get used to the heat (live in Dallas, so it's hot here).
We might even decide to bring the cats camping with us for the first time
Any other ideas about how we might simulate the roo environment (without getting arrested doing it that is)?
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
We bought new tent and shower tent and I put them up last week.....wanted to know how, before I got there and could hardly think straight....cant wait to get there

My suggestion would be to leave a kitties out of it. I was setting up my new tent up a couple weeks ago and my cat was genuinely interested in what I was doing and she went inside. I couldn't help but think that she's gonna claw the walls or something, causing the tent to become "not-so-waterproof". I don't want to have any leaks just because of my cat!
i set up my tent for practice in my shoebox of an apartment last nite, it's a small tent, but i had to crawl over my bed and hurdle my tv to get it up, and with nothing to put the stakes in, i had to use my imagination for the finished product.
(completely unreleated, but out of 1500 hours of music, the o-head song shadow of a man came on for the first time in ages as i was typing this, followed by acdc bag)
We've officially made it through our first night outside during the summer in Texas in a long time. Although it was in out backyard, it was still a great learning experience. I made myself a really cool tent fan frame today to complete the setup and got out the camera. If anyone wants to see or wants a solution to how to place your tent fans in your tent, check out the report on the link below (I couldn't figure out the image thing here)...
those cots look amazingly comfortable... how much would one of those run?
I picked them up at Bass Pro Shops for $60 each. They're the Bass Pro Shops brand and are the extra large versions. I think they're 36" wide. They are also really easy to setup. We had some Coleman foam pads that we used under our sleeping bags before. They're nice with the cot too as they make it more firm, but if I were buying something new, I'd get one of those self inflating mats that go for $15-20.
I think we're headed back out to the backyard after the Mav's game (well, hopefully it's their game). I was really amazed that the cots were so comfortable. I'm really looking forward to roo now
Look beside the chairs in the grass. They'll be coming with us as well to help contain bugs
Mavs won, so we're off to the backyard for another night of "camping"
Oh yeah, almost forgot. We found the website of the company for the tent fans, it's www.o2-cool.com. We also bought some of the small handheld mister fans that only use a single AA battery and were like $3 at Academy. I think back on how much more confortable those would have made Coachella this year.
How many hours do you think you will get off one set of batteries for the fans? I couldn't find anything on the fan website.
I don't know for sure yet. We used them for a few hours during the day on High (they're two speed) and all through the night Saturday on Low. The batteries never ran out. My guess is that there's at least 12 hours of High battery, but that's only a guess. They each take 2 D batteries.
If you can get past the waste factor, there's really cheap D batteries at Big Lots. We stocked up. They're $.88 a 4 pack. Basically, $.44 to run the fan for 12 hours is nice.

i love it. we set up our tent and sun shade the other day outside of our apartment building. some people were having a cook out and thought we were crazy. we set up and took down in about 15 minutes, just a practice run!
I was just commenting to my wife this morning about how much more comfortable I feel that we're ready for our first roo after setting everything up in the backyard and living in it for a few days. I found a number of things we needed to bring that I wouldn't have thought of. Basically, anything we used over the weekend was set aside to make the trip with us.
There's a weekend upon us. If you haven't tried out your setup or are unsure about what you should bring, I highly recommend giving it a test run, if only for the piece of mind during the drive to Manchester. I hate the constant "I know I forgot something" feeling.

Exactly...we have gone camping 3 times in the last 2 months just to get some practice in. Every time we get back, I'm off on another shopping trip and the pile of stuff to bring to roo gets bigger in my living room. The last thing you want to do is have to buy alot of stuff at the general store when you get there. You know what your mom always told ya, practice makes perfect

No battery operated fans at Academy in Cool Springs, Tennessee. No worries though, we'll just go to plan b. We did camp out in our den last weekend though -- tent and all.

they have battery operated fans at target and (ugh) wal mart for about 11 dollars. i hope that they help me sleep in the tent. the night weather seems like it will be nice though, mid 60's.

what were some of the things you need to bring that you didn't think of before? for the rest of us
i have a dog and two cats coming in and out of the backyard and couldn't leave my tent up long enough to camp out
Well, when I pulled my tent out, one of the ends for the fly cover was ripped where the pole is supposed to be held. I got some strapping tape and scissors from the garage and went to work. They will be coming along.
Extra sheets are really nice to hang from the shade tent during the morning and afternoon when the sun's not directly above.
Can coolers are a must have
Plastic pint glasses for the Bodingtons
I'm drawing a bit of a blank at the moment, but I'll post more if more comes to mind.
I bought the exact sme tent and just finish setting up in the back yard. For 20 bucks i say it is great. I set the thing up myself so it should be no problem dont at the Roo.

Just picked one up today - thanks again for the tip. There was a guy who was about 60 in bass pro shops laying on the set up cot and talking about how comfortable and roomy it was....
And now you're throwing Boddington's into the setup! You guys are definitely rolling in style...
