Out of curiosity, what type of tent do you have, what do you think is the best out there for Roo and how much are they?
I have mine, but I'm curious what others got going. For me, I spent 80 at KMart and got a First-Up by Northwest Territories. Only my wife and I...It's kind of small tho, don't know how it'll feel when the heat starts rising....7' X 9' with a 60 inch midheight I think.
I spent like $140 on a Sierra Designs Sirius tent last yeah and I LOVE it. I think it'll hold up like a champ this year at Bonnaroo. I love all the ventilization it has...
I think I'm going to bring my small well ventilated halfdome rei tent and stick it under a 10'x10' canopy. I might bring a self standing hammock also if I can find one for the right price between now and 'roo.
We paid like $48 at Academy for our 10' x 12' tent, can't remember the brand at the moment but I think it's Timbercreek. It's a little rough around the edges, but is nice and roomy. It's never been in the rain, so that should be interesting.
The one thing I learned the last time we went camping with some serious campers is that the nicer tents are much better in lots of areas... setup, material that doesn't rip, ventilation, weather, inside headroom, etc. If we could afford it, I'd be buying a better tent before roo, but that would cut into spending money for roo.
The one thing we did splurge on is our cots. After going camping with the serious campers, we were sold that cots = way better than a sleeping back and foam pad on the ground. We tested them last weekend for the first time and I've honestly never thought I could sleep through the night outside and wake up feeling good in the morning. I was glad to be proven wrong.
Nice pics babel. I think that's the same tent I bought... notice anything that needs to be done to it, for it to be AOK?
I've set it up twice now and not really noticed anything. However, I did pick up some different stakes than the plastic ones it comes with. I think theres 10 slots for stakes and you may need all of them. If the ground is hard, the plastic ones are crap.
I've had issues with the poles collapsing in a bit rather than arc'ing up. The first time I setup there were trees around so some tie lines out to the trees kept it up. In the backyard pictures, I just fussed with it a bit and got it somewhat stable. We've actually been lazy and not taken it down yet (will this evening though, the lawn needs water). I did put some waterproofing spray on it as well just to play it safe.
My guess, if the weather gets bad, I'm screwed and may be finding myself asleep in the car (until it turns into a sauna during the sunlight hours).

I'm convinced I'm going to get there and lose something that will prevent me from even putting the tent up. That's why I'm trying the First up since allegedly everything is one piece.
I'll find out tomorrow when I try a test run with it.
We just bought an Eddie Bauer six-person tent. It has a tarp floor, and the windows are so huge it almost turns into a screen tent. We figured that would make it much more comfortable in the mornings. There will be three of us sleeping in it, using air mattresses and thermarests. I hope it holds up with water, but just in case, we bought a cheap tarp if things go south.
If you can I highly suggest getting a tarp or something to hang over your tent, if you can angle it so it blocks the sun in the morning you might be able to get an extra hour or 2 of sleep.
is it like torrential rainfall, or would standard waterproof outdoor gear work well?
It all depends on old Mom Nature. Past couple of years there's been some serious storms at 'roo. Right now in east TN it's been very very nice.... which makes me worried. Bottom line, pitch your tent in your yard, turn the sprinker on for about an hour and she if she's still dry inside, you'll probably be ok. Make sure you stake your tent down well, you don't want to have this; poorvin.com/leo/bonnaroo2005/pages/CIMG0667.htm poorvin.com/leo/bonnaroo2005/pages/CIMG0670.htm
