We're driving in from Dallas and have a really nice camp stove I got as a hand me down from my dad (he upgraded to the 4 burner model).
Anyhow, I had planned on buying a converter and running the thing on the coleman propane bottles. I just called the manufacturer and they said the stove would run for 15 minutes on one of them. So, now I need to find a bulk propane tank to run the thing on.
The problem is, I don't want to drive from Dallas the whole way with propane in the car. We'll be coming up through Birmingham, AL into Manchester. Does anyone know of a good place to pick up a smaller 5lb propane canister on the way?
Or, if anyone near by has a propane tank they would be interested in renting out to me, PM me.
Any other suggestions are welcomed as well. Thanks in advance.
I'm not worried about the possibility of them leaking in the car... it just seems like a bad idea to have lots of compressed explosive gas in your car while driving 13 hours in case of an accident.
We'll be making the trek in a Toyota Corolla that'll be packed with stuff. I guess the gasoline tank is worse argument gives me some solice. Besides, if we were to get in a wreck on the way out to our first roo, our roo experience would be interrupted and the world would effectively end as a result anyhow.
Thanks for helping me work past my paranoia (or at least one of them). I guess I'll be carting a tank out with me.
I'm bringing a tiny propane tank for a tiny range like thing I'm bringing to make coffee. I don't know the specific names because...I usually don't camp. Anywho....can I keep that tank in the car while I'm in centeroo? Will it be too hot in my car to keep it there? Should I just..keep it out? Anyone?

Read the warnings on the tank, it probably says not to leave it in a hot parked car. If you do leave it in the car the trunk is probably the coolest spot.
There is a Wal-Mart on exit 108 outside of Birmingham that probably has cannisters. Or if you take the bypass around B'Ham, get off on exit 10 in Hoover(go right), there is a Wal-Mart and two sporting goods stores that should have plenty of camping supplies.
