Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Personally, I've never had many problems with bugs.. maybe they just don't like me(YAY). However, one girl who is coming with us can get allergic reactions to chiggers.
so I'd like to know.. did you see many? anyone know a good way to clear em from your campsite or test for them?
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

This will be my fourth year attending Bonnaroo. We've never had/heard of any chigger problems at Roo. So, you're friend is probably good in that department. Every year, for the first couple of hours after we get set-up, we see alot of little green grasshopper-type things around/on/in our tent....but they disappear pretty quickly. We usually see a few (really tiny) spiders around our campsite but, they've never given us any problems whatsoever. In '04 we saw a HUGE, scary f*cking spider in Centeroo but, that was the only time that has ever been an issue. Some people on this board seem concerned with snakes at Bonnaroo but, I've never seen one. Tennessee is full of snakes but, they tend to want to avoid 100,000 screaming people. Just be sure to stay out of the woods and, FOR GOD'S SAKE.....don't swim in that nasty damn water!

I found one guide meant for folks who do want to atleast test for chiggers.. take some sort've 3-dimensional white object, preferably cardboard, and stick it down. Take a look at the top and sides.. within a few minutes of setting it down if there ARE any chiggers they'll be covering it.
if she has allergic reactions - make sure she brings benedryl - but we did not have any probs last year - just spiders and they seemed content to gaze at us from afar
I can't believe there is a bugs thread without mention of SKEETERS. I live in a land of 12 months of the darn biters. Every time we have a warm spell..... mosquitoes abound.
What is the deal on them pesky lil' monsters, please?

I remember your post about the screenhouse, well I'm rather allergic to mosquitos and I haven't had an issue with them...last year I didn't even use repel...I think you're good. You can also use rose soap or anything with that fragrance, that is supposed to repel them too

The little monsters don't get too bad around here until late in the summer.
I am an arachnaphobiac so I'll be the one checking out the johns fairly intricately prior to stepping in. They are the only ones I'm worried about. We are bringing head (like caving) lights to use in the POPotties. Otherwise, some Citronella candles can never hurt just to bring along to make yourself feel "better"

I will say that in 2005, I was in that lame back campground, and I got tons of chigger bites. Last year, I was in BFE main campground, and I had no chigger bites.
Never had a probelm with the bugs in 4 years. We lay down a tarp at our site because the grass can be really stiff. I had a spider in my tent last year but I think he was trying to hide for the people. No skeeter, no chiggers, no real bugs. Well a few years ago my buddy was bit by an ant. One bite between 2 of us for 4 years. I'll take those odds.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the ticks. The last 2 years someone in our group has had on of those bloodsuckers on them.
In '04 we were camped right against the treeline near the temporary I-24 entrance and we had ticks galore! One buddy found no less than 8 on him that weekend and 2 more once he got home. That was the only time I've had any issue at all with bugs however....in 4 years I've never even seen a mosquito much less been bitten.
I didn't notice much of anything, and I'm used to looking at the ground and seeing bugs scampering around in the grass. Ticks will be in the woods, but I didn't get any last year (one girl I was with had one on her). Mosquitoes in Tennessee are kinda a joke. I'm originally from Florida, and up here in TN, mosquitoes shouldn't even count. As for the rest, don't worry about it. And the spiders eat pests, so just let them do their thing. The ones on the ground are hunters, so that's half the reason you're not seeing other insects.
Seriously, though, that guy was right about the poison ivy. It was all on the treeline last year. If you don't know what it looks like, look it up, because I'm allergic as hell to poison ivy, and I learned the hard way too many times.
