it's mostly grassy. the grass is kinda dry and sharp (like hay), but the landscape is pretty flat. there really aren't any rocks or anything like that (from what i've seen).

Last year, my gf and I were crammed-in to a VERY rocky campsite! It was the first time in 3 years of Bonnaroo but, it does happen. The barren, grassless, gravel-laden "campsite" on the far side of the church was so hard that we couldn't even hammer our tent-stakes in. We actually broke several of them in the process. If he hadn't brought an air-mattress, we would have been totally screwed. Like I said, it was the first time this had happened to us but it did happen...unfortunately. Granted, we were pretty far out in BFE (for the first time) and it seems like the farther away you are, the less "hospitable" the landscape can become. Hopefully you won't have to worry about it but, I thought that I shoud let you know exactly how bad last year's "accomodations" were for us. Good luck.
We've always been in the grass. The grounds alittle uneven or bumpy in areas, but we(the 4 in my crew) have always slept in just sleeping bags and it's still pretty comfortable.

The first two years we just used sleeping bags without any problems - I've since become and old guy, so we either use a futon mattress or air mattress now. I think we've only had ground problems once, and that was the year we were camped by the little 'pond' near the front - we had to move our tent back that year because there was a fairly decent slant to the ground.
Although you have grass, you have patches of grass, I would recommend a cot or air mattress. Not bad sleeping on a sleeping bag, but you may get some the the lumps in places. Not bad, I have camped in worse locations though.

^^What campground were you in last year?
Not sure of the name but, it was the one on the far-side of the little church with all of the "You're going to Hell" and "Jesus Wept" signs in front of it. It sucked!
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
You know it's been a long time time between artist additions when we are talking about dirt.
I agree - and just to keep the discussion going - our campsite wsa good - long grass that formed a cushion under the tent - but that first night was a pain since the grass was so long and had not been trampled down at all

We were all the way out yonder past the boardwalk, and then some. basically the very tip right corner of that area. Our grass was very sharp and very long. It wasn't very enjoyable, but you get used to it.
The grass was more of a problem for us than the rocks. Make sure you take a tarp to put under your tent. That grass gets sharp. Also, now that I think about it there was some grass that had little thorns on it. Ouch!

Last year, I brought some hand held grass clippers. I didn't have the patience to "mow" under the tent (too excited to set it up), but I did clip all around the entrance and under the shade tent. I've never encountered any rocks.
