Last year cigs were eight bucks a pack, so I was thinkin about buying a couple cartons and selling packs for 5 bucks to make some extra cash, anyone think that's a bad idea?

Im not really sure how much cigarettes are in TN, but I know generally down south they are pretty cheap. Never been to 'Roo before, but usually every vendor is selling cigarettes (and i've never seen it at $8/pack). I was actually thinking of the same thing, though. There will definately be a market, though im not sure how expensive you will be able to sell them because im sure plenty of people have had the same idea. You can buy them online for less than $2/pack though, which is cool
Right on, thanks guys. Yeah cigs are really cheap down south, it's just on festival grounds they're 8 bucks. I'm so retarded, I shouldn't have posted this under the music, it'll get moved eventually I guess
5 bucks a pack is normal festy non-official vendor prices. 8 bucks is a ripoff unless you are in NYC. you will definitely be able to sell some.
you can buy cheap smokes online, but if you smoke Marlboro (and im sure its the same for the other brands), you get tobacco that was grown in Honduras. the package says marlboro, but the cigs are a tad longer and taste nothing like real marlboros that were grown and sprayed in the good ol' US of A.
i bought myslef one of those trick packs last year, and now i always peep the side for the "grown in honduras" label before i get fooled again. but im sure not too many people are hip to this, so gouge away.
if i was going to sell smokes at the roo, i would just buy a carton for like 20-25 bucks as soon as i entered the Breadbasket of America. you can still double your money.
I had that idea too, but was having so much fun, and all other smokers had the same idea too, so I ended up with 6 packs as my only souvineir, but of course they were smoked eventually, and at 22 a carton, it was nothing compared to 5 bux a pack here in dc.
i actually had the idea to sell cigarettes in the dorms at school last semester because they sold them for $4.50 a pack in the store downstairs and only had 3 kinds
who thinks native american spirit will be giving out packs again this year?
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
even if you sold them for 3 bucks a pack, you'd still be making bank.
best part about NC is it's ridiculously cheap tobacco prices.. horray for our cash crop!
I think I'm going to be doing the same, for gas money.
EDIT: I bought about 6 cartons for Coventry here in NC and took them with me up to Vermont... I was selling them for 3 bucks and people were clamouring for them... when regular prices are 6+ dollars, you can make a killing..

Thanks dmbfanintn for linking to this thread, I should of searched for it instead of starting a new thread.
Okay my question is would people be more inclined to buy hand rolled ciggs than packs of ciggs? Just curious because I was thinking of making a bunch to sell while walking around mingling with folks.

okay i kinda already replied to you on this, haha, but i will again
i don't really smoke ciggs but i would 100% be more inclined to buy hand rolled cigs (especially if they're american spirit); mostly cuz its all natural. honestly if i see soemone selling hand rolled cigs i'll prlly end up buying them
^^^ ya know - when I got home from 'roo last year after smoking all the free American Spirits - I was hacking and couging up stuff that was really nasty - now I am not saying that it was the American Spirits (it may have just been the 'roo dust) but I really think there was a connection

I would be a little weirded out buying a handrolled cig from some guy I didn't know, it's like getting unwrapped candy on halloween, it's probably alright, but not worth the risk. Not that I wouldn't like an "added bonus" in my cig, i just like to know what it is.

Selling cigarettes is pretty common at the Roo. I remember walking to and from centeroo, passing that boardwalk, and there were probably over 10 people along the way trying to get rid of some packs. Their sales pitche were pretty good too. One dude was trying to get rid of some packs and kept yelling "Get your cigarettes, cancer is only a state of mind" It was pretty funny.

I'm more worried about some weird guy with big pupils coming up to me on shakedown and rubbing a mysterious liquid on my face. I agree though. With all the sh*t that goes around that festival I really wouldn't want to light up a smoke to relax and realize 20 mins later that I'm dusted or some sh*t.
I've actually been meaning to start up a list of things to sell at Roo. It becomes a win/win situation when people sell things on the campgrounds. They're always cheaper than the vendors, and there's tons of people who are both short on cash and love grilled cheese. Most times it adds to the community vibe unless some people start price gouging. Anybody want to lend me a hand and come up with some reasonable pricing?
Cigs- Marlboro, Newport, Camel Lights Grilled Cheese Hamburgers Hot Dogs Quesadillas Water Cheap Glass (I can pretty much get it at cost from my friends shop) Papers/Wraps- Suggestions here would be nice. I've never been picky. Toilet Paper?
Any other suggestions are very welcome. I'm trying not to go too overboard, just essentials that can become very costly at the festival. We're going to be taking an RV this time around, but we'll be there asap to set up something in tent only close to shakedown and the arch.
If all goes as planned, I'll try to make it somewhat identifiable so inforooers can come by and get things at cost, and of course the occasional free hot dog/hamburger/bottle of water.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

Oh, there would be nothing but true tobacco (except maybe some mullen in them to help with the lungs) and also I would be using a rolling machine so that minimal handling of the ciggs. I just figured it would be fun to make a bit of money walking around and it would be good trade bait. That would not be cool to be selling people fake stuff to people, because I would pissed off if someone did that to me. But that is one of the things to look out for at festival though, buying shady products from people.

If there is going to be an "official" inforoo flag design. Maybe we could find somewhere that prints flags and those who are interested in flying the inforoo colors at their campsite or unofficial vending site, would show all the roosters where some friendly territory is.
Maybe the T-shirt design?
I won't be selling cigs, but I would be willing to give the family discount to 'roosters who want to buy my jewelry.
