Hey, this is my first time going, and first time on the board. Real quick, I have to be back in Chicago by 1pm on Monday, I leave for Greece on vacation (its going to be a very tiring experience). I want to make sure I don't miss my flight, but want to maxamize my time at Bonnaroo of course. Is it hard to get drive out/ how how long does it typically take to get out? I am thinking of leaving at around 5 or 6 pm on Sunday afternoon... to be safe. Any input?
While I'm asking, I may as well ask, I am going just down with my girlfriend (our friends are lame), would it be better to tent only, or car camp ya think? We won't have too much stuff, so I guess which is best time for two first timers? Thanks for the help.
last year we left on sunday nite before panic. i wanted to stay but my buddy didn't want to fight the traffic on monday morning. we made it out no problem
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
You should be fine leaving around 5 - 6. We typically head out around 8-9 on Sunday, and at the worst took about an hour to get offsite. Most of the time it's 30mins or less.

Try your best to get parked on a main asile if you car camp. there is a good chance that many people will need to move their tents, etc. to let you out if you do not. You could be effectively trapped.
You will have no problem getting out if you park in "day parking" and camp in tents only from what I have heard.
camp in a tent. sleeping in a car sucks. sleep in a tent and when the sun comes up, you can chill in your car for an a/c break. do not sleep in your car with the a/c on and the windows closed!!! you will die.

That is for pets, people wake up in the heat and with the luxury of opposable thumbs can exit the car. But it's not comfortable in a car anyway. we had no wait leaving at about 8 am monday morning.
I'm pretty sure that by "car camp" the OP meant "camp by the car" vs. camping in the tent-only section... not so much camping IN the car. We'll be camping in our van, which does get hot pretty early. I'm hoping that the battery-powered fans I bought will buy me a few more hours of sleep in the morning.
As far as getting out on Sunday, goes, last year we left around 6 p.m. and there was already enough of an exodus going on that we were able to navigate out of our camping spot without making anybody move their tent.
Yes, my apologies for the confusing post... I mean Camp by my car... not in it? What are you guys planning to do. Tent only, or camp by your car?
And in terms of leaving the place, it shouldn't take more than an hour or two if I leave sometime on sunday afternoon/ night? I suppose I can gauge it when I get there, I just cannot miss my flight, that would be awful.
In the past, it looked like the worst time to leave was right after the last headliner (so ~midnight on Sun), leaving 5-6pm shouldn't be that bad. Also, like imake said, it may be a little difficult getting out if you're surrounded by tents (it's not supposed to work like that but people wind up setting up where ever). If your hemmed in, talk to the people blocking you ahead of time to work out how you're going to get out (they might not be at their tents when you want to leave), if you see someone setting up where they would block you, you might want to let them know right then that you're leaving early.

We were first timers last year. Left around 11:00. Got out in time to take the family to Pizza Hut in Manchester.
