Valuables I know to keep locked in the car when out and about at roo. But do you really need to put a combo lock on your tent? I have a tent with 2 doors so Keep on lock on the inside (i call this the backdoor) and have a combo lock on the front door?
What do you usually keep inside? Clothes? a Lantern a fan? Sleeping bags. I would not be too bummed if those were taken. I guess I want to know what other campers might find of value at roo. And have anyone esperience thefts?
I'll be going around roo with my friends and i dont know when neighbors leave and come so what are you suggestions with keeping items safe and what not to leave out?
I'm the type of girl who always keep her doors locked and windows shut. This being my first time going I just want to get a sense of security. Can I leave chairs and table outside my tent? A Cooler (should I get a lock for that too?)
Any stories or ideas are welcome. I have not yet read a post about safety. So I wanted to ask.
Thanks
Side note: How can I start a questionare/survey? I wanted to make one and see how many people had things stolen and if they were important or nonimportant items..
i've never had an issue with stolen items. we usually locked our beer/drinks/etc. in the car, but left our clothes, sleeping bag, air matress, fans, etc. inside the tent...unlocked. 99.9% of the people there are cool and totally trustworthy. look around when you get there...if you get a good vibe from your neighbors, i wouldn't worry too much. look out for them, and they'll look out for you. i would suggest keeping your most valuable items locked in the car, just to be safe.

I'm a worrier myself, but I find that at a festival...I only bring things I don't mind loosing, breaking, getting wet, or damaged by drunken friends, etc, etc.
However, I hesistate putting locks on my tent because that might give a shady individual the idea that there is something worth stealing inside, a lock isn't going to stop them, they would just slash your tent and keep moving. I'd much rather have something taken than have to replace a tent, all other valuables go in the car. Don't drive yourself crazy over campsite security, just have a good time, its Bonnaroo!

Good point with the shady individual. I'll keep that in mind. I think after reading the suggestions I'll bring a lock just in case but I rather doubt I use it much.

The only thing that i'm able to add here is that you will definitely want to avoid bringing a cooler with wheels on it. The wheels will just make it easier to steal. Water and beer are very valuable commodities in that kind of heat. I've never had anything stolen at Bonnaroo but, I have heard of the ocassional (wheeled)cooler being rolled away. Other than that, I wouldn't worry. Like everyone else has said, 99% of Rooers are really cool and trustworthy people. Just get to know your neighbors and you'll be fine.
We keep the coolers locked int he vehicle - but we did not have any problems lastyea r- left chairs and stuff out and about and it was always there when we got back
we actually threw our coolers inside our tents when we left the campsite to go into centeroo for the day, and noone in my group last year had any problems with stuff getting stolen.
i definitely recommend not bringing anything you'd consider valuable so that you won't worry either way.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
The point with a lock is not that it's impenetrable, but that it's enough of a deterrent to move someone on the the next (less challenging) tent. I have to agree though that risk are few, keep things out of sight and you should be fine.

We left our chairs, coolers and grill outside next to our cars. The coolers were packed with beer, vodka and LOTS of food but no one ever bothered them. Had pretty much only our sleeping bags in our tent and everything else was either on us or locked in our cars.
Yeah, same here. I leave some clothes and stuff in the tent, but anything worth any money is left in the car- even when I sleep. I left my chairs, coolers, stove, hell, even a brand new pair of keens out- and nobody touched them. The way we've always looked at it is that if someone steals a few bottles of water from you, they probably need it.

For those of you who kept your coolers in your car or tent...How did your ice fair? Especially since I'll be bringing a cooler with wheels I'm thinking it might be a good idea to at least keep it out of sight. (Trippindaisy did your cooler have wheels?)

Ours held up pretty well in the car - but we did have a tarp over the car also
Please lock up anything valuable. My friend left her backpack out while we went to go get food, and when we got back it was gone. It had all her money, her id and cell phone, and other pretty expensive things in it. We had to go looking for a lost and found at 1 AM...this is no fun people! I know it's not common, but things can happen so please be smart about what you leave out in the open!

Yep we had the huge coolers with handles and wheels and no one messed with them. Although they were in between our two cars which were parked pretty close together so they weren't really out in the open.
we stuck our wheeled cooler under the rainfly entrance part of our tent, and left the water cooler out under the canopy. it worked like a charm, nothing stolen, 2 bags of ice per day kept everything lovely
