Jason, you're way off this thread's topic. They wanted to know how to get a spot up front, not wether there is room to dance or not once you get a spot. It seems like you're just looking for things to disagree with me on...
find a gimp...i just learned how to walk again before last years roo...handicap access is way more than generous...they made us sit through radiohead and i could still see all of the band. the cool thing is i will be a gimp for the rest of my life (one of the few things that makes it worth while)

People completely abuse that handicap stuff too. I was on the rail right in the middle of the handicap section for radiohead, and I swear most of those people made up their conditions, and then got in their 2 or 3 friends as well. Some of those guys got in because they were obese. Obesity should not be an advantage to getting great seats! Also, a lot of the acts try to get in there as well. I saw the dresden dolls get in the handicap spot for beck, so there's an added perk. Break your foot, get a terrific spot and meet musicians. Pretty sweet.
This feels like a stupid question, but how do you know what shows are gonna be mega big? Obviously The Police, The White Stripes, The Flaming Lips (man am I excited!)...but what about Damien Rice? Ziggy Marley? Regina Spektor? Lilly Allen? The Decemberists? I listen to a good portion of the lineup but I have no idea which bands are "big".

talk to everyone about what they came to roo for. I feel like except for the headliners and the white stripes, the flaming lips are going to have the biggest audience. I'm betting that not many people know about regina spektor, so I could snatch a pretty good spot ten minutes before the show starts.
The other big thing is the time they go. If someone you want to see is on thursday, there's a good chance you'll get a good spot easy. Thursday is actually my second favorite day just because you can get really close to any act then.

It depends on the stage/tent that the artist is performing on. We will have to wait until the schedule comes out for that.
The biggest shows are on the What Stage (Main stage) and the Which Stage is the second stage. It gets pretty crowded there too.

yeah, you don't earn it by waiting there all day, and you don't have say in who owns the spot, and to you other people, if there is no room, don't try to pack more people in, and please don't bring lawnchairs, when i was at austin city limits last year, the chair problem was horrible, but i had no problem getting up close to most shows at bonnaroo 2005, its just i couldnt get dead center, but like right underneath the screens

I don't know about that, a few weeks back when I went CD shopping at my local-chain music store they said her newest CD was #1, and I think they use the Billboard charts (I'm not positive though).
Anyway, back to the topic. I'm more of the hang-back-a-bit-and-chill type. The main stage, at least, is plenty loud to hear from far back (it was still almost painfully loud when I was watching Oysterhead from probably 1/4 mile back last year, back by the trash can/recycling triangle stand thing), and the fence is still pretty far from the stage, so getting up front doesn't make a lot of sense to me. At the smaller stages I can see the point of getting up close (because it's actually possible to get close), but it still sounds better back a little ways. Plus I don't plan on going deaf (I want to keep coming back), and being back a little helps me avoid that.
The only set I was up front for last year was the Motet... It was love at first listen... hehe.
Getting up front takes too much time, I'd rather find an open space where I can hear well (and maybe see) and either dance, or lie down, depending on my mood. But thats just me.

^^^^I agree I am a definetly away from the front person.
I'm a mister...everyone loves me when it's hot. My wife and I can go anywhere with that. I'm also a stepper I take great care to not step on peoples mini camps and apologize when I do. Remember the old Bugs Bunny cartoon? "scuse me pardon scuse pardon me..." All in all I'm a Phil side guy and have been for years.
I travel to Roo with a 60 year old friend. He loves the front more than anyone and seems to get some degree of pity or respect due to his age. He has also seen inumerable concerts and knows all the tricks listed here. I just jump in behind him and go. We saw most shows within 10-15 rows of the front if we tried. Pretty Cool!
i to olike to lounge on teh side near a tree or where ever and set up a little blanket. i truely hated when people stepped on my blanket, hands, shoes, etc. and just said "no problem man." or "no worries" instead of "I'm sorry"
I tried to work my way up front for the Wolfmother show in Columbus recently and was summarily turned away by a mob of gentle yet firm fans. It was actually kinda' funny.

I like to weasel my way in from the side. I make sure I'm not crowding anyone, stepping on blankets, or parking myself directly in front of anyone who, like crazykittensmile, is not blessed with as much verticality as I am. This strategy works best if coupled with the wait until the band playing before is finished.
Using this strategy, I got pretty darn close for Death Cab for Cutie (am I the only one here who didn't go to Oysterhead or what?), and really close for Radiohead.

dude....catheters are for hospitals not bonnaroo haha, but your choice haha
Hey, I think the contraption is awful weird, too.
During a hospitalization where I was out of it for a while, they stuck one of those things on my, uh, thing. The worst part was removing it later. It left all this... hmm, how do I put it... latex 'cheese' all over my member. Not very appealing. Luckily, I don't have a latex allergy. The groups surrounding this malady seem awfully strange: thegoldweb.com/lam/index.html [Is this not a possible use of latex for lonely guys ]
One thing I do know is that if there is a motivation (e.g. front row viewing) then people will find a solution to any hinderance of that goal. If some guy is so determined (or just so wasted) to micturate all over himself rather than leave to use a WC then this might be a better solution. Heck, you could even hook the thing up to your camelbak! bonnaroo.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=logistics&action=display&thread=1172494923 That solves two problems at once. ;D
last year, around 11pm the gates opened to What Stage and my friend, me, and about 100 other people rushed towards the stage to be front row. Luckily i have a gigantic bladder, so i pretty much stayed there all day and then peed after the headliner was done.
The thing that hurts me the most is the fact that by like 1am or 2am im so tired.
If you need to pee just hold it or find a bathroom. Last year at All Good some girls came up to us at our campsite after one of the latenights and asked if she could use our shower. We told her of course and she tells us "thanks a lot, we didn't want to leave our space up close at the show so we just pissed our pants during the show whenever we had to go." Not only is that disgutsting but I'm sure that everyone around them unknowingly was dancing in their waste.

That is gross. I feel for the ladies, I'm sure it's not easy to be in that situation. As for dudes though, I personally have no problem with people peeing into containers within the crowd, so long as it all goes in the (closeable) container, and they take it with them and throw it away later. Especially for guys, because we can easily put a bottle inside our shorts and no one has to see anything! Although I'd like to see othe peoples' opinion on this topic, so I'm off to start a new thread!
man, i really just want to be up front for tool.. : [
i think i have a 1 in 1 million chance of that..
but as for the having to pee thing, i could wake up at 7am.. and probably not have to pee until 7 pm. my only worry is the heat.. i pass out ALOT.
.. and the catheter(sp?) made me feel like i had to pee the whole time it was in me, it was an awkward ' i have to pee, but i dont know how ' feeling. i didnt feel it being put in because i was on an epidural, but when they pulled that sucker out.. geez. ouch.
