personally, i've never seen anyone take away food. i've seen water, other liquids, cans of beer, drugs, and drug paraphernalia, but never food... but maybe someone else on here has?
i think as long as it fits in your bag, is somewhat hidden, and you're not trying to bring a cooler worth of food through the gates, i think you would be good.
I've broughten in sandwiches, granola bars, oranges, and the like with no problem. The people checking bags are volunteers, for the most part working for a free ticket. In my experience, have your bag open and ready for checking. Showing that you have nothing to hide shows that, well, you have nothing to hide. Regardless, be cooperative and respectful.

I don't think it matters what you bring in, as long as it's sealed-up. I've brought nuti-grain bars, dried fruit, chips and candy. But I guess it really depends on wich security/staff member you get at the gate.
i had baggies of homemade trail bix, and they did care. Again, i dont think it matters whats in your bag, as long as you have it ready and open, your good. Also, before you pick a line, check out the different people looking in the bags, if someone looks like they are being a prick, dont pick that line. Never had a problem taking anything in that i wasnt supposed to.
i had a bag i brought in with sealed water and gatorade bottles, and a hidden compartment for the beer . . . . . the bag was hanging by a thread by the end. gotta find one like it for this year
