Hey guys and girls,
I just wanted to see if anyone knew of some effective ways to prevent acne breakouts for the Bonnaroo week. This is going to be my first roo and I cant wait, but I don't want to have a face full of zits the whole time. If anyone has some advice it would be much appreciated.
I dunno. I usually get them afterwards. Really bad afterwards. Your going to get them either way, it's hot dirty and most people don't shower or wash up really well so expect the zits.
between constantly applying sunscreen, dirt/dust, and lack of washing facilities if you get breakouts you're pretty much screwed. maybe bring some of those Oxy pads and wipe your face down a few times a day?
thankfully, i am past the stage of my life where i get breakouts anymore, only a single zit here or there.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Also, Bonnaroo is the most relaxed crowd you'll ever want to meet. Don't worry about how you look, just glory in how you feel. If you're going to Coachella, you'll need to be up there with the beautiful fashionistas but folks at Roo will see the beauty within, not judge you by the condition of your skin.

This is so funny - having "problem skin," it actually was something that came to mind when I started planning the weekend. Never would've thought to admit it to anyone, though - until now! lol Bring a pack of the face wipes that come in the packs like baby wipes - get the kind with salicylic acid for preventing zits. And a plain old clean washcloth to dip in icy cooler water sounds like a must-have, no doubt
We'll definitely be needing sunscreen on our faces. There's lot of facial moisturizers with SPF 15 in them, but I don't think that's gonna cut it. And being someone with "problem skin," I hate the idea of slathering regular old sunscreen on my face all day, much less for 4 days. I don't have a personal favorite, nice, gentle, non-clogging one, but I know there's plenty on the market. Anyone got a good one they recommend?
But, yeah, I totally understand your concern. On one hand, it's cool we know it really doesn't matter at all, and we're all gonna to have an awesome time no matter what our pores have to say about it. But nobody wants a monster zit or seven throbbing on their face in the Summer sun.....and you know we wanna look good in our roo pics for the folks back home. j/k - well, kinda kidding - Ha! ;P Sincerely yours in vanity & roo dermatology, magnoliabread 67 days!!!!!!!!

oof lucky. i'll be twenty in a few weeks so i figure i got a few more years left of breakouts. my skin wa sterrible when i was younger, its a lot better nwo but i still get breakouts and it sucks
anyway, def brign facewipes to roo, and the next shower you take after roo is pure heaven. it feels absolutly incredible to get all that dirt off
I have very sensitive skin, so I use waterbabies sun block in the stick form for my face. (Looks like a giant chapstick) It's very gentle, and easy to re-apply if needed. I also like the dove face wipes instead of baby wipes for my face.

i used this last year and ever since, it's never given me a problem. it isn't all greazy, and doesn't smell funky to attract bugs to your face either! i'd say it's an all around winner

You're probably going to walk away with some facial blemishes but, who cares! Consider your post-Roo acne as little, red, puss-filled badges of honor! Anyone who may notice will quickly be in awe of your wonderfully amazing Bonnaroo stories! It's not only a very small price to pay but, it's also a great way to justify bringing-up your "trip" again!

True. The great thing about 'Roo is there's always someone worse-off than you. Also, as long as you have fun, who cares how you look? Particularly at a place like Bonnaroo.....

for me what i look like with a bad breakout doesnt really matter to me but sometimes it fucking hurts. and acne face wash stuff has ingredients in it that attracts the sun and makes it easier to get burnt, so the choice is acne or sunburn.
2-4 cups a day. I know it sounds flakey, but it has actually completely worked for my mild acne, so it certianly won't hurt.
If 2-4 cups a day is a lot for you, you can double-bag into one cup. Oh and don't add milk to it or it'll ruin the antioxidants. It's really good with a ton of honey though...

One of my friends taught me this trick, and I've used it tons for camping and travelling and has always helped me. This advice might make me sound kind of whack, but if it helps someone else out, whatever....
If you have super oily, grimy skin (or maybe just regular skin at 'Roo, as I' m sure the sunscreen, sweat, etc., would make anyone's skin grimy) one of the biggest things for keeping breakouts to a minimun is to exfoliate. You need to scrub off all that dead skin, oil, sunsreen and dust, so it doesn't clog up your pores, and your skin can recuperate.
The next problem is that most commercial exfoliators are too harsh on your skin, and especially is used every day, will only make it worse. The best thing to use is baking soda. Pour some in the palm of your hand, add a little water, scrub your face with it, then rinse. (I usually do this after I wash my face). Your skin feels nice and clean, but not that squeeky-overcleaned feeling you get from cleansers.
I thought my friend was nuts when she told me to do this, but it's worked so well for me that this, a decent cleanser and sunscreen is all I do for my skin, even at home.
And I sympathize with you, because I had TERRIBLE skin for YEARS. (and I'm hoping "Roo doesn't bring it back)
It takes some work but... On the first day you have to cook some bacon for breakfast. If you don't eat meat just give it away to your neighbors. Save the grease and apply liberally to skin twice a day. BANG--no zits. Just remember NOT to sleep face down in the grass.

