We're still undecided on what to do about accommodations, & want to explore all the options. I thought I read that they offered a VIP, hotel package, & would release those packages on Ticket Release day. I can't seem to find that info again though. Did I read that or was I dreaming? If there is a package, have any of you gone that route? About how much is it? Do you pay a deposit or pay in full, when booking? Is the rate the same for everyone, even those sharing a room? What else does the package offer? Any info would be very much appreciated.
Disclaimer: If I dreamed this up & there is no such package, please ignore. ;D

I haven't done the VIP hotel thing, but I have done the regular hotel thing and I won't do it again. The Bonnaroo folks buy-up all the hotel rooms for miles in advance to sell in "event packages". Even sh*t-hole hotels end-up costing three times what they are worth! After a dirty/dusty day in the sun, it's all too easy to head back to your room for a "quick" shower that ends-up taking hours when you realize how tired you are. If it rains (wich it usually does), it's all too easy to justify going back to the hotel "just for a little while" to dry-off or warm-up. When you realize how much money you've just spent for a room that you're not spending any time in, it's easy to convince yourself of many reasons to do just that. We ended up missing several shows that year and still regret it today. One of the great aspects of going to Bonnaroo is in discovering new bands buy just walking by a tent and we missed-out on alot of that. "Browsing" and wandering aimlessly are big parts of it and when you have the fall-back options of a warm bed and actual showers, it's easy to miss-out on an essential part of the Bonnaroo experience. This is just my opinion, but I thought I should share it with you. Whatever you decide, I hope it works for you. Peace.
Doesn't getting a hotel and buying a VIP ticket completely defeat the purpose of paying so much extra for VIP? It doesn't make sense to me for there to be a package like that. The only benefit you would get from VIP is the bleachers at one of the stages and the food & bathrooms in the VIP area. If I were staying in a hotel (which I also would not recommend, personally) I would not pay the major extra dough for a VIP ticket.

I was wondering that too, there must be people who really like the bleacher seats or something. But I guess they could be taking advantage of the free food and reduced beer all day. It does seem like kind of a waste to me too, to spend all that money and not be camping so close in vip.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, the biggest benefit and the only reason to shell out the G for the VIP tickets is to have your campsite's proximity to be as close to the main stage and centeroo as it gets. The rest of the "benefits" are decent at best.
VIP parking is much closer than GA day parking (which was about 15 minutes from Centeroo 2 years ago), plus the no-hassle going into and out of VIP. Plus the VIP/Hotel combo comes with a 24-hour shuttle - no need to drive anywhere.

Thanks for all the feedback. Obviously, I should have included a bit more info in my OP. I'm physically unable to camp in a tent, so that's out. We travel with a pet, so that takes onsite, RV camping out of the equation also. From what I can tell, that leaves us with 2 options. RV camping at the KOA or staying in a hotel. With the RV camping option, we would also have to rent an RV. This makes the hotel option seem like less hassle.
The hotels all appear to be sold out, but I've read that they'll release packages later. We will have to check on our mini-pin often, & it sounds like using the VIP entrance is the only way this would be feasible. *(I'll probably do that why the guys stay & listen to music.) That would prevent us from dealing with the GA traffic, which sounds like a logistical nightmare.
Right now, I'm just exploring all options, so all questions will be answered & we'll be ready to book on the 14th. I still haven't figured out how the tickets & accommodation packages work together. Are they completely seperate from each other? It's a good thing for me that the 14th is a couple weeks away. I'll need that long to "get a clue". ;D
*This brings me to another question. Are we allowed to bring in walkie talkies, phones, etc. just to locate each other with? Don't worry. We wouldn't be walking around talking all the time. That drives me crazy too. Plus, I absolutely hate talking on the phone.
clueless, this might not be what you want to hear, but are you even into the roo music at all? i know everyone can find something good at the roo, but unless you really dig the music, you might consider letting the boys have a vacation while you watch the dog.... since it seems like you'll be seeing them in very spaced out intervals anyway (the trip to the hotel and back will likely take you 2-3+ hours after you find your boys).
or, honestly, find a way to leave the dog out of the equation. get a house sitter or something...

Thanks to those who are trying to help. I really appreciate it! We'll figure out a way for all of us to enjoy this family vacation together. That's what we do.

My gf and I have two addorable dogs that we treat better than some people treat their children, but when Bonnaroo comes around we board them somewhere. We used a really nice place in Knoxville in the past, but now we live in Atlanta so we'll have to find a new place. Anyone from the ATL with any recommendations?

Bonnaroo can be very hectic planning by itself (until you get settled in) without worring about traveling from a hotel or another campsite. The time goes by very very fast and even with camping onsite I found myself missing a lot of shows I wanted to see. I mean the late night shows have been known to go until sunrise. Depending on how far your hotel is and how much you music you want to see you might be sacrificing a lot. I would die if I had to drive back and forth....get there....walk walk and walk some more in the sweltering heat.....by the time the show started I would be pooped.
I like having the option to have my campground to chill at when I needed a break from Centaroo....not having that option and being stuck in Centaroo until it was time for me to TRAVEL back to my temporary place of residence would probably kill me.
I just don't see how enjoyble Roo will be to you with all these special accomodations you need. Roo is best unplanned, down and dirty camping, and just going with the flow. Maybe you should look into some smaller fests where you can camp and RV onsite with a dog and have a lot more relaxing time. You are on vacation and you deserve it.

I'll have to tell you that the GA traffic is really only a logistical nightmare on thursday and early friday. After friday afternoon 90% of the crowd is on site and traffic has tapered off. Coming and going all weekend from the fest is extremely easy via the GA entrance, and there is little to no traffic on these days. The VIP entrance is not necessarily the best way to get to and from the fest. Even on Thursday there is SOME traffic at this entrance, but the relative difference between the amount of traffic coming and going from these entrances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is going to be extremely minimal. The reason for this is that the great majority people stay on site once they are on site. IT should also be noted that there are Multiple GA entrances and exits, but there is only ONE VIP entrance/exit.

I've done the VIP hotel package twice and plan to do it again. I know the popular line is that you need to be camping to get the full Roo experience. But Bonnaroo days are long and I love having an air-conditioned room where I can get out of the rain/sun/heat/dust/mud and recharge for a few hours after the music stops. The shower's are nice, too. Plus there's a Waffle House across the street for breakfast. The shuttle bus takes you to and from the venue. And for other benefits, there's the free food, reduced beer, and the special guest concert Thursday nite.

Billypilgrim, do you remember what the VIP hotel package cost last year? How long did it take you to go back and forth to the hotel? Do you recommend a particular hotel?
Few questions about VIP hotel packages. Do the shuttles run fairly frequently, or do you find yourself waiting around alot? Might it be worthwhile to rent a car as well?
What hotels do you feel have been better than the others? IN general it seems the VIP route is worth it, but are the hotels?
I am probably flying solo and debating between buying the pair of passes and selling the other one (booking a hotel on points) or taking the VIP/Hotel upgrade package for myself only... thoughts?
For me this is the perfect year to go. I am the freak who likes both Ben Harper and CLUTCH. Tool and the Panic. Mule and Stripes are 2 of my favorite bands. It is certainly a validation for me!!!!
