This being my 3rd trip down to Roo from Canada, just wondering if anyone can tip me on any must see spots off the Intersate that I'm missing. My route American side starts at Detroit MI ending up in that sweet ole farm in Manchester TN. From Kentucky I will be on I71, I65 and I24.
Only 2 places that quickly come to mind that I would like to stop and check out are: the home of Jack Daniels, and maybe the Bell house haunting in Adams TN (I'm a sucker for ghost stories!!...lol)
Any suggestions will be appreciated. I just feel I must be missing so much cool stuff each time I do the drive, and would love to see the stuff the locals and other Americans consider worthy of pulling of the Interstate to check out.

If you are into cars, there is the Corvette museum near Bowling Green, KY (just before the TN border). Never been there myself, but I've heard it's really cool (and it's right off the interstate).
Let me think about this some more, and I'm sure I'll come up with a few other ideas.....

This is what we did last year and took the tour of the Corvette and Cadillac XLR plant.........it was really cool and cheap

Mammoth Cave: the longest cave system in the world. They have some cool guided tours and some good camping. Also canoe the Green River which runs through the park. You will see all kinds of wildlife.
Second the Red River Gorge. Some of the best rock climbing in the Eastern US. Great camping. Natural Bridges galore.
Well, I was born and partly raised in KY and TN, til I was about 13 or so. Coming from the North, I'd say go check out Mammoth Cave. It's really really cool, I haven't been in like 10years but it's huge and fun. And if you run through Russellville, check out the NEW SUPER WAL-MART! Seriously though, skip Russellville, there's nothing there. Except for a bank that Jesse James purportedly robbed.Bowling Green is a fun little college town, not too big not too small. As previously stated the Corvette plant is interesting and is near the interstate. Once you pass the state line, there is basically nothing, except if you wanna see the arm-pit of the nation (and I can say that cause I lived there for 3 years) Springfield, TN. Nashville, however, is filled with cool stuff. From the Grand Ol Opry to the many recording studios, Nashville is a haven for music, not just country.

The Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg is really interesting and if I remember correctly, it is either free or really cheap. Just remember though it is in a dry county so you cannot actually sample the Jack
i have no idea where exactly it was, but i saw the most ridiculously gigantic cross next to one of the 2349087234 churches along the way. that's definitely getting a picture taken of it this year.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
One place you should go if you have the time is Cade's Cove, near Knoxville. It's a pretty low-key area, a national park where you're allowed to drive your car. It's an old settlement which they've preserved, with some really cool stuff for it to be as old as it is. The best part is that you can stop whenever you want and get out to walk around and look at whatever. Last time we went I got to the top of a hill in the woods and saw two deer in a clearing at the bottom. I just walked down there and got within ten feet of them, before they ran off. Three deer came within an arm's length of our car a little later that day, and we also saw a bear from a respectable distance, pulling something off a tree branch. If you have a day to kill, you should definitely check it out. They don't check the cars or anything, there's no security, so you won't have to worry about anything you might have from or for 'Roo.

Cades Cove is cool............sometimes. I have gone six or seven times and you most likely will only see Deer and senior citezen tourists. Every once and a while you will see a group of black bears, last time me and my friend snuck up on one and snapped a picture from 3 feet away, i've never ran so fast in my life. Another cool place is off of i-40 in between crossville and knoxville is Ozone Falls, not much water but a really serene and mystical swimming hole underneath. I reccommend it. also if you are going through west virginia check out Cooper's rock outside of morgantown, wv not too mention near the TN/ KY border there is a KFC factory/museum.......rescue the chickens!
Another pretty cool place is Tuckaleechee Caverns. They have some trippy-ass natural optical illusions in there. Like this stalagmite that's really far away on the other side of a huge...uhh...abyss...and it looks like it's ten feet away. But it's not. Crazy, huh?

Thank you so much everyone! All of them sound like excellent ideas, even the drinking beer and eating at Hooters...might have a hard time convincing my wife on that one tho....lol.
Lorretta Lynn's ranch sounds cool....very much into houses or areas that are possibly haunted. Does anyone know much about the Bell house hauntings in Adams TN?
Yeah, actually, my mom just checked out this book about it a few months ago, and I spent a few late nights reading about it on the computer. It all seems pretty legit. Andrew Jackson had an encounter with the witch, where his carriage completely stopped moving, and when he spurred the horses on, they pulled the axle off, even though it wasn't hung on anything.
Unfortunately, she doesn't talk to anyone anymore, and nobody's seen, heard or felt anything strange in decades.
However, she predicted a lot of historical events, including World War I, and she did so in documented cases where someone mentioned what she said before it happened.
Thanx a bunch ProllySo. . . and some Canadian karma your way for the links! Now I just hope the ghost doesn't follow me back home after I visit the site....lol.
