I'm going this year for the first time and I'm tagging along with my friends in their RV. I'm probably going to wind up camping outside the RV though. I haven't read a lot of stuff about the RV sites here. Please share with me your RV site stories, the good, the bad and the fugly.
One question you might answer is, if I camp by an RV, will there be space? And will I be listening to generators and sucking diesle fumes all night?
Are you camping (RVing) in the GA area or in the VIP area?
The exhaust problem could be bad.. Just watch when you pull in with the camper. Look for the neighboring campers generator exhaust pipe (usually 1inch).

I think that you'll be able to find space to camp next to the RV if you get there at the same time as them or have them save a little extra space for you.
When we went last year, we stayed in a RV in the GA section, and from what I remember there were a lot of tents around us. I would definitely heed the advice to watch where the exhaust pipes are though, that would really suck.
I don't think that you have to worry about hearing generators from the AC at night too much, as it cools down pretty nice at night and we didn't turn ours on. But once the sun starts coming up in the early morning, that's when you have to start worring it because it gets hot fast meaning lots of people crank them up. And after a long day (and night!) of Bonnaroo the last thing your gonna want is to be woke up by fumes and the hum from generators at six in the morning!

Yah, that's some crappy alarm clock. It happened to my wife and I once. She was getting ready to leave to work for the Red Cross in Kosovo in a couple of days, so we went camping in Yellow Springs. We had a great night, but, unbeknownst to us, a camper had pulled up in the site next to us in the middle of the night. We woke up to what sounded and smelled like a lawnmower running right outside of our tent. Seems the people had to get up and watch TV in the morning. Ahhhhh...the great outdoors.

Renting an Rv IS the way to go, i went to the first one in 2002 and just camped and it was just like everyone says once the sun is up you get baked and forget about sleeping. Last year we took an Rv and i never slept so good at roo..haha This year we're doin the same, just having that AC to sleep in is key!!!
What if your bringing a pop-up. Is it worth the hastle? Is being in RV camping with a pop-up worth it? And would you guys recommend renting a generator?

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
Just make sure to set up your tent in the front of the RV, not the back with the exhaust. Last year where we were at, there were very few companion vehicles / tents in the RV area, so there was plenty of room to spread out our tent.

I think it depends. How good is your AC without one? As much as I hate them environmentally, if (who I'm I kidding, When) the sun comes out the inside of the RV turns into a oven without AC. Last year, we would turn it on shortly after the sun starting baking because it heats up QUICK

Watch out....Some of your larger class A diesel pushers have the generator and exhaust pipe mounted up front.
If you are going to buy or rent a generator make sure to look for a Honda (EU series) or Yamaha They run less then 60db.
I have a Honda EU3000is and it runs quietly and efficiently.
You should try to sleep IN your friend's RV. It is the only way you'll be able to get good sleep.
It would be nice, but there's no room in the RV. It sleeps six and our group is already 10 strong. Plus, I snore like crazy, so I'm tenting as a courtesy to those that would like to sleep in the RV. I don't mind tenting as long as I'm not suckin' fumes when I get up in the morning.
I'm bringing my popup and a generator - no AC in the popup - but i want to be sure we can run the fans and charge the battery for nightime (early morning !!!) fan use without having to fire up the generator and annoy the heck out of folks. I'm planning on using the propane setting for the fridge. Since were going VIP, no need to use the hot water tank - I'll fill my water tank and run the pump if needed.

How are you going to run the fans without the generator? Are they the 12 volt type? We used to have a Coleman popup and the refrigerator did not cool the best on propane when it was realy hot outside. How is yours?
You can get water at the wash station to fill up the camper, just bring a water carrying container.
