When you put dry ice in first, then frozen water bottles, then a towel or cardboard on top of all that stuff to keep the meat and dairy from going bad, does the food taste all carbonated?

Never did the dry-ice thing, never needed to. Freeze your water bottles and you'll probably be cool. When it's 100 degrees outside, you don't really need super, ice-cold anything to feel refreshed.

The towel is to keep the meat and/or dairy from freezing solid (dry ice is -109.3°F or -78.5°C).
Dry ice converts into carbon dioxide, an odorless gas, as it melts. It won't flavor the food at all. Just vent it outside your tent when you open the cooler.
So according to that website... the "dark side of the moon" party that I went to, where the whole room was smoky with dry ice gin and tonics for about an hour, was probably a bad idea.

In an actual room that was big enough for more that 3 people, it was probably fine. Being in a 2 man tent, breathing in a 5 day cooler of spent CO2 is probably not.
