I think we have decided to camp in the VIP area in our tent. What's you best suggestion for getting a little shade on the tent? I'm fairly certain there's not gonna be a way for me to get a nice tarp going. Oh wait...I drive a jeep with a luggage rack on top...could I create a tarp that way? the idea of sticking my tent in the middle of a shade canopy seems silly. no?
Secure one end of the tarp to the luggage rack on your jeep. Take the other end of the tarp, drape it over your tent and secure it (tent stakes, guy lines, whatever) and there you go! That's basically what I'm planning to do.

that's exactly what im doing. Who cares about looking silly? if you're tent turns into an oven then ur not going to care what people think. While Im sleeping late and looking silly you will be awake at 7 and not being silly

Oh man I agree with you about not caring about looking silly....but i only have one shade canopy and a pretty big tent and kinda thought maybe I would use the canopy for a sitting area and find a way to throw a tarp....I went to Smilefest last year and we baked up like beef jerkey...so the more suggestions the better

I bought a screenhouse that is big enough to fit my entire tent and still have about 6-7 feet of sitting area...all under the wonderfulness that is the shade. I'm heeding everyone's warning of tent-stroke and avoiding it by not having any of the tent in the sun! I don't care one bit about looking silly...comfort is the key!
I was worried I'd pi$$ off my neighbors because of the size, but I realized it will be smaller than if I were to use my tent plus a 10 x 10 canopy. With my tent plus the canopy it would be 10 x 18, but this is only 2 ft wider but 3 ft shorter...this way I don't have to rig a tarp over it and worry about it flappin' all over the place...AND I can keep my rain fly off and have more ventilation!

I ordered it a few days ago and haven't received it yet. I hope it's easy to put up...I think Coleman's a good brand and should be fairly easy with at least 2 people. **here's to wishful thinking!!**
It has no floor and the zippers open all the way to the ground so you don't have to step over anything. Also, you might want to do some searching online...their price went up from yesterday by about $15. Maybe another site sells them cheaper...but not by much because when I bought this for $114 it was the cheapest I could find. (They do have free shipping for orders over $99 until the end of March, though! That will save you $30!)

You rock...thanks for the info...my other half think our tent is way too big for something like this...so I may also be buying a new tent...good thing I love to shop!

Suggestions?
You should swing by the VIP thread, we were just discussing shade tents earlier this week, there is also a link to cheap canopy system. Hope this helps.

One more thing, sunsine37922, I contacted gearforcamping.com about a non-relevant matter, and they said they would beat a competitor's price if you let them know...might come in handy...
