I don't know anything about tents, so could someone help me out here? I don't have a lot of money to spend on a tent, so I'm wondering if you all think this would be a good tent? Also, is a freestanding tent like this one able to be staked to the ground? (this was originally posted in the "Tents Tents Tent" thread, but noone is reading that one anymore.)
Looks good. No ropes to trip over, easy to set up, about the right size for the site. I say do it. Just remember sleeps 3-4 means if you like to spoon.

Well, seeing as I do like to spoon, this should be perfect! (Although, spooning with someone when we both have swamp butt doesn't sound that appealing! ;D )
It should, I believe. Otherwise, just stick a few heavier items in the corner, and I really don't think the breeze will give you many problems.
Me, I've got a $40 Ozark Trail 4 person that I didn't think would last but a few trips (I go camping once or twice a month), but it has held up suprisingly well. I wouldn't -recommend- it, versus tents better known for their durability, but I won't recommend against it, either. *shrug*
I just know OT has a bad reputation-- maybe I got one they accidentally double-sticked at the seems

seriously you must have lucked out! cause mine left me sleeping in a large puddle sunday night although they're probably decent as long as they don't encounter torrential roo-rain ;D
just remember; with camping/outdoor equipment, you get what you pay for. i wouldn't trust a $40 tent. i'd use it for tp. you can spend $30-$1000 for a tent. you're not going to be in your backyard and you're not going to Everest. since you were on campmor.com, check out eureka fourway. a good roomy tent that will breathe well and is decently made. $89.99.
think of beer when you shop for a tent. $40 tent = schlits; $1000 tent = crazy delicious import! you need a bud light for roo.

I hope you're not trying to imply that bud light is better than schlitz....It's the f*ckin beer that made Milwaukee famous.
well, schlitz IS at the end of the end of the "evolutionary beer scale" at the grocery store isn't it? (good imports on one end, crap on the other) it is like $7 a case right? but i guess there is worse stuff. king cobra, olde english 1800, gobel. yea, your right, schlitz is good.
oleander124, for some reason i can't click on the site you copied here. i am a frequent campmor buyer so i know the site well. i go on many backpacking trips a year and i like to think i know gear pretty well too. if you know the brand and model name, i will try to help you out.

so i checked out the coleman kenai. its a good beginer tent that should be decent. just watch that fly. looks like you'll have to "guy out" the fly to make it tight. if you don't guy out it will sag on the windows and you wont get any airflow. if you need any help or have questions, just ask! a lot of people on here can! good luck!
I've never sealed my tent but I think I will this weekend. This will be its third Roo and I got it from Target - I think my luck will run out if I don't seal it this time. Anyone have a favorite sealer to recommend?
Just spent the last 2 days setting up my tent, sealing the seams, tying new guy lines... and packing it away in a stuff sack for another 98 days ....
i feel you're pain broseph! 2 weekends ago i said F it and camped in the freezing azz ohio cold! something about sitting by that fire with a frosty one (no pun intended) is totally therapeutic!
