drugsdowork was right i did go solo last year, so here's my two cents -
Hey - what am I? chopped liver? I mentioned that you went solo before he did. j/k hahahahaha (but I really did )
lol sorry, drugs PMed me so i just kinda skimmed through the thread. i've been inforoo slacking due to work lately so i had to read hastily.... my sincerest apologies!!! i'm flattered you knew as well ;D
EDIT: ok i read the first page of the thread now! so to answer another question, Alisa (crazykittensmile), Jen (brewski) and Crystal (hmmm i forget her inforoo name cause she was hardly on), were the other 3 girls i met up with who also went solo to roo.
side note... i ran into a solo girl named mel while on the bus, who i invited to join the inforoo camp... she did and she is now MARRIED to our fellow solo inforooer, Bob (passedoutguy). see good things happen when you go solo!

Thank you so so so very much Tara. That answered a LOT of questions that I had. And the closer it gets to June the more questions I'll have...and the dumber they'll get. I always overpack too (especially my first time going somewhere) so if you have any advice on what else NOT to bring (besides shade tent, water bottles, etc.) please let me know. Again muchas gracias!

I was just messin' with you anyway - but am glad you posted about Mel - I never did get the whole story as to how she ended up with all of ya'll - just knew that she ended up married to passedoutguy
You know, I have such a hard time finding anyone out here to go with me to roo. I have one friend who has similar interests in music as me, but can't find the time to go. My other friends are just not into that scene and my gf won't go because it is outdoors and thats not her thing, so I defiantly feel your pain. I have traveled solo the last two times I have been there...once by Greyhound and last year on plane
If you can't find anyone to go with then go by yourself and as many have suggested , camp in the tent only with the Inforoo peeps .Trust me, you will never be alone hanging out with us.
Actually, I got persuaded into VIP. I never thought I'd do it, but now I'm kind of excited since I've done it GA twice. My vacation got canceled and I got a $600 refund, so I figured I'd put it towards that. But I will most definitely be a frequent visitor to camp inforoo! Not being in that group again is the only reservation I had about the VIP thing, so I'll definitely be there
Awesome thread here, guys. This is the sh*t that makes me love this board so much.
Anyway, I'm heading down to Langerado all by my lonely in about 48 hours, so I'll be sure to report back with my own personal experiences doing a relatively big fest on my own. That said, I've already got three numbers in my phone for other folks heading down -- that's the beauty of it! You're never really ALONE when you're surrounded by folks with one huge, glaring thing in common.
All that said, I've got my girlfriend doing McDowell Mountain with me in April -- so I'm making ground!

Beer f**king pong! I'm sold :-) Does that mean free drinks??
I'm much more excited now, a bit nervous but that's normal for any roo virgin (or any kninda virgin I guess). Thanks everyone for all the encouragement!
Bonnaroo means free drinks. I usually end up having to start refusing drinks before its even dinner time. Definatly go solo. I'm sure i'd prefer to go solo, its just a lot more freedom. But as long as theres someone who i can spread the bonnaroo love too, i'll be happy to take them along. Amazing someone with bonnaroo is worth not getting to solo it.
ya i refuse alot of drinks too. for some reason everyone wants to give me mass amounts of moonshine. i dont know why i attract people with moonshine at fests but it always happens. damn i hate that stuff. but i love it too. damn moonshine. damn it to hell!!!

Whenever i read the beer tips thread im like, no, im not gonna risk bringing down drinks, and get a little disapointed. Then I remember its bonnaroo and that definatly wont be a problem. ;D

Where about the long island are you from? Greyhound from NY to TN?? Man how long did that take? What do you suggest I do (especially if I'm on a tight budget)? Anyone else who's done greyhound and plane feel free to chime in here

Northern NJ to TN is about 14 hours straight, doing speed limit in good weather. Add in driver changes, food breaks, traffic, low visibility, etc., and you're probably pushing 18 hours.

