Howdy,
This is probably some really early planning, but I'm looking for a good grocery store along i-24, preferably somewhere nearby or just before Murfressboro, that would be an easy spot to meetup with some friends and get some supplies before entering the festival. Somewhere that even my dumbass friends wont miss is the key here.
Hopefully somebody local out there will have some good recommendations?
The Wal-Mart is an excellent place to get stuff (if you don't have a problem shopping at wal marts). No matter what - the Wal-Mart parking lot is a pre-roo experience that should be experienced. If you are traveling with coolers, however, depending on when you will be arriving in the area, you might want to stop around Nashville to do your selective food shopping, stock the coolers, double bag stuff you don't want wet (or put it in containers that fit in your coolers). I say this because after about 1 AM on Wednesday night your exit options in both directions become VERY restricted. For instance, you can't exit at I-24 and I-55.
Also, just in terms of shopping - less is better. Don't plan on doing much cooking - you just won't have time or energy in the heat. Your neighbors are likely to have lots of food to share. Simple food items, easy to throw together, that won't spoil in a cooler, don't require heat to cook are recommended. The vendors have good food and prices range from a bit high to $1 grilled cheese on shake down. Last year I can't tell you the number of people that were throwing out food they did not eat or cook on Sunday.
If you get here early enough, go over to "Spring Street Market" for the freshest meats and vegetables in Manchester. It is a family owned market (not the evil empire) that has been here in Manchester for years. Last year it burned to the ground one night and a lot of people in the community (and their insurance I am sure) got the place rebuilt better than ever.
Off of I-24 exit 111 (same as roo) go the opposite way from roo, toward Manchester. Take a right at the main intersection (first light you come to) then take a left at the first light (This is Spring Street) and the market is about 0.5 mile down on the left. Don't pay any attention to the neighborhood you have to drive through to get there, it only looks bad.
