There was plenty of room to have our tent (for 4 people), a bunch of chairs and a grill. We had enough room to put up a shade tent also, but weren't smart enough to know we would need one The room between the cars is pretty tight side by side, but I think they gave us plenty of room otherwise.
they don't want you to have a ton of room, but what my group of friends and i did was this: when they started herding our cars (we had 6 total) into spaces we made sure we weren't too tightly parked next to each other and then after the guys had moved on down the line guiding more cars in, we got back in our cars and backed up further from the cars we parked behind so that we had a really nice sized square and set up all our tents in a large circle with our 2 shade tents in the center as our 'common area'.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
You jump out and claim what you want. but do it quick. have tarps and mats ready to go down to claim your space. we had very nice about of room last year

no there was plenty of people who had some massive campsites like that. and plenty who had smaller campsites too, but i assumed they were smaller groups. but yeah, basically just be aggressive (without being a d-ck of course) and make like its the oklahoma land rush. tally ho!

The first year we went, we went GA and ended up in BFE. We weren't as agressive as our neighbors and by the time they stole the space behind my car, we had no where to put our tent. I've never had so many panic attacks in my life. We were ready to leave, but by then we were so packed in, we couldn't go anywhere. Ugh, I hate the memory of that day.
wow, see now thats pretty low of your neighbors. taking extra land that noone is using is one thing...boning your neighbor out of space behind their own vehicle is totally different.

in general people just want enough space to set up their tent, canopy, etc. No one is out to claim enough land for a courtyard or anything. After everyone bails out of their cars, there is a moment of sanity where you will talk to your neighbors (most likely) and you will end up with a reasonable amount of space - unless your neighbors turn out to be overly rude like ticktrick's sad story (highly atypical).

yea last year all we had was a tent. we were about halfway done putting it up and our neighbors (who we already had met and been talking to) asked if we would mind moving it a little bit for their friends who were on teh way. we were totally down with that and we hung with them at camp every morning under their shade tent (which was a lifesaver)
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

ya'll has a nuts ton of room. I'm assuming most people were not fortunate enough to have all that room
No Sh*t man, last year we were so packed-in that our tents were actually overlapping at the corners! We had to walk 6 or 7 tents over just to find an opening big enough to "walk" through. It sucked so bad, that I tempered my "festivities" so that I wouldn't fall through someone else's tent while trying to find mine (at night, when I was done). Last year was our worst camping experience so far! Fingers crossed for '07!
'05 we were packed in around the small pond like sardines. Last year we had plenty of room and room to spare which we weren't really worried about, just enough for our tent and canopy behind the car. Our neighbors had some pretty elaborate camps though.
