excuse my ignorance here, but i just got my first laptop and i was thinking about bringing it to roo to take advantage of thw wi-fi and check email and stuff.
meanwhile, i have heard that heat is not good for laptops and they should not be left in a car when it's hot out. so... since i am camping and only have the option of either a) leaving it in a tent or b) leaving it in the car...

i really think you should NOT bring it and leave it at home. totally not worth the risk. and if you neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to check your email, go to the email tent

If you bring your laptop I may smite you on principal alone...
The outcomes all seem to suck:
Rain, heat, theft, drunken destruction, smegma...
All hidden dangers for laptops at Bonnaroo.
If you do bring it, lock it up in your car under a pile of blankets or something to help insulate it. Your car could get up to 150F. I do not think they are made for that. I do NOT think there is wi-fi on the farm except in one centroo tent.

Ahh, smegma, what a nice thought. I remember in 10th grade health class, the EXACT beginning to the defination of smegma was "A cheesey like substance...." *shudders*
ok, I guess that is that. Why do they offer wi-fi spots if it's such a risk to bring one? it just doesn't seem like a good idea at all. you all get karma for posting. thanks

I was wondering the same thing. I suppose that if you were RVing or something, you could bring your laptop fairly easily. Even if you weren't, you could leave it in your car or something, but the heat would be sure to do some damage
I'd leave the laptop home too. It might be able to take the heat (mine says you can store it up to 150F) but I'd not risk it. If you do, you may want to put it in a small cooler (w/o ice) in your car which will lessen major temp swings.

I do not know where you read they have wi-fi... I did not think they had it anywhere except for one tent in centeroo where they provide the computers.
NO BAGGING ON SMEGMA... SMEGMA GETS A BAD RAP MAN! It is good for you and full of anti-biotics and anti-fungal goodness. Smegma, it's what's for dinner.
hmmm... i can't give any karma right now. is it only 1 per day?
one per hour I think - and I am not bringing my laptop - this will be the first vacation I have taken without it - if need be - I will go to the internet tent - check email and respond from there
I'm bringing a laptop, partially to be able to dump photos to, partially out of the hope that we'll be able to pick up a wifi signal in VIP camping, and partially to play around writing some music if so inspired. Smite if you like, but it seems like a good fit.
I've left my laptop in my car powered off a number of times in the Texas heat without issues. The big issue is if you have it powered on with the CPU cranking out heat and expecting to remain somewhat cool.

There are less risks in VIP but if I were your laptop I would be pissed that you owned me.

at bonnaroo.com, under "Activities", under "Broadband Internet Village". it says this: For the 3rd year, Charter and Cisco will provide Bonnaroo attendees with a cutting-edge high-tech network that enables attendees to connect with each other and the outside world. This year, Internet access will be available in Centeroo's Broadband Internet Village, and wireless hotspots will be available throughout Centeroo to make it easier than ever for attendees to connect to cyberspace. Bonnaroo continues to be the most tech-savvy festival in the land! So connect with family and friends through the Internet.....free of charge courtesy of Charter and Cisco.
wireless hotspots will be available throughout centeroo. i would be nice to dump my photos on to the laptop after each day and make room on my memory card.

Just beware of theft guys. It is not like theft is rampant but there are definitly vultures in any crowd. Lock it up and try to keep it cool and have fun.
For me, the amount of fudgedupedness I will surely experience does not allow me to bring anything more expensive than my ipod in a water proof case. I have a tendancy to wreck things at Bonnaroo and I just would hate to worry about stuff like that.
LAPPY 486... Stupid made up technology that I just made up. Hey da cheat, call tech support and tell them you broke lappy again.
Bring your laptop and just let it lay around any where you want....You will not have a problem at all...people here at Roo do not steal....plus you may miss some important e-mail...probably a big deal or something....yeah right
