I've been trying to find this on here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
Are umbrellas allowed inside Centeroo? I would like to use one for shade as I walk or stand around waiting for a show, but I don't plan on using it during a show so I don't block anyone's view. Will they confiscate this from me if I try to bring one into Centeroo?
Nowhere does it say that umbrellas are NOT allowed but they may not be allowed in concert areas (ie Centeroo) as they could block peoples view. I've never seen anyone carrying one so I'd email B-roo and ask. I don't think they'd confiscate it at Centeroo but they may make you take it back to the campsite. Then again you can just take one you don't mind losing and see what happens.

I've seen piles of umbrellas and tall folding chairs outside of the Centeroo gates nearly every year.

Got a QUICK response about the umbrella...this is what they said:
"Thanks for your interest in Bonnaroo! Even though we know you wouldn't use the umbrella to block others' views, the people checking your stuff as you enter Centeroo can't be sure of that and won't allow it in. Sorry for the inconvenience! We definitely suggest you wear sunscreen and a hat so you don't get burnt.
Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival"
I guess another option is a big hat or one of those "umbrella" hats.
I saw a dude bring an umbrella one year and he fed me some medicine with a spoon full of sugar. Immediately afterwards he flew away into the sky singing some show tune or something. It was wierd. Only at Bonnaroo!!!! ;D

Why can people from VIP take umbrellas into Centeroo and we can't? It would block the view the exact same way.
cuz they are the privileged few??? I don't know - they get away with bringing in coolers and regular camp chairs also
Well isn't that just stupid. Not only do they get the prime camping area, but they get to piss off everybody else by blocking their view with whatever they want. I don't like that.
I mean, sure, pay more to camp closer, but don't block my view during the show. I have every right to see the show and not be blocked because you paid a few hundred more dollars than I did.
VIP is supposed to be under the same rules as GA, but the people guarding the VIP entrance/exit are in effect only there to stop GA admission. I've never seen anyone stopped bringing anything in from VIP.

Personally, I wouldn't get too wound up about bringing in an umbrella. I took one in from GA in 05 with no problem. Just bring a cheap one in case it gets taken.
I've never had a problem with an umbrella blocking my view. The place is huge. You can move around.

i might buy one of those 2.99 jobbies you can get at walmart, that fold up to the size of a quarter... that way, if they arent allowed ill just stuff it into my bag. they usually have cute designs on them too ;D

there's definitely a discrepancy between the OFFICIAL rules and what actually takes place once you enter. for proof just look at the issue of camelbacks, their official stance is that they have to be EMPTY, but in reality, mine was full of water each and every time i went into centeroo and i never got flack for it. could be the same with the umbrellas, i saw people walking around/sitting in between bands with them, i doubt they were all from VIP. as always, from GA, choose the quickest moving line, they're moving fast for a reason!
plus, who knows who's answering these emails and what they know of the rules. could be some intern who doesn't know all the rules and errs on the side of caution when in doubt.
What they let people bring in and what they don't seems to be completely random.I've been to all of them and I've seen people insidewith huge umbrellas, full sized coolers and plenty of bottled beer.I've also seen them checking everything you have. It's like any other show. You just have to scope out the lines and look for the guy that doesn't seem to care.As for vip, you can bring anything you want into centeroo. This will be my third time vip and that is one of the reasons I keep coming back. I wouldn't worry to much. If you're meant to have an umbrella, the Gods of Bonnaroo will provide.

Well, I emailed them several days ago again after their first response asking why the discrepancy between VIP/GA regarding umbrellas being allowed in, and this is what they said:
"Thanks for your email. Small umbrellas will be fine in Centeroo.
Best, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival"
Now, whether that will be followed is up in the air, but that's what they replied back to me.
I guess the question is what is considered a small umbrella?
^^ I would assume anyything less then a huge golf umbrella - the access info guide allows small umbrellas also - maybe the kind that you can fold up small - because when open - they are not all that large
I'm telling you guys. If you bring an umbrella to the Roo I promise you that you will lift off and end up on the other side of the rainbow. Probably somewhere in Louisiana.

Hmm. I had no idea they officially don't allow umbrellas into Centeroo. I brought a big giant golf umbrella in every day last year (and would have died without it - all the tree shade was taken 'cause there was no rain relief from the heat) and the gatekeepers never even mentioned it. Hm. Maybe because I was using it as a walking stick until we got to a spot to set up at for a show.

This will be my first Roo. Do people ever set up those big beach umbrellas at their camps? Or is the ground too hard. I was thinking one might be nice over chairs outside the tent.

^ The campsites are so enormous, it's hard to predict how the ground will be. For the first two years we camped on soft, grassy land. Setting up a giant unbrella would've been no problem! Last year we ended up camping on the hardest, rock-laden ground you can imagine! I couldn't even hammer our tent-stakes in! They just snapped in half! Unless you go "tent-only", it's a total crap-shoot!
