Dunno though. I feel like its unnecessary spendage to buy a camelback, expecially since I only bought one bottle of water last year while I was down there, I had a few nalgene type bottles (fakes, you know) that I would fill up at the wash station and throw in my bag (or clip them to the strap with a carabiner), it worked well...

Have gotten by for 3 roos without one, just toting in bottled water but I just saw Sams is selling a camelback knock-off. They want $20. It holds 3 liters and has assorted pockets and pouches. Is this a good price?

I bought a cheap camelback one from Wal-Mart- it's just a hydration system, no backpack. Similar to tinyurl.com/25978p
It fits perfectly in my backpack (was $20 at gap, ebay has one going for $5: tinyurl.com/yvpyxu ). And the pocket it fits so well in has a slot in the top for headphones, and a few loops along the strap where you can run the water line-- $30 over-all, and I've used the cheap camelback for climbing, camping, and etc.; Yet to give me a single problem or leak, and it keeps the water cool!
I grabbed a Camelbak - Knock off at Target. One of the best buys I've had. It was the only one left and no price tag on it and no listing on the aisle for a price. The woman asked if $10 sounded fine for a price...I said yes and off I went. Online, afterward, I noticed teh Target price would have been $30 and it has a back pack and nice pockets and headphone slot too.
Though a camelbak my brother has is larger the one I have is fine for me.
On eBay there are Jansport hydration backpacks that are exactly liek camelbacks with the backpack also. I got mine today for 22 bucks and 10 dollars shipping and it was a Jansport Cirrus.

I've been using one for mtn. biking for some five years.
And it can be a problem with water or other liquids not being completely cleaned out.
But I have a hack for that...
Look for a plastic coated & easily malleable wire hanger...
...now for some wire sculpting.
Stretch it out so that its width will be less than that of your camelbak water sac. Then twist that sucker around until it has a few undulations in it (kind of like a 'W' when viewed from the side). It should be a few centimeters shorter than the water sac when finished. And it shouldn't rise more than a 4cm or so when layed down.
Wash out your container and then gently squeeze & contort the hanger into the opening. Then either lay it on a table or hang it up. By keeping the two layers of the container separate, water evaporates more easily.
Its important to also clean out the tube and mouthpiece. A very mild solution of bleach & water (like a table spoon in a liter) will kill any bacteria. Rinse it through, wash out the bleach with dishwashing detergent and let it hang to dry. You can use the same bleach method to disinfect the water sac.
Again, have had mine for five years and still have not got a bad taste or anything in it. ;D

I like this idea, buy the the water pack thing, and put it in my regular backpack, so I can still have my other junk in there....
They are coming out with camelbaks with speakers in the straps so you can jam out while you walk and hydrate. Don't know about you guys...That's what I'm going to pack this year. It's not out yet. Well...they have a winter one....but that would be hot without all the breathable stuff they put on the summer packs. Anyway, thought you guys might want to know. I believe it comes out next month.
I have a jansport one too. It works good but I think i'm gonna upgrade to a bigger one this year that holds more stuff. A good website to find them at, along with other camping gear is:
They put up only one item for sale at a time and it stays up until it's sold out. Some of the stuff you would never buy but if you keep an eye on it you can find some really good stuff for really cheap. I always see Camelbacks and tents for sale really cheap on that site.
If you guys already have backpacks you can buy the UnBottle from Camelbak which is just the insulated bacterial fighting reservoir. Comes in 70 oz or 100 oz. I would look into that because camelbak makes higher quality stuff than the other off brand stuff. It would be cheaper than a full pack but with the quality of a camelbak.

mine is made for girls. i have had one for three out of the four years i went. it is a must have. mine is big enough to use as a backpack too. it comes in handy b/c i can keep almost everything i'll need for the day in it.