I wouldn't suggest busing it unless you have alot of time. It took me 23 hours to get out there. I did enjoy the trip coming and going, but it was just too long. Splurge a little and take a plane, you won't regret it. BTW, I live in Riverhead, Eastern Long Island.
I bought my plane ticket from LaGuardia to Nashville a few weeks ago for $202 round trip on American Airlines. Nonstop! The flight is about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

WORD UP!
Wow, that is better than when I flew Southwest last year out of Islip. I would check that out if I were you Lazylover.
you sure you don't mean "that's my post for the month"? that's about the pace you're on at the moment ;D
j/k dude, i know runnin the board has got to keep you busy behind the scenes, glad the man behind the curtain can still join us in conversation from time to time!
OUCH! I guess I deserve that though, Ive been pretty hands off lately. Its good to be back though! lmao....
I went with a friend last year, and we didnt see each other after thursday night. I went my way, and he went his, and I wouldnt have had it any other way. Worrying about friends means you have to worry about timing, meet-ups, going to see shows you dont want to see, missing shows you do want to see, etc.
It does have its upside, someone to... relax... with, someone to enjoy the shows and laugh with. Still, if you are outgoing, (which I have a feeling you are) then you will do fine... Make new friends to chill with and you will never be lonely.

i went to Lollapalooza solo last year, and it was a great time, i got to see everything i wanted without any other input. i know Lolla is no Roo, but if i had to go to the Roo solo, you bet your ass i would.
OK ok I'll go solo this year cuz every one of you has only given me positive feedback. So if I don't enjoy myself, you're all to blame :-P
And yeah I thnk flying's the way to go. It would be much easier and not that much more expensive than greyhound if I get my tickets like...now. Jtr210ny what day are you leaving/returning to LaGuardia? I just found a rountrip flight for ny (LGA) -> nashville for $150 (leaving june 12-returning june 19) and that seems too cheap...maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Riverhead is reeeeally far from me. I'm in the glen cove/north shore area. Closest I've been to riverhead is central islip or stony brook and even that's pretty far from you right?
Last year i went with 3 friends of mine. we ended up picking up 2 stragglers going solo and hanging out with them the whole time. If you want to go solo, then just find a group that can adopt you. like other people have said, these people at bonnaroo are pretty much the nicest people in the world.

greyhound bus? UHHH.. i hate the bus..! i would NEVER do a long distance bus trip. altho i have considered doing green tortoise.. (hmmm that could be a whole new thread!)
definitely go solo. I went with one buddy last year and it was amazing. We had a solo guy right next to us and from day one we chilled and did shit together like we knew each other since birth. It really is an amazing experience no matter how you take it. It is easier by yourself for many reasons and the other benefits from groups are still there when you need them. Shit, I think even I might be soloing it this year. See...I refuse to miss a once in a lifetime opportunity like this just for what?....money?....school?...work?.....this comes once a year and is unique each year. You can't replace it....but I might have my priorities in a different order than my excuse making friends. At least some of them.... So either way your more than welcome to join in with my adventure that is bonnaroo 2007....assuming your going to the same shows that is....ha
While the people at Roo, in general, will be much nicer and more trustable than the average person keep in mind that anywhere you go a woman by herself always has more to worry about that some guy going solo. Seedy people will, unfortunately, take advantage of a situation or a person wherever the chance comes up.
And I'd totally recommend flying over greyhound. I'm from Long Island (Centereach), originally, and the flight from Laguardia to Tennessee is bad enough. Can't imagine that on a bus!

Hmm really think I'd have to worry about going solo cuz I'm female Looking through a lot of the posts, most people have said that that wouldnt' really matter. I feel like as long as you don't do anything too stupid you shouldn't have to worry, regardless of sex. But I've never been so don't know for a fact.
Consider this too.... tons of people walk around by themselves even if they are there with tons of people. There is plenty of people that "seem" alone. There is nothing to worry about even if you're a female as long as you made it past 5th grade or so....and don't need mommy or daddy to take care or you....for 4 days haha. Basically stop worrying now because there is no need. Plus, you've already made a few friends on here that wouldn't mind another addition to their group. Me included. I would hate to hear that someone missed out on bonnaroo because they were unsure if it was safe or friendly enough. I know it's the safest most fun time I have all year long. That's not just me either...
It's funny how you're worried about safety and stuff at the festival when you should be worrying about that BEFORE and AFTER you get there. Like in AIRPORTS or BUS STOPS. I would bet my life savings that Bonnaroo is safer than the very places you take safety for granted.
No, was never really concerned about safety that’s why I was confused when Taciturn brought it up. But whatever, I’m not even worried about the airports and stuff…Now my only concern is money but I’m trying hard to work more hours and save every last penny which is kinda tough since I’m going to school full-time too. But I’ll stop complaining. I mean if thousands of other kids in my situation can manage then I’m sure I can as well.
there we go!!! yeah, I didn't think you could be that paranoid. I was just making sure you knew it was pretty damn safe to be by yourself. It's worth the money saving and time spent getting there....because once your there....oh you'll see......you'll see....