i don't care if it works or not. i would never apply bacon or grease whatsoever to my face.
burt's bees! i have very sensitive skin, but it's oily. burt's bees garden tomato soap is the only stuff i can use, and it's 95% natural, so, you know, fits in w/ the whole bonnaroo vibe
but honestly, my skin was gorgeous after bonnaroo! i think i must have detoxed from drinking all of that water and sweating. and i even wore sunscreen, which usually irritates my face. in fact, i was so impressed when i returned, that i started drinking water much more than i ever did!

i think i'll drink a lot of green tea as recommended above, a load of water, and a not so powerful face wash. but there's no way in hell i'm using bacon grease...

I have bizarely problem skin as well... it's extremely sensitive, and though it's usually dry I randomly get major zits (actually as my dermatologist has told me its cystic acne... ew)... It doesnt bother me asthetically mainly because they mostly form on my shoulder blades and they are few and far between, but they are extremely painful and as I have been informed if a larger cyst bursts internally it could cause sepsis... I have found that on camping trips all the sweating and the change in metabolism causes pretty much any blocked pore to become inflamed in rage... sun screene is the worst thing for this... but you can't go without sunscreen...Neutrogena however makes the best sunscreene ever... comes in up to (i do believe) spf 40 and I havn't had a problem while camping since... also dove clensing cloths work excelently for just a little refreshing wipe down. Also dont cleanse or exfoliate you face too much either this just ... lets say angers... the pores and causes their oil production to rise (its like a defense mechanism) ... this in turn causes clogged pores ... I recomend a natural clenser... like as previously stated by ProllySo and Kilgore either something like burt's bees or even baking soda.
I just made sure to rinse my face off a few times a day. Rinsing and washing in the morning is essential, then splashes of water on the face throughout the day are very helpful as well.
Bullfrog Mosquito Coast.......a two in one sunscreen and insect repellent......I used to work as a product development chemist for the company that makes it and it is great stuff and won't make your face break out (at least not mine). My fiance developed it.........I worked on Gold Bond, which is another Bonnaroo must!
Post by MickStPeter on Apr 8, 2007 23:01:23 GMT -5
oh totally never though of goldbond... hey another tip if your hair is getting too grungy for your liking you can rub some baby powder through it (yes baby powder) and it helps absorb the oil so your hair isn't so spaghetti like and it doesn't smell too bad... just dont over do it or you'll look a little louis VIV
Just on a different angle of the whole acne thing. . .
I have cystic acne. It's genetic or some bullnuts, but I have it and it sucks. At last year's roo I was on Acutane. I called my dermotologist before hand to ask him what to do about dryness and whatnot. He said that the sun is actually semi-good for your skin, so long as you wear lot's of sunscreen. Also, in my experience alot of acne is linked to stress moreso than cleanliness. Granted washing up regularly is essential, eliminating stress in your life is also a must-do. Bonnaroo is pretty much a stress-free environment with lots of sun. It's a goldmine for acne treatment in a way. I was the least broken out then than I have been since. And even if I hadn't been, it's not like it matters anyways. Nobody's really going to care what you look like, and even if they did it shouldn't matter anyways. Just have some fun and try not to worry so much about it all.
I still get zits, and I am now getting an occasional gray hair, for some reason i thought that there would be a time period between the two, but oh well, neither is too bad. But I didn't have any larger problems than usual during and after roo the last 2 years, and I took much less care of my skin than I do when at home, just a couple of face showers at the troughs each day.
oh man if I get regular moisturizer, even just a tad, anywhere near my face, I am screwed. Last bonnaroo I woke up saturday morning going OMG WTF. I had dabbed at my forehead after applying sunscreen to my arms. So this is something I'm concerned about preventing this year as well.
The baking soda regimen intrigues me. maybe worth a shot to try before bonnaroo. Generally the sun helps my skin, even a bit of sunburn isn't bad.
I have to try to find a sunscreen that doesn't break me out though!
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
