This is our first year at Roo.. my husband and I are flying from Alberta Canada and we are beyond excited. We unfortunately couldn't camp (logistics and planes) but we are doing the hotel/shuttle thing. I'm pregnant and my biggest worry is getting food!! Yummy nutritrious food for my baby.. we are both vegan.. can anyone tell me what kind of vendors they have? Thanks! See you at Roo!
Is your baby vegan? If by some strange chance that your unborn baby hasnt fully decided whether or not it wants to be vegan maybe you should give it some meat. Check the number of meat chewing teeth to the number of plant chewing teeth in your mouth.
Sorry for my sarcasm along with sticking my nose in but I had a friend lose their baby due to poor diet from a vegan/raw foods deal.
I've posted elsewhere about it, but seems relevant here too...
We went to Coachella this year and ran into a vegan/organic foods vendor that had awesome smoothies, salads, and granola crunch type stuff. We mentioned going to Bonnaroo and he replied "I'll see you there" I can't for the life of me remember the name of the vendor, but I'm sure they at the least will be there. I'm also quite sure they won't be the only ones.
I was vegan during my last pregnancy. I had my baby boy October 21st 2005....he was 10lbs. 3oz. I don't think my vegan diet hurt him at all. I also don't think that a vegan diet can make someone lose their baby. I was reassured during my pregnancy that everything would be perfectly fine concerning my diet and my doctors were never suggesting I start eating meat. Women have miscarriages all the time....and 1 out of 3 women have one...and I don't see how any doctor can find an exact cause to it....or how they could blame it on diet. I'll be looking for vegan vendors myself. Good luck with your pregnancy!

I can easily see how you can be a vegetarian while pregnant and easily have a very healthy baby, but a vegan is a whole different story. I'm no nutritionist, and probably very biased because i love eating meat (maybe i should get back to the "not the email i want to see thread") but vegans do cut huge amounts of nutrition from their diet. I imagine eating the right vitamin supplements and stuff might work, but I can imagine that it wouldn't be too rare to see unhealthy babys born from vegans.
Sorry for speculating about your friend who had a miscarriage.....I just didn't want sessions to get freaked out by your suggestion that your friend lost her baby due to diet. I meant no disrespect....but I know first hand about babies...and diets.

Really? What a coincidence. Maybe I met you. I was really big into the whole baby scene; breast feeding, crying, hand painting, you know the regular stuff.
You know...I'm really from Brockton Mass. I moved to Tennessee 9 years ago...so It's very possible that I may have seen you around the playground. By the way...I did not choose to move here...I was just 14 and following my parents. I miss Mass.
It's funny how all I asked was if there would be food available, and instead I got some ignorant comment about whether my baby should be vegan or not. Kayla, thank you for your kind words of wisdom, please don't apologize to Jason for possibly offending him, because he completely and utterly offended me. Jason, you need to educate yourself, you sound like an ignorant caveman with that comment. It sounds like your friend didn't educate herself, didn't get proper protein and didn't eat properly. I have two beautiful neices and nephews who are born and raised vegan, and they are completely healthy happy children who understand that they do not need to "eat their friends" in order to be a healthy happy human beings. I have been vegetarian for over 5 years, vegan for over 1, and I'm used to the ignorant comments from uneducated people, but it doesn't frustrate me any less. You go on eating growth hormones, bacteria and antibiotic filled meat Jason, and I'll eat my yummy tofu and spinach Me, both my babies, and Thom Yorke that is (a fellow vegan)

Kayla, i'm originally from philly, just up in Boston for school, so i guess we had no playground rondezvous
Sessions, .... while Jason may or may not be accurate on his information, I wouldn't turn around and insult him for saying something solely based on good intentions. Maybe he didn't say the most polite thing, but it was, in fact, an attempt to make sure that you're unborn child is born healthy. As with most people who are any sort of minority, you will have to learn that not everyone is out to get you or judge you, and some people are just trying to do what they think is the right thing, even if they dont present themselves properly
Yea Im the ignorant one. Do you usually call strangers that you know nothing about uneducated or just the ones that dont agree with you? By the way I even said that I was being sarcstic in my post. I hope your good will towards others and kind nature take you far not only at Bonnaroo but everywhere else in life.
Hell we need more people like you in this world. You know the kind that force their beliefs onto children. That is what your doing right? Once again sarcasm or just being an ass you be the judge.
I could give a damn if you eat dirt, plants, animals, or people. I was just putting my opinion and experiences out there. Didnt realize that you were so much better than me. Make sure they let you park high horses at bonnaroo. You plant murderer!

Good luck to you and the baby! Americans have such a difficult time wrapping their heads around not eating meat. It engrained in our lazy, obese culture. I am sure that there will be pleanty of options to eat at the main vending area, and then you have the smaller vendors also. You could always come by my tent and have some fruit!
Post by bohemianboy on Jun 9, 2006 11:29:23 GMT -5
Hey now, no need to insult us meat eaters. Judging is judging, it doesn't matter what side of the issue you're on. I may be lazy and eat meat, but i'll be damned if someone tries and tells me i'm obese!!!
I'm a little overweight and have been veggie (certainly not vegan -- vegans are nuts ) for just under five years. I don't necessarily do it for all the popular reasons, nor do I eat incredibly healthy. It feels right for me and that's all I really care about. While I may cringe a little inside when I see "juice" running down someone's chin after a big meaty bite, I'm not going to say anything or judge that person.
Jason man, do you usually go around making incredibly rude comments about miscarriages to pregnant mothers? The 'sarcasm' footnote doesn't make it right and for you to try and turn it around after they respond as any mother would is kind of ridiculous. Is it a habit of yours to stick your nose into every matter you don't agree with? To me, that seems as equally annoying as somebody pushing their beliefs on someone else.

Good intentions is saying it kindly. Anyone whose ever known anyone pregnant, knows better than to say something like "my friend LOST their baby due to poor diet/vegan foods". It was neither sound or kind advice. I'm not sure what was meant by that, but you sure don't say things like that to a pregnant woman. I think as far as him making sure I have a healthy baby is nice, but the one person on this earth who wants and needs to make sure her baby is healthy is the baby's MOTHER. Do you think I would honestly put my child at risk without endless research, naturopath visits, midwife advice etc, etc? And no Jason, I do not call strangers uneducated, nor the ones that don't agree with me, just the ones who make silly comments like the one about the teeth. As weak arguments go for the meat eating side, that is probably the weakest.
Back to your comment about your friend, it is sad that she lost her child, but again, she did not lose her child because she didn't eat meat. Plain and simple.

I got an idea! Lets just take the advice is of John Lennon and give peace a chance . I wish the best of luck to you and your unborn baby, remember to stay hydrated and dont push yourself too hard! Not even Oysterhead is worth harming your pregnant body! Just promise me one thing, make sure you bring your kid up listening to good music, and I guess you should make sure s/he is tolerent and kind person, but most importantly, good music!!

aquariumdrunk, i know what you mean, i am not exactly a healthy eater myself, the beer and pizza tend to be an addiction for me. i am a vegertarian for many reasons, but i still love my junkfood sometimes.

This is the important good vibe quote of the day!!!

I too am a vegan, and have not eaten meat in over 5 years, being a vegan requires being VERY EDUCATED on the issue. So in my years of research I would have to side with Sessions on this one if a pregnant woman eats 3 square meals a day (humans need less than 50 grams of protien a day and a pregnant woman needs about 60) including leafy greens and nuts and seeds the statistics show she will have a very healthy baby, in most cases more healthy than a non vegan baby. So lets not stray from the original question: Yes Sessions there should be plenty of Vegan food available, but its not a bad idea to come prepared, just in case... Everyone else should lighten up and try to be POSITIVE. In one week we will all be partying it up TOGETHER. PEACE!!!
I'm in the vegetarian but not healthy food camp. I do a lot of cooking of stuff good for you, but I also love me some good ole greesy food. My wife and I have a dream of later in life opening a veggie bar/venue/restaurant that serves unhealthy veggie food like the best cheese fries in town
Like I said...I had a Big baby...they called it "macrosomia". Usually it only happens in moms who are seriously overweight or moms who have diabetes. I had neither....I somehow managed to just....have a big baby (10lbs 3oz). I was vegan....but oreos are vegan!...I also ate a crap load of pita bread pizza with soy cheese. You can have a perfectly healthy...and then some....baby while being vegan. My two daughters were born...while I was a meat eater...and they weighed 6 lbs..and 7lbs. I think that's...quite odd. You really do have to educate yourself...when you become vegan. It isn't that hard to accomplish though. My 2 little girls...are vegetarians.... they are both healthy...and my children have made the decision not to eat meat.
Aquarium I guess I'm just a dick. Does that make it better?
In all honesty I wasn't trying to be. I was just being upfront and honest. I know someone that lost a baby due to a poor diet and vegan/raw diet. Simple as that. Is that the kind of thing you just shouldn't say ever to anyone? She is pregnant and vegan. I wasn't cursing her or wishing anything bad just telling her something I have experienced. I wasn't coming down on her way of life in any way, you can be vegan till the cows stay home. I considered it no different then any other info you would tell someone. If I saw someone buying a car I had a friend die in I would tell them that.
Sorry for my poor attempt at kindness.
now my second post that one was more meant to be a little rude. But the original not at all.
Maybe I'm just crazy from all this toxin filled meat. I mean I have eaten one of these. almost one
